Who Was Crispus Attucks?

February and time for African-Americans to be praised for their contributions to mankind…..personally, I think it should be all the time and not just a month a year…..but who am I to change things up?

Ever hear of the Boston Massacre?

Crispus Attucks became the first casualty of the American Revolution when he was shot and killed. Although Attucks was credited as the leader and instigator of the event, debate raged for over a century as to whether he was a hero and a patriot, or a rabble-rousing villain. The debate notwithstanding, Attucks, immortalized as “the first to defy, the first to die,” has been lauded as a true martyr, “the first to pour out his blood as a precious libation on the altar of a people’s rights.”

Attucks’ occupation made him particularly vulnerable to the presence of the British. As a seaman, he felt the ever-present danger of impressment into the British navy. As a laborer, he felt the competition from British troops, who often took part-time jobs during their off-duty hours and worked for lower wages. Historians definitely place Attucks in Boston in March of 1770. Assuming that the Boston Gazette advertisement did refer to him, he would have been about 47-years old.

A fight between Boston rope makers and three British soldiers on Friday, March 2, 1770 set the stage for a later confrontation. After dusk on Monday, March 5, 1770, a crowd of colonists confronted a sentry who had struck a boy for complaining that an officer was late in paying a barber bill. As anger escalated, a church bell rang, which drew people out of their homes. The British soldiers of the 29th Regiment of Foot were called to duty. In turn, townspeople responded by hurling snowballs and debris at the soldiers. A group of men led by Attucks approached the vicinity of the government building with clubs in hand. Violence soon erupted, and a soldier was struck with a thrown piece of wood. Some accounts named Attucks as the person responsible. Other witnesses stated that Attucks was “leaning upon a stick” when the soldiers opened fire.

Five Americans were killed and six were wounded in what came to be called the Boston Massacre. Attucks was the first one killed; he took two bullets in the chest. Rope maker Samuel Gray and sailor James Caldwell also died in the incident. Samuel Maverick, a 17-year-old joiner’s apprentice, died the next day. Irish leather worker Patrick Carr died nine days later. Attucks’ body was carried to Faneuil Hall, where it lay in state until Thursday, March 8, when he and the other victims were buried together.

He should be held up as a martyr and a leader of the revolution……his name should be the first name remembered about the Boston Massacre…..and not some footnote in obscurity…..

Has GOP Turned The Corner?

After poor Mitt took it in the butt…there was lots of finger pointing and condemnation when the GOP tried to explain their humiliating loss……about the only voting bloc they took hands down were old white guys…they lost the Hispanics, Blacks,  most women and the younger voters……and with that loss all the high mucky mucks decided that the GOP had to be a big tent party and that they would reach out to the very groups that they lost……….and here is their outreach program…..

They have made Marco Rubio the man to beat for the nomination…he has traveled extensively making his appearances and his new stances…he started this makeover in Iowa (go figure) and moved on to several “liberal” MSM sources….Meet The Press, CBS news, etc……his makeover is a present to the Hispanic community……

And now with the departure of Jim DeMint from the Senate we have the second part of the party makeover hovering on the sidelines…Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina will do her part to make over the party by nominating Rep. Tim Scott as DeMint’s replacement the second part of the new p[arty will be in place….now the Afro-American community will have a single senator to look up to……….. and the party danced……

Let’s look at Rep. Scott….

(Newser) – South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has chosen GOP Rep. Tim Scott to take over Jim DeMint’s Senate seat, CNN reports by way of GOP sources. She’s set to make the announcement today at noon. Scott will be the state’s first black senator since the late 1800s, the New York Times notes. Says a fellow rep from the state, “There is not a kinder, more humble, sweet-spirited person … That is somewhat antithetical to what you’d expect at this level of politics.”

It would be another auspicious step in the life of a man that the Times describes as having a “unique story”: Scott was raised in a single-parent home and nearly flunked out of high school; but after a Chick-fil-A franchise owner became his mentor, things turned around for him.

A compelling story and will surely turn the GOP’s dismal track record all around (sarcasm)……

I do think the Scott will be a good senator…I mean if he only sponsors one bill he has done a 100% improvement over DeMint……..

I hate to tell the GOP this….but Hispanics and Afro-American voters are not as stupid as they think….token candidates does not a big tent party make……

2011 Anal-Ocity #18

Osama bin Laden is STILL DEAD!  Feels GOOD to say that!

