Tax Calculator–Check For yourself

Taxes have emerged as an issue in the 2008 presidential race, with John McCain charging Barack Obama with planning to raise taxes, despite the Obama campaign’s pledge to reduce taxes for 95 percent of working families.

To help clarify the differences in the tax proposals of the two candidates, the Obama campaign this week launched an easy-to-use online tax calculator to help voters learn what they will save on their taxes under the Obama plan as opposed to McCain.

One Last Shot!

The whole guilty by association has seem to die, at least for now and the ratcheting up the veteran, hero, war thingy has caught fire again.  I am sorry sports fans but the McCain campaign is running around looking for a hook that will help them in the polls.  So far they have come up with zero!

But I had to take one last shot….sorry……it is a weakness.

Barack Obama‘s campaign is citing the University of South Carolina’s speaking invitations to William Ayers and Republican Gov. Mark Sanford’s role as school trustee to counter Sarah Palin‘s efforts to link the presidential candidate to the 1960s radical. In an e-mail to reporters, the Obama campaign said Mr. Ayers is a “distinguished scholar” at the University of South Carolina, where Mr. Sanford serves as the ex-officio trustee while governor. “By Governor Palin’s standards, that means Governor Sanford shares Ayers’ views,” the e-mail read. Mr. Sanford rejected the argument. A university spokesman said Mr. Ayers has spoken six times over the last 13 years at the university’s Museum of Education but has “no ongoing connection or relationship with the university.”

One more time……

Todd Palin continued an official membership in the Alaska Independence Party until 2002, more than 30 years after the Weather Underground went out of existence and Barack Obama was a child. When Todd Palin was a member the Alaska Independence Party, Sarah Palin was the mother of his children. Sarah Palin, as Alaska’s governor, told the Alaska Independence Party to “keep up the good work” as they were about to nominate conspiracy buff Charles Baldwin for president.

The Alaska Independence Party has a history which it has not repudiated and a commitment to policies that would be considered “anti-American” across the political spectrum, policies that have produced separatist wars in many parts of the world. Americans deserve to know if Sarah Palin still agrees with that party’s views, and even if she wants to be an American rather than an Alaskan citzen.

I am still amazed that the MSM has not even tried to be balanced in this war of words.  Only bloggers seem to have the cajones to take on the oddity known as Palin and the self-described hero, McCain.

Please, A Little Sanity

Goddammit!  It is way past time for this shit to cease!  American needs a statesman and all we have are scum sucking , bottom feeding, worthless fucking politicians.  One who claims to be a” maverick” and uses the same tactics as any other politician.  That is NOT a maverick.  Then we have a candidate that is the “change we need” and is doing nothing different than any other worthless parasite that is trying to reach the pinnacle of ego, the presidency.

Guilty by association?  This is just fucking stupid and pathetic!  Guys stop looking into the rear view mirror–stop letting consultants call the shots and please–please talk about the two crisis we have in this country.  We have two fucking wars and an economy circling the crapper–going down maybe for good.  Is that not more goddamn important than who knew who and when?  Pull your fucking head out of your worthless asses and get to doing the people’s work.

The American people deserve better than this.  They have suffered since the beginning of the country from shit eating pigs that want to run the country.  The current crop of candidates is doing nothing that suggest they will be anything different, so their claims of “change” are just that….claims nothing in their actions illustrate that there is any change in the words.  “Win at any cost” is the only words that we can depend on.

There is a wino in my neighborhood that I would vote for before any of these two would get it.  At least I know the wino would drink up my money, these guys are not that fucking reliable.  Tit for tat campaign ads is just silly.  But beyond that the absurd part is it works.  The American people will believe that because you know some asshole that did some detestable thing in the past, that it somehow makes you just as guilty of the crime.

All we should be asking from these dipshits is some sanity.  Is it too fucking much to ask that the concerns and desires of the American people be addressed and you assholes leave the petty horseshit in the crapper where it belongs? There is too much at stake for the American people to continue this line of attack.

I do not care if some  broad wears lipstick or is from po-dunk or if a candidate voice sounds like a cat being butt fucked by a skunk or his/her color or what mode of transportation they use to get to work…none of that matters!  What matters is which of the pricks will do the best job for the people of the United States.

Please–a little sanity and just shut the FUCK up!

McCain On Energy Policy

Let’s change the tone of the posts for awhile.  The Economy has had enough coverage for now.  Presidential candidate McCain has been going around talking about changes in the energy policies if he is elected.  Let’s look at his track record.

During the presidential debate, Sept. 26, John McCain claimed, “I voted for alternate fuel all my time… No one can be opposed to alternate energy, no one.” But John McCain’s own record suggests he may be confused about how he has voted, not just once or twice, but 23 times against renewable energy.

In 1992, McCain voted against ending debate on the Energy Bill, which included provisions to encourage energy conservation and increase domestic energy production. (In other words, McCain supported an attempt to filibuster that bill along partisan lines.)

A few years later in 1999, McCain used Senate procedures to oppose an amendment that would have increased funding for energy supply and research and development activities for renewable energy sources.

