Pro-Choice And The Dems

The Christmas countdown has begun!

Okay before we go through exercise let me state that this is only an observation into the issue of abortion….I am not advocating for one side or the other….this is only my thoughts on the whole issue of abortion from Roe v Wade to today.

My personal opinion in a full disclosure I believe that a woman has a right to her body and government should have NO say in this decision.

The Dems since the beginning have a history of dropping the ball on many issues and abortion is one of them…..

America’s pro-life movement is surging, and not just because of conservative activists—at least according to a detailed New York Times piece about the abortion rights movement’s fragmentation along political, financial, and cultural lines. “It’s really, really complicated and somewhat controversial where the pro-choice movement lost,” says a Rutgers University professor versed in abortion history. With Midwestern and Southern states passing 58 abortion restrictions over six months in 2019, many pointed to years of steady work by conservatives to win state legislatures, pressure judges, and, as the Guardian noted in June, gerrymander districts to win state legislatures. But interviews with over 50 people on the pro-choice side tell another story.

They say national pro-choice leaders had become overly confident, relying too much on President Obama’s abortion protections and assuming Hillary Clinton would win in 2016. Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood was riven by internal discord and apparently didn’t realize the funding problems faced by independent clinics, which perform some 60% of America’s abortions. By one account, pro-choice leaders in swanky New York and California zip codes had lost touch with red-state America. Now Democratic Party presidential candidates are pushing back with ardent pro-choice stands, but polling shows America is still only moderately pro-choice. “I hope they continue doing what they are doing,” says one active conservative. “We’ll run the table in 2020.” Click for the full Times piece

Dems always drop the ball matters not on the issue….they have done so with civil rights, voting rights, etc etc……they get a win and then they are satisfied and move on and leave their win vulnerable to attack from the Right….

They, the Dems, dropped the ball in yesteryear and they are still dropping it as I type.

This issue could be the “sleeper” issue of 2020……

Forget impeachment. Forget Medicare for all, global warming, and income inequality. The sleeper issue of the 2020 campaign is none of those. It is abortion — and it could tip the balance in three swing states to favor President Donald Trump.

Abortion may not be on everybody’s “hot issue” list, but it remains so for the people who head the Catholic Church in the US. And while US Catholic bishops don’t sway a huge percentage of Catholic voters, they just might influence the Catholic voters who count.

An estimated 51 million adult Catholics live in the US, about one-fifth of them in the midwest. When the bishops talk, a key group of swing voters listens: White Catholic voters helped deliver Trump victories in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin in 2016. He won these three crucial swing states by a total of fewer than 80,000 votes.

The Sleeper Issue That Could Swing the 2020 Election

I wish I could say something nice about the Dems but they leave a bunch to be desired….as the Dems of today illustrate….they are bought and sold in the political slave markets of DC.

Democrats are great with big ideas but they SUCK at the art of politics.

Enough said?

A Sunday Thought

The big news for the last week has been the votes on abortion in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi…..speaking for Mississippi a Federal judge has crapped on the religious right’s parade…..

A federal judge on Friday issued a strongly worded preliminary injunction blocking Mississippi’s “heartbeat” abortion law, that would have banned abortions as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, when a fetal heartbeat is detected.

U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves’ order will combine the lawsuit against Mississippi’s fetal heartbeat ban with an ongoing one against the state’s previous 15-week abortion ban.

“Here we go again,” Reeves wrote. “Mississippi has passed another law banning abortions prior to viability. The latest interpretation (Mississippi’s new law) bans abortions in Mississippi after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is as early as 6 weeks.”

The Center for Reproductive Rights had filed a lawsuit challenging Mississippi’s latest abortion ban, which was set to become law July 1.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/05/24/heartbeat-abortion-federal-judge-blocks-mississippis-law/1227710001/

I am sure that Mississippi is not alone and there will be many more challenges to these outrageous “laws”…….

Before I go any further (there is more to be said) I need to let my feelings be known…..

I am against abortion….but I have nothing to say about it for I cannot give birth……NO man should have control over a woman’s decisions or her body…..

That said……these newest “laws” are what is known as the “heart beat laws”…….but are these laws a con job?

Within the last few years, six U.S. states — Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Georgia, Iowa, and North Dakota — have passed so-called “heartbeat bills,” a term that’s become shorthand for a proposed ban on abortions beginning six weeks into a pregnancy, or the point at which a “fetal heartbeat” can be detected. Four more states have similar bills pending. Anti-abortion activists have doubled down on “heartbeat” messaging — in a recent news release regarding the ACLU’s legal challenge of the Ohio bill, the state’s leading anti-abortion group, Ohio Right to Life, used the term eight times in 300 words.

But obstetricians say the term “fetal heartbeat” is misleading, and that this scientific misunderstanding, among countless others, may contribute to negative public opinion toward abortion.

https://www.thecut.com/2019/05/embryos-dont-have-hearts.html

Not to worry this issue does not let facts get in the way of the con.

I understand that this is an emotional issue……but what part of it moves the country forward?  This is not a political issue and does not belong in the discourse of the nation.  When this issue builds a new bridge then I may alter my thinking but until then I shall keep my opinion.

