I recall from the first Gulf War when CNN was the bomb on reporting the actions and the results…..they were the leader in 24 hour news…….what the Hell happened?

I remember the good old days when the only game in town, if you were a news junkie, was CNN….I watched the 1st Gulf War from first bomb to last.
I recent years CNN has fallen on hard times—-since the early days….when it was a novel idea to have a 24 hour news network….and now everybody has a 24 hour network giving all the news that would make a sane person sick. A couple of years ago CNN decided it would be a good idea to make Anderson Cooper the face of the network….and the network ratings continue to plummet like a lead balloon. The idea of having one person to represent the whole enchilada has proven to be not such a good idea.
This moronic act has given MSNBC an idea…….

While he won’t have his own show right away, the network plans to have him “work across the whole lineup” and “build his TV news credentials,” a source says. The ultimate plan? He’ll be the “face of the network,” as Anderson Cooper is for CNN.
I do not understand why they would want to do this……plus bring in some unknown entity to make the case……I mean they already have a bevvy of on-air news guys to do this….there is Ari Melber, Steve Kornecki, Chris Hayes among others……let’s not forget the lengendary host Tim Russert’s son, Luke……..
And why a dude to be the face of the network……what is wrong with a women…they have access to some great female on-air personalities…..Karen Finney, Abby Huntsman, Krystal Ball and there are others…….
If you gonna bet on one person as the face of the network…..why not make it a female afdter all they are more than capable of doing the job and in most cases more qualified.
I think this is a stupid move….the network has a good record and changing and becoming a copycat will not be any more rating getting than showing Pussy Riot videos.
I have been playing this politics game for 40 years or so…..one of my happiest days besides the PhD was when there was a 24 hour news channel…..think about it…24 hours! If you do not remember those days then there is NO way I can explain it other than it was a godsend for people like me that had to know everything at all times……..
One of my favorite programs on the new news channel, CNN, was Crossfire….that was when 2 conservs and 2 libs debated the issue of the day for 60 minutes……I recall one of the conservs was Buchanan until he ran for prez and had to step down,,,,,,and I be damn if I can recall any other others on the show….the show was in prime time and a great source of aggravation for me….you see there was a conserv point of view but the so called Left point was not….at best it was centrists and boring…..I spend many stamps writing to CNN to change the format and hire some truly Leftists….to no avail…
Okay, A side trip……I am not real found of many conservs but I do like SE Cupp…..being a red head fe4male helps a lot….but besides that she seems to possess an intellect beyond the normal stupid of the Right…

“Crossfire’s” possible return in April. The program aired from 1982-2005, and became one of CNN’s most prominent shows, airing more than once a day and on the weekend. Pat Buchanan and Tom Braden were the original hosts of the program. At the time of its cancellation, Tucker Carlson and Paul Begala, who is still with CNN, hosted the show.
I seems that CNN with its sagging ratings is resurrecting Crossfire for one more spin around the political yard…….this time around the libs will be Van Johnson and Stephanie Cutter…..and the conservs will be SE Cupp and Newt…..
I hate to see Cupp leave MSNBC’s The Cycle weekdays for Crossfire…..money must be good and she probably got a good contract……..
The problem as I see it…….sagging ratings prompted this…..but they will no longer be a unique programming…..for you see just about every reputable media outlet has a similar show….I said reputable….and that leaves out FOX….I do not see this as a boon for CNN…sorry to say that this will more than likely be a bomb kinda like the Erin Burnett Show which did little to boost ratings for the sliding network……