In May 2001, McCain voted with George W. Bush against establishing tax credits for investments in renewable energy technologies, incentives for new energy efficient residential construction, and tax deductions for increased energy efficiency in commercial buildings.

The following year, McCain voted again with George W. Bush against an amendment to require utilities to generate 10 percent of electricity from renewable energy facilities by 2020. In that same energy package on a different measure, McCain voted for an amendment that would allow retail electric suppliers to avoid strong federal renewable energy standards. In addition to these actions, McCain voted to allow states to waive federal standards on renewable electricity use.

That same year, along party lines and in line with George W. Bush’s policies, McCain opposed a measure that would overhaul the nation’s energy policies, restructure the electricity system and provide for $14.1 billion in energy-related tax incentives – in the wake of the Enron scandal. As part of that bill, McCain’s opposition included a rejection of funding for ethanol production.

In June 2003, McCain voted a number of times against expanding the use of ethanol and other renewable energy as an alternative to gasoline. McCain even voted against a measure to eliminate the use of the carcinogenic pollutant methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and to apply tougher standards on air pollution. Again, on these matters, John McCain voted along partisan lines and in sync with George W. Bush’s position.
In 2004, McCain voted against a measure that would require that gasoline sold in or introduced into the US contain renewable fuel. He voted twice the following year to continue to allow the use of MTBE and against higher standards on air pollution caused by burning gasoline.
Again in 2005, when McCain had the chance to prove that he supported “alternate energy,” he failed to do so when he voted to slash the popular and successful Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency program for farmers, cutting it from its current $23 million to only $3 million.

And in 2006, when it became clear that George W. Bush and the Republicans were on the losing side of the public debate on alternative energy investments, McCain still voted with his president and party against investments in renewable energy research and development in cellulosic ethanol, wind, solar, geothermal, and hydropower energy sources.

Yes Irene, he is pandering his ass off for votes…….what makes one think he has had a change in thinking?

Is McCain Playing Political Theater?

Of course he is–that is his style–when his message loses its luster, he moves on to something else–the substance is weak and pathetic.

John McCain’s decision to suspend his campaign and return to Washington was little more than stagecraft, a political stunt to garner photo opportunities and to distract voters from his sinking campaign, congressional leaders suggested this evening, Sept. 25th.

From the time he announced his decision to suspend his campaign in New York, McCain stayed the night in the Big Apple in order to conduct a few interviews with friendly media, according to various media sources. So much for a national emergency requiring immediate action, some commentators suggested.

In fact, McCain arrived in Washington just as the first announcements of a deal between Congress and the White House were being made, somewhere close to 24 hours after McCain’s declaration of the emergency.
Aside from failing to abide by his own announcement of suspension, McCain appears to have done very little while on Capitol Hill. Congressional Democrats seem to feel that John McCain’s role in the bailout negotiations has been a hindrance. Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), who chairs the Senate Banking Committee, told CBS news that he thinks the late afternoon White House summit “was more of a political stunt for McCain.” Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters that at the meaning with the president, McCain had little to say and when he did speak he “said nothing substantive.
While a deal between Congress and the White House on the bailout plan appeared to be struck in the early afternoon, political insiders are now suggesting that McCain’s late arrival delayed the deal in order for him to float an alternative plan that offered nothing of substance except more tax breaks for corporations and less independent regulatory oversight. McCain’s alternative plan suggested little deviance from George W. Bush’s usual economic policies.

Once again McCain is just a continuation of the present policies.  He learned nothing from the S&L meltdown back in the day.

Palin Gets To Meet Karzai

Why?  Wait!  Was not Obama chastised for this type of thing?

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin will meet next week with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in New York, on the sidelines of the opening of the U.N. General Assembly, according to Afghan officials in Washington.

The meeting is part of a broader effort to demonstrate the Alaska governor’s ability to handle foreign policy issues, at a time when she has come under fire for a lack of experience on the international stage. The opportunity to speak before the United Nations annually draws the world’s leaders to Manhattan, and the GOP presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), plans to use the occasion to introduce Palin to those officials, McCain aides have said.

“It’s a great opportunity for Governor Palin to meet and interact with some of the world leaders she will deal with as vice president,” said one McCain adviser, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because her U.N. schedule had not been made public. “She’ll talk about the issues facing the world.”

Palin will meet with Karzai, and possibly other foreign leaders, during a midweek campaign swing through New York.

One in effectual politician talking to another……..that is politics, Irene.

New Trend To Bar Voters

Democrats and Republicans battled in the media and the courts Tuesday over hotly disputed claims that the GOP could use lists of foreclosed homes to bar voters from the polls in November.

The fight — started by an online publication that reported Macomb County’s GOP chief had discussed such a plan — is just the latest in a decadeslong battle between Democrats, who accuse Republicans of trying to suppress Democratic votes, and Republicans, who accuse their opponents of vote fraud.