This is an old draft I had but the events that unfolded in the last week or so delayed its publication….sorry……

I can only say what a good year for idiot statements and a good year for the Anal-Ocities….you know those lame ass sayings that politicians and others make and then immediately start back peddling……

Today’s anal-ocity comes from the mouth of a Oklahoma state representative, Sally Kern (R)……

“We have a high percentage of blacks in prison, and that’s tragic, but are they in prison just because they are black or because they don’t want to study as hard in school? I’ve taught school, and I saw a lot of people of color who didn’t study hard because they said the government would take care of them.”

Kern added that women earn less than men because “they tend to spend more time at home with their families.”

So blacks earn less because they do not work hard enough and women earn less because they spend more time at home…..this seems to be a reoccurring tactic….to boil something down to its lowest denominator….and I would like to hear her excuse for so many whites that are now living in poverty…..

Is it just me or does the more these people talk the more they show just how racist they really are?  And have you heard this sort of thing coming out of the right wing nuts before?

UpDate:  This sad excuse for a representative has been reprimanded by the Oklahoma state legislature!  But the statement is out there and the feelings have been voiced…..

Classic Southern Thinking

I have many times wrote about how the so-called “New South” is not so New….Southerners are the biggest hypocrites around…..for one, they will not let go of their disastrous past, the Civil War to be more accurate……many of Beck’s ardent admirers are located in the South….beyond that, Southerners have fairly typical of most Americans believe what they want and disregard all else…..if it does not fit into their mental capacity then it is wrong or just not there…..

For instance…..from a report on ABC News…….

The Mississippi division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans had its first specialty license plate approved in 2002. The plate has remained the same for eight years, until this year when the group proposed five new designs to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.One of those designs features Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest, a heralded cavalry leader who also is known for commanding a massacre of black Union Army soldiers at the Battle of Fort Pillow and for being a founding member of the Ku Klux Klan.

“It’s been said he disavowed the Klan later in life and that puts him in the same category as former Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black and former West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd,” said Greg Stewart, a Sons of Confederate Veterans member.

He disavowed the KKK later in life?…….Disavowed?

I am getting to my point…….these liars want the rest of us to believe that a man that hated so badly that he created an organization to inflict pain on other human beings….then saw the light and changed his mind….is that about it?

If you talk to most Southerns about what is happening in Egypt….they will almost always say that the Muslim Brotherhood is starting their push for world domination or something as silly……and trhay the MB is in league with AQ, even though the MB has “disavowed” violence and has condemned AQ as an abomination of Islam…….

Sorry dudes…if the MB is lying then so are the supporters of Forrest……..

Henry Ford may have said best……..”Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason why so few engage in it.”

Haley Barbour–Southern Revisionist

As most of my readers know I live in the South and most specifically, Mississippi and our governor is Haley Barbour……I hear the national pundits talk about his political savvy and all that he has done for the GOP and for that matter all that he has done for the state…..thinking…….thinking…..just what has he done for Mississippi residents that is that amazing?  Infant mortality is high, education is low, obesity is high, poverty is running amok…..so what has he done?  Oh yeah he brought a Tonka Toy (Toyota)  plant to the state that hired about a 100 people…that oughta put a dent in the unemployment rate……

Sorry, I digress…..I just do not see where this man is all that and a bag of chips…but then I am not a national pundit…..

The meat of this post is about the racism that still exists in the South, especially Mississippi…..talk to someone in the state and they will deny it and follow up with some of my best friends are black….a sure sign of lying……or the will say that the rebel flag is a sign of heritage…well that part is true…it is a symbol of the heritage of  HATE….

With that said, the hero of the GOP was interviewed and talked about the days of the civil rights movement in Mississippi…..

In an interview that set off a new round of debate on Monday about racial attitudes and politics, Gov. Haley Barbour of Mississippi, a potential Republican presidential candidate, recalled the 1960s civil rights struggle in his hometown, Yazoo City, saying, “I just don’t remember it as being that bad.”In a profile published Monday in The Weekly Standard, Mr. Barbour also talked about the White Citizens’ Councils of the late 1960s, which opposed racial integration. Mr. Barbour, a teenager and young adult during the 1960s, said that in his town, they were a positive force, praising them as “an organization of town leaders” who refused to tolerate the racist attitudes of the Ku Klux Klan.