I was not going to dignify this debate with a post….but many friends and relatives have been asking me what I thought of it…..so instead to repeating myself I did this post from the notes I had made…..(BTW one of my acquaintances is a TPer)……
CNN/Tea Party Express held a get together to discuss the issues of the day and how they would approach solutions to those problems….the usual suspects were there….Romney, Perry, Bachmann, Santorum, Paul, Huntsman, Newt and Cain…all were in attendence…..
First, it was a pile on of Perry since he is the so-called frontrunner…he and Romney dueled awhile, Huntsman dueled with the two of them, Bachmann just looked like a hater….Paul is just old….Santorum…well he is Santorum…..Newt a snooze and then there was Cain….what can I say about Cain? NO really what can I say about Cain?
The night was full of the evils of Social Security……the demon Obamacare……regulations and the ever present Tax cuts…..the only good thing was that Romney looked presidential and Perry had nothing but tag lines that could be quoted by the mindless…..and since the audience was an indication of the Tea Party…it showeed that these people have NO idea what reality is….and are only capable of applauding shit that makes NO sense to a rational person…..
And then there is CNN…….in their desperate attempt to find viewers they allowed the Tea Party to use them for a circus of garbage….they should be ashamed of their performance and Wolf Blitzer needs to take a couple of Valium and go away……if this was their attempt at relevancy…..THEY FAILED!
Now, Americans want a loser and a winner…..the winner…(may I have a drum roll please)……..was anyone who watched “Spongepants Squareboobs” or Law and Order (it is on continuously for 24 hrs a day)…….the big loser was…….(another drum roll)…….the rational American voter!
There are some that see a conspiracy at every turn….fortunately I am not one of those pea brains….but there are some situations that beg to be defined as a conspiracy…….and this time it appears, at least to me, that there maybe a conspiracy developing…..The Tour du Palin…..The book tour…..the “Going Rogue” Express…..the continuing saga of one Sarah Palin…..
Then what would the conspiracy be? The Mainstream Media has its reporters on the book signing route for “Going Rogue”……My question is……why are the networks devoting so much time and resource in covering a book signing? It cannot be that it is subjective policy book…in fact there is little to no policy in the book, just opposition to everything Obama…..then why is it so damn important?
NBC has a well respected journalist, Andrea Mitchell, covering the first stop of the signing express……this is reporter that can get an interview from just about anyone in politics and yet she is covering some mindless book tour….and reporting that the Palin crowds are some sort of a phenom……crap they have gotten some local color to do that sort of thing…..but what do I know?
Okay Professor what is up? Appears, at least to me, that the MSM is trying to install Palin as the face of the GOP….they are assisting Palin in keeping her face in the news…..she, Palin, has NO substance and has NO policy sense whatever….no where does she deserve the coverage she is getting……and she does not deserve the free PR for her book…….that is unless the MSM is attempting to make her the “voice” of the GOP and in doing so helping liberals in their campaigns in the future……

That would be Lou Dobbs, former CNN anchor, in case there was a moment of doubt, recently announced his departure from CNN and the brand that he helped build, at least according to him.
I have heard a lot of rumbling about his departure in the last week or so…..everyone seems to have an opinion on what and why he left is employment.
The AP is reporting:
“Not at all,” he said in a weekend interview. “I don’t know if people will believe it, but we had a very amicable parting on the best of terms. I spent 29 years there building that company, and I wish everyone there nothing but the best, and they have reciprocated with me.”
It’s hard to know whether the abruptness or the lack of rancor surrounding the exit was more noteworthy. Dobbs’ outspokenness had made him a political target — so much so that there were parties celebrating the departure over the weekend — and an uncomfortable contradiction to what CNN says it wants to be.
Dobbs said he plans to take time deciding what he wants to do, beyond his daily radio show. He promised to reach out to groups who criticized him, most prominently because he advocated stern measures to halt illegal immigration. A petition campaign seeking his ouster took root in recent months after Dobbs gave attention on his show to questions about President Barack Obama’s place of birth.
So I guess that ends the story…it was all so amicable for both sides….right?

Apparently the parting of the ways between the Xenophobic host of Lou Dobbs Tonight and CNN was not so amicable after all. The New York Post is reporting today, citing an unnamed source, that Dobbs walked away with a $8 million severance package, after completing just half of his $12 million contract.
Since Klein and Dobbs have been enemies for awhile now….so it was a profitable move for both parties….Dobbs makes his cash and CNN rids itself of a xenophobe that breathes hate at every turn….maybe this will help CNN return to its place as a leader in cable news….(I doubt it, but it is a thought)….
When will the right wing whackos give this crap a rest? I mean rthere are people that state the most anal BS around and then there are those that pretend to be the voice of people that cannot help themselves.
When talking about whether Obama is a citizen or not he said in response to a right wing dipstick:

Instead, Dobbs chose the maximum complicity-minimum integrity route, or (D): “Certainly your view can’t be discounted,” the host said.
Hopefully CNN will do the right thing and put this a/hole on the carpet for being a moron. He is not doing the public a favor he is feeding the extreme right all for the ratings game.
Ron Paul was question on CNN about the bank bailouts and he had some interesting responses:
“If a gangster steals money and he’s successful, you don’t celebrate. Yeah they might be. This is just going to make the people angrier. They ripped us off, took all of this money, and now they’re making bundles? It’s just an unfair system to penalize average people, inflate the currency and bring on another crisis and undermine the whole system.
So I would say a bank’s success here and there is not necessarily something to celebrate. It’s still pretty early. I don’t think we’re out of the woods yet to celebrate banks’ successes. What we have to realize is a lot of people stashed away a lot of money and took care of their bonuses and what not. You’re not going to erase the anger that’s come from that just because the bank made a profit. Like I say, it might make things worse.”
Paul has his rabid supporters and maybe they should go after the leadership of the GOP….at least they have some pretty solid ideas, even if I do not agree wioth them, they are ideas. A lot more than the present leadership can say.
