Fat Is As Fat Does

The debate rages on and on…..many of the liberal elite see the worse problem in America is obesity….and their half hearted attempts to change the tide are amusing at best and flipping naive at worse….but now they have found a new champion…..Mayor Bloomberg of NYC…..

Sugar-sweetened beverages are “the largest single contributor to the obesity epidemic,” Governor David Paterson and Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a joint statement in advance of a City Hall news briefing today. Obesity is almost twice as prevalent among the city’s poorest households compared to the wealthiest, they said.

The state’s office for disability assistance intends to ask the USDA to exclude the drinks from the list of items that can be purchased with food stamps, a welfare program that started in 1964, the statement said. The department oversees the benefit.

Obesity-related illness costs New York State residents almost $8 billion annually, or $770 for each household, according to city and state health officials. Overweight or obese adults comprise 57 percent of the city’s population, they said.

Almost half, or 46 percent, of the 22,300 people hospitalized for obesity-related diabetes each year live in low- income neighborhoods, the statement said.Almost 40 percent of New York City’s public school students in kindergarten through 8th grade are overweight or obese, including 46 percent of Hispanic students and 40 percent of black students, according to the statement. A child who consumes one sugary drink a day has a 60 percent higher risk of becoming obese than those who don’t.

All of this is well intended but look at the figures…Hispanics and Blacks are the heaviest and have the most problems and the answer to this is to all but tax them into submission….the groups mentioned are the families living in poverty….and the answer is to lessen the amount of sustenance that their benefits provide….find a solution to poverty and your obesity problems will also be solved….just a thought…..

This is a typical American response to a problem…..do NOTHING to solve the problem…and what is that problem?  ……you want to truly solve the problem then address the cause…..POVERTY!  All this type of reform does is give the idle rich a warm and fuzzy feeling that they are championing an issue……

It is easy to sit at your desk making plenty to give your family everything and have the spare time to go out an run to Albany….but real people do not have that luxury…penalizing poor people will NOT solve the problem…..only smooth the feathers ruffled by those who have NO idea……..the idea in NYC penalizes the poor, as I have said, they want to avoid taxing this stuff for it will effect those who can afford it….and that is NEVER the idea.

Here is an idea for those liberal airheads…..solve the problem and stop patting yourselves on the back for sticking it to the poor….so far all your well intended ideas are crap…..try again, but this time look at it from a real perspective, the perspective of making barely afford to live on and then have to feed a family,  if you can from the Hamptons…….

The Shame Of It!

I was not going to wade into this whole mosque thing after my initial post, but as usual thing s have changed…..this weekend there was a massive protest, both pro and con, on the building of the mosque at “ground zero”….first of all, it is two blocks away from the sacred ground….but that is not what I am talking about……

Then what?

The HATE!  I watched the reports on the protest most of the weekend and saw such hate that it scares me….I mean several people were verbally assaulted not because they were Muslims, but rather because they looked like a Muslim (whatever that means)….the hate was everywhere…Americans are NOT Islam-phobic that HATE Islam, at least the mental midgets at the protests.

To my conserv friends…please disavow these dickheads…..this whole hate thing is going to be an embarrassment to the country and to the conserv movement….once again the Conservs have allowed the hate merchants on the ultra-right to do all they can to define conservatism….ande the sad part is you are allowing it by your silence.

Originally, I was for the mosque on constitutional grounds but thought more consideration and sensitivity should be found concerning its construction….but now I say screw build it…if America is going to stand for anything it has got to be religious tolerance and the right of private property…….so screw the hate merchants….build your community center!

A last note on the subject….I am beginning to think that the fanatical white power boyz have successfully and covertly enter into the frays…..these protests and the Tea Party, at least the hateful side of that movement….it looks like they are getting that foothold they have so long desired and emotional exceptionalism is aiding their infiltration………..

Pay attention or you may well live to REGRET it!

Mosque Of A Different Color

Just thought I would let my readers know that this post was inspired by a comment to Quin at Quintessential Havoc (GO!  Blogroll will take you to his site…thoughtful and insightful) about the religious and political theater developing over the mosque in NYC.

In case you were wondering….a VOMITORIUM is where people go to pass on political regurgitation…..and this subject is all about such an occurrence…..

Second, I am by NO means condoning nor condemning the idea of a Islamic Center near Ground Zero…..what I will speak about is the whole affair through the lens of the US Constitution…..

Holy Crap!  Did you hear what the President had to say about the building of the center near ground zero?

“As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country,” Mr. Obama told an intently listening crowd gathered at the White House Friday evening to observe the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

“That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances,” he said. “This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable.”

And after he said that…the firestorm of the fanatical Right began firing the shots at what the Prez had to say….it was going to be inevitable…..

Gingrich, a Republican and former House speaker, also condemned the president’s comments.

“There is nothing surprising in the president’s continued pandering to radical Islam,” Gingrich said. “What he said last night is untrue and inaccurate. The fact is this is not about religious liberty.”

