A Black History Menu

We are in the middle of celebrating Black History Month…where people learn about the lives, accomplishments and history of African-Americans in American history……

NBC is celebrated Black History month with a special menu:

Fried Chicken

Collar greens w/ smoked turkey

White rice/Black eyed peas

Jalapeno cornbread

A special meal to let people know the diet of African-Americans—sorry but if I was black I would be offended by this stereotyping….Hell…I am offended by this overt comment on black Americans…..

Black History Month is celebrated to show the diversity and accomplishments off ALL that fought for civil rights and especially those in the early years that fought against the institution of slavery….and this “special” menu is just an ignorant move but an unfeeling and uneducated group……

  1. Well, I suppose a menu of foods that have their origins with Africam Americans (or their ancestors) does make sense on one level of very limited intelligence. It was probably event meant well, which just shows the level of ignorance you’re up against.

The patronising attitude this displays (which is about the kindest interpretation I can put on it) just, as you say, highlights the ignorance that has been the cause of many of the racial difficulties the US has had over the last few hundred years.

The ideas of white racial superiority and supremacy that is alive and well and peeping out from behind the curtain of this bit of stereotyping is all about racial purity. I would ask the right (who generally provide a home for such attitudes), where have you heard that before in Europe? Maybe they should think more carefully before they accuse people like the Democrats of Fascism!

    1. The silly part of this is that most poor whites eat the same things……it is more Southern than African-American, at least these days…..

      1. Yeah, well… I’ve always thought that, if they had a brain, these people would be dangerous, so I suppose we should be thankful for small mercies 😆

      2. My grandfather would say. “if brains were dynamite they do noit have enough to blow their nose”…….

  2. The real problem is NBC’s unwillingness (along with all other news media) to do some old fashioned, hard reporting on civil rights news and civil rights violations. The cold cases, for instance, are staying real COLD as long as the FBI doesn’t get off its duff and do some work. Forget the silly menus — we need to order up some real reporting for every month of the year and not just February.

    1. Susan nice of you to drop by….and I agree, I am a staunch critic of the media…..but that is what we get when corporations are allowed to own the press…….

    2. I agree in theory and I’m sure it would help… But then, isn’t NBC a business? It’s not to my limited knowledge a public service and therefore cannot, in my view, be held responsible for doing what they clearly consider would be contrary to their best business interests.

In the end, it’s the PEOPLE and the GOVERNMENT who are responsible, not some corporation!

There was a saying that the people get the government they deserve – well, sorry, but they certainly get the media they deserve!