“In Yazoo City they passed a resolution that said anybody who started a chapter of the Klan” would be “run out of town,” Mr. Barbour said. “If you had a job, you’d lose it. If you had a store, they’d see nobody shopped there. We didn’t have a problem with the Klan in Yazoo City.”

Revisionism…..those councils were there to fight against blacks becoming part of society…..they were attacked at the their jobs if they tried to integrate, the we attack if they tried to shop in white shops (by attack I am talking about social pressure, though physical pressure was NOT unheard of in Mississippi)…..it is just a continuation of the hate that had built up in the state…..Barbour has very selective memory….and he is a BS arrtist…after all he is a lobbyist in Washington….

His attitude is the same as most Mississippians from age 50 to 90….they are racists and try to cover it with total BS……

He Barbour wants to be a national candidate anytime soon he had better back off this and spin it another way……or he will not be a candidate for president….something he dreams about……

Haley Barbour, Southern revisionist personified!

A Black History Menu

We are in the middle of celebrating Black History Month…where people learn about the lives, accomplishments and history of African-Americans in American history……

NBC is celebrated Black History month with a special menu:

Fried Chicken

Collar greens w/ smoked turkey

White rice/Black eyed peas

Jalapeno cornbread

A special meal to let people know the diet of African-Americans—sorry but if I was black I would be offended by this stereotyping….Hell…I am offended by this overt comment on black Americans…..

Black History Month is celebrated to show the diversity and accomplishments off ALL that fought for civil rights and especially those in the early years that fought against the institution of slavery….and this “special” menu is just an ignorant move but an unfeeling and uneducated group……

Many Whites Hold Racist Views

Best I can say after this is …..”Ya Think?”

One-third of white Democrats harbor negative views of black people, calling them “lazy,” “violent” and responsible for their own troubles, a new poll has found.

Such racial misgivings could cost Barack Obama the White House if the election is close, according to the AP-Yahoo News poll.

The poll, conducted with Stanford University, suggests the percentage of voters who may turn away from Obama because of his race could easily be larger than the final difference between the candidates in 2004 – about 2.5 percentage points.

The poll found that more than a third of all white Democrats and independent voters, who Obama can’t win the White House without, agreed with at least one negative adjective about blacks.

Given a choice of several positive and negative adjectives that might describe blacks, 20 percent of all whites said the word ‘violent’ strongly applied.

Among other words, 22 percent agreed with “boastful,” 29 percent “complaining,” 13 percent “lazy” and 11 percent “irresponsible.”

When asked about positive adjectives, whites were more likely to stay on the fence than give a strongly positive assessment.

If any of this surprises you, then you do not live in the South.  If this poll had been taken only in the South then I believe the numbers and adjectives would have been greater.  Muych progress has been made in the South, but there is a long way to go.

Clinton Has Trouble

The news is all about her desperate continuation of he campaign for the Dem nomination, but there is afew things that most are not looking at right now. I realize that the possible run for the presidency is really important, but since does not look like she is gonna make it, some of the problems she will have if she tries to return to the Senate.

Even as she continues her longshot presidential bid, Hillary Rodham Clinton faces a political rift in New York, where black leaders say her standing has dropped due to racially charged comments by her and her husband during the campaign.

African American elected officials and clerics based in New York City say Clinton will need to defuse resentment over the campaign’s racial overtones if she returns to New York as U.S. senator.

As the campaign unfolded, both Clintons made comments that some black leaders deemed dismissive of Obama. There was Bill Clinton’s suggestion that Obama’s victory in South Carolina carried no more weight than Jesse Jackson’s success there in the 1980s. Other sore points were Hillary Clinton’s claim that she enjoys the support of “hard-working Americans, white Americans” and the credit she gave to President Lyndon Johnson — rather than the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. — on civil rights legislation.

African American leaders said she could repair frayed ties by visiting black churches, backing legislation that shows she is sensitive to conditions in black neighborhoods, and apologizing for comments she and her husband made that seemed to polarize voters and marginalize Obama.

Both she and her hubby may have some serious work to do after the convention and her only hope of not having to face black leaders is to be the Veep candidate…that could be her only saving grace.