Gingrich said that the proposed mosque and community center would be a symbol of Muslim “triumphalism” and that building it near the site of the Sept. 11 attacks “would be like putting a Nazi sign next to the Holocaust museum.”

This is just pure political bullsh*t….you Know it…they know it!
This is NOT an issue that needs to be spent time on….people are starving, losing homes, unemployed and totally screwed and these dipshits want to fight on and on for something emotional…….
It is simple…..the 1st amendment of the Constitution….may I say to the creeps on the Right….if you cannot live with the laws that are given in the Constitution then scrap it and start over!  You cannot pick and choose what parts of the document you want to live by or defend….it is either ALL OR NOTHING.  And if you are not capable of doing either one….then shut the Hell up!

New York Moves Into The Gay Marriage Fray

Gov. David A. Paterson plans to introduce legislation on Thursday to make marriage between same-sex couples legal in New York, advancing his push for greater rights for gay men and lesbians, at a time when other states have done so.

But it is also something of a political gamble, because the legislation faces an uphill climb in the State Senate. Democrats acknowledge that they do not have enough votes there to get the measure approved, meaning that its chances could rest in the hands of a few Republicans.

The governor also risks alienating socially conservative voters at a time when he can least afford to drive away any more support.

Some same-sex-marriage supporters said they hoped that by introducing the measure now, when it is likely to receive plenty of attention after the Iowa Supreme Court’s decision this month overturning a ban on same-sex marriage and the Vermont Legislature’s vote last week to override a veto of a bill allowing gay couples to marry, the governor would create momentum for the bill.

Paterson is facing an uphill battle if he wants to be re-elected as governor……this is just looking for support wherever he can find it……but beyond the game…..it is a promising sign, but as written, a very very long shot in the state legislature.

Sweet Caroline

Was it James Taylor?  Nope!  It was Caroline Kennedy.  After almost a month of trashing and bashing Kennedy for wanting to be the senator from the state of New York, she has withdrawn her name from consideration.

Kennedy made the announcement in a terse statement released early Thursday, ending hours of uncertainty surrounding her intentions as she appeared to waver in her decision to seek the office.

“I informed Governor Paterson today that for personal reasons I am withdrawing my name from consideration for the United States Senate,” she said in the one-sentence statement.

Now all the media is a buzz trying to find out why she is stepping down.  Why?  Just a week ago she was painted as inexperienced or an elitist or prolonging a political dynasty and now they are concern about her motives.  They got what they wanted!  She is not gonna be in the senator’s seat in Washington.  Why is it important that they know why now?

What a pathetic pack of dipshits!  She is out now move the f*ck on!

Bloomberg Gets Challenged

A new law that allows New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to seek a third term to help the city deal with the global economic crisis is an illegal “end run” around New York voters, a lawsuit filed on Monday says.

Last week, Bloomberg signed a law increasing the term limit for elected officials to three four-year terms from two. The law runs counter to two public referendums, held in 1993 and 1996, that imposed the two-term limit.

Bloomberg, a former Wall Street trader and self-made billionaire who was elected mayor in 2001 and again in 2005, has said his financial experience would be invaluable when the city is bracing for lean times.

But in a civil rights lawsuit filed in federal court in Brooklyn, a group of elected officials and voters said that the term limits law denied voters “meaningful participation in the political process” because it overturns the two referendums by a legislative act, rather than by putting it to a public vote.

The law effectively discourages New Yorkers from voting and from participating in future voter referendums because voters can no longer be certain that their votes will count, said Norman Siegel, one of the lawyers, told reporters.

The lawsuit names Bloomberg, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, the city Board of Elections and the board’s president, James Sampel. It seeks an injunction to stop the law from taking effect.

I believe that the law that states that a mayor could only serve two terms was voted on by the people, if so, then they should be the ones to overturn the law.  Not in some backroom filled with fat cats wanting to be in control, or shopuld I say want to remain in control?

Sex, Lies And Politics!

Yet another politician is caught with his joint in a bad place.  Spetzer or Spitzer, who know who cares, got caught by FBI dealing with a $4300 hooker.  Thinking….what was he thinking!  oh, never mind, he was not thinking.  A thumper makes one stupid and the Gov, got stupid.

we have had all sorts of politicians doing things that they are suppose to be fighting.  Vetter, Craig, McGrevey, on and on….but does it matter?  well, yes it does, not the fact that he is dealing with a hooker but whose money was he spending.  If it was mine then I would say to him to go to the street and find a cheaper pass time.

Politics makes strange bedfellows, but this is just ridiculous.  May I suggest that Rosy Palm and her 5 sisters would have been a more prudent decision.  This guy is an idiot, we can do without these types.

May I offer a suggestion?  I realize that when the blood rushes from big head to little head, it is difficult to think, but you must try to be more logical.  But that will fall on deaf ears for politicians think that they are immune.  well buck-o, think again!
