Two British citizens were found guilty on Thursday of having sex in public and were sentenced to three months in prison to be followed by deportation. Under the laws of the United Arab Emirates, of which Dubai is a part, the maximum sentence for sex outside of marriage is a year in prison and the minimum is three months. “The verdict shows that the judge was convinced that they did not have sexual intercourse, but he punished them for the indecent act of kissing,” Mr. Matar said. Dubai is a popular destination for European tourists, but it also adheres to some strict Islamic rules, among them a ban on sex out of wedlock.

Truly stupid! I mean it was the UAE, not France or San Francisco! When I was in Buddhist Thailand, even I knew not to wear sleeveless clothing and expose my knees! When you’re going to to a plavce like Dubai, a little common sense and understanding of the culture would be wise. Three months in prison. Well, in the UAE, it’s not surprising. Lesson learned: When in the Middle East, please keep your pants on in public, no matter how horny you are.

Oh wow, you lived in Thailand! I actually only visited once, but have friends who live there, and I hope to visit again. I love Thai food, too. I’m lucky here in San Francisco, that we have some of the best Thai food outside of Thailand. I can’t live without roast duck and tom yum soup!
I lived in Thailand but spent most of my time across the Mekong in Laos. Similar food and language. My foods are fried rice, laab, and the fiery chicken and thai basil. Where I live I am the best thai food..lol