The issue arose last week, when the online Michigan Messenger quoted James Carabelli, the Macomb County GOP chairman, as saying, “We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren’t voting from those addresses.” Carabelli denies making the statement, and says the county party has never had such a plan.

State officials, and Democrats, said it’s not clear any such plan could legally challenge voters’ right to cast a ballot. Even if voters have been foreclosed, state law allows a grace period of 30 days after moving to vote in their old jurisdiction, or 60 days if they move within the same city or township.

In their lawsuit, the Obama campaign and the DNC sought to tie the allegation to Republican practices dating to the 1980s. Bauer compared the idea to the practice of “caging,” the subject of legal battles as recently as 2004, when Republicans challenged 35,000 Ohio voter registrations after voters at registered addresses failed to return postcards mailed by the GOP.

All Seriousness Aside

What is going on here? The candidates are swimming in the shallow end of the political crapper. They are throwing these shallow little innuendo’s at each other and the country and the economy is beginning to crash and burn. Someone, anyone, please step up and grasp the reality of the situation that Americans are facing.

It is all so damn silly that these men are hurling insults and lies at each and their running mates. The American people deserve better than that, especially in this election. Ma and Pa are losing their store, Joe and Jane are losing their home, Pete and Paula have lost their jobs and the media and candidates are focusing in on some damn stupid add that says one candidate wants to teach sex in kindergarten. To begin with the bill in question did nor pass and no where did it call for teaching comprehensive sex to kindergarten. These idiots keep talking about intangible things like patriotism, hero-worship, change, please talk the voter how their life will truly improve if they are elected. Patriotism does not feed hungry children, hero worship will not save the house and lies will not stop the jobless rate from rising.

Time to put aside childish little games, stop being shallow little brats and move to the serious side of reality.

Hero By Any Other Name

We have all seen the dramatic pics of McCain returning from North Vietnam…you know…the one of him being carried on a stretcher. But…………….

Previously unseen footage emerged Thursday showing Republican presidential candidate John McCain as a proud, stoic prisoner of war in Hanoi on the day his Vietnamese captors released him to the U.S. military.

A former reporter from Swedish broadcaster SVT, 71-year-old Erik Eriksson, told The Associated Press he found the video in the network’s archives while researching a book he was writing about his experiences as a Vietnam War correspondent.

The footage was filmed by a North Vietnamese photographer with whom Eriksson had contracted to film the release of U.S. prisoners of war.

AP Television News acquired exclusive worldwide distribution rights to the SVT footage from March 14, 1973, and edited it into a 2-minute, 14-second video of a remarkable day in the life of the Republican candidate. SVT posted a 39-second clip on its Web site.

The AP footage begins with prisoners being led out of a Hanoi compound one by one, then climbing onto buses taking them to the handover area. Each prisoner is dressed in identical blue-gray, long-sleeved shirts and dark pants, and carries a beige jacket. Up to 16 U.S. POWs are seen.

McCain grimaces as he steps off a bus with other prisoners. He has a pronounced limp and needs to put both feet on the same step before continuing but is not using crutches.

The prisoners stand in rows until a Vietnamese official calls their name. McCain, like other prisoners, briskly walks up to salute and shake hands with U.S. military officers. Although only 37, he has prematurely white hair. Then the prisoners are seen walking to a U.S. plane.

Now with this story, it will be interesting to see just which media outlet picks it up. If I had to guess I would say none want to piddle on McCain’s heroship. For some reason, he is safe from scrutiny, especially the military aspects of his claims. Other candidates are not so lucky, but I have a feeling that McCain will be safe from any scrutiny.

Mississippi’s Dirty Little Election Trick

Mississippi’s governor, Haley Barbour, and its secretary of state have come up with a particularly cynical dirty trick for the November election. Let’s call it: “Where’s the Senate race?”

Defying state law, they have decided to hide a hard-fought race for the United States Senate at the bottom of the ballot, where they clearly are hoping some voters will overlook it. Their proposed design is not only illegal. It shows a deep contempt for Mississippi’s voters.

Mississippi election law clearly states that federal elections must go at the top of ballots. And the secretary of state, Delbert Hosemann, plans to list the state’s other Senate race — incumbent Thad Cochran is running far ahead of his Democratic challenger, Erik Fleming — where it belongs, right below the presidential contest.

Some voters, including the elderly, the least educated and first-time voters, have more trouble than others navigating complicated ballots. Many of these voters are more likely to vote for Democrats than Republicans. And, yes, Governor Barbour and Mr. Hosemann are both Republicans.

A local election official is suing to put the Wicker-Musgrove race back where it belongs. The state court judge who is hearing the case on Thursday should order that the Senate race be placed at the top of the ballot. Even if she does the right thing, we fear, that will not end the matter.

If the state courts do not provide relief, supporters of fair elections should take the case to federal court. They will need to move quickly since time to prepare ballots is fast running out. Mississippi’s voters have a right to a ballot that conforms with the law — and that is not designed to win a Senate seat by trickery.

All is fair in love and politics.  The Repub establishment is running scared in this elkection and is resorting to every tactic possible to beat the Dem candidate for US Senator.