I even wrote my thoughts on the question awhile a go…….https://lobotero.com/2019/05/17/what-part-of-this-moves-the-country-forward/

What Part Of This Moves The Country Forward?

In the last couple of weeks abortion has once again taken front row importance in politics……

First in Georgia……

One, two, three—and now, four. Georgia has passed a bill banning abortions after a detectable fetal “heartbeat,” making it the fourth US state to pass such a law this year, per Vox. “All life has value, all life matters and all life is worthy of protection,” Gov. Brian Kemp said Tuesday in signing the bill more than a month after it passed the legislature, per the Atlanta Journal Constitution. As in Ohio, Kentucky, and Mississippi, court challenges await. Critics say the bill equals a near-total abortion ban as fetal cardiac activity is detected just six weeks into pregnancy, before many women know they’re pregnant. It “flies in the face of 50 years of US Supreme Court precedent,” says Andrea Young of Georgia’s ACLU. “We will see Governor Kemp in court.”

Unless it’s struck down, the law will go into effect in January with exceptions when the mother’s life is at risk or for “the accidental or unintentional injury to or death of an unborn child.” Unlike Ohio’s law, a woman in Georgia can also obtain an abortion after the fetal heartbeat is detected in cases of rape or incest, though she’ll need to provide a police report. Otherwise, mothers, doctors, nurses, and pharmacists could be subject to criminal prosecution for seeking, performing, or assisting in an abortion once a heartbeat is heard.

Then came the Alabama law…….

After rejecting an attempt to add an exception for rape or incest, Alabama’s Senate passed the nation’s strictest abortion law Tuesday. The bill, which passed by a vote of 25-6, makes performing an abortion at any stage of pregnancy a felony punishable by up to 99 years or life in prison, the Guardian reports. Four Republican senators joined Democrats in voting in favor of the rape or incest exception, which was defeated 21-11. The only exception that remained in the bill is for women whose health is at serious risk. The bill—which punishes doctors, not women seeking abortions—will now head to the desk of Gov. Kay Ivey, whose office says she won’t make a decision until she sees the final version of the legislation, reports AL.com. (Not to worry the gov signed it into law)

I have one question….but before I ask it…..on a personal note…I am against abortion but it is never my decision to make and therefore it has definitely not the government’s place to make it either.

I understand the state’s push to limit voting or gerrymandering….that moves a political agenda and benefits a party over another.

With that said….this push for the overturning of Roe v Wade…..what does it do for the country?  Does it improve the infrastructure?  Does it improve the income of states?  Does it create any jobs?  Does it help feed the hungry?  Or house the homeless?  Maybe help keep the border safe?

Just what in Hell does this energy, time and money actually do for the state that the laws have been passed?

This is how you do it.  This is how you overturn a law that you do  not like.  Chip away at it until the emotions run high and you get stuff done.

It has taken 50+ years and all that whining and bitching could pay off when this makes it to the Supreme Court….this is how you force a belief on a country that does not agree with you.

To me this is a worthless endeavor that does NOTHING to improve the country and the lives of the people.

Ain’t democracy great?

Talbert Swan put something on Twitter that rings true…..

Only in American can you be:

Pro-Death Penalty– Pro-Unrestricted Gun Rights– Pro-War Pro-Preemptive Strikes– Pro-Torture– Pro-Healthcare Repeal Pro-Police, defending every extrajudicial murder of an unarmed  persons… …and still perfidiously call yourself ‘Pro-Life.’

Well said!

We Can Pretend…

..But with or without Kavanaugh there will be nothing changed when it comes to abortion.

We have had good judges and then we have had the ones we have today.

These judges are the referees of our republic and yet it has come down to ideology not the rule of law.  The judges are voting, for the most part, along party lines not whether a law is beneficial or restrictive to the population.

As the midterm elections speed towards us, defeated Americans hope for a ‘blue wave’ of Democrats to save us. Republicans, who align across the board with President Trump’s corporate ecocide agenda, want to push through Trump’s despicable Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh before a potential blue wave. Republicans may not trust Donald Trump, but they agree with him on the issues and will take whatever gains he has provided the party.

Trump has called his nominee Kavanaugh a man of outstanding intellect. Such a phrase coming from Trump is enough to make anyone giggle. It’s like the tortoise saying the sloth is extremely fast. It all depends on the perspective.

Whenever Trump cozies up to someone it always makes me uneasy. For one, it is always so over the top it becomes clear Trump has never given a genuine compliment to anyone in his life. Even more troubling would be the character of the person Trump is complimenting. If he finds something redeemable about you, you should take a long look in the mirror.

https://www.counterpunch.org/2018/09/21/with-or-without-kavanaugh-the-united-states-is-anti-choice/

I beginning to think that the Supreme Court is a colossal waste of time and money….why not just banish these spineless partisan hacks and just let the elections decide what the laws of the country will be and who gets screwed by them.

Of course I am being a bit bombastic here….but you get what I am railing about, right?

Closing Thought–26Jun18

So many people are wondering why the evangelicals are quiet over what the president is doing because they see that it flies in the face of the beliefs of Christianity…..there is an easy answer……they want Trump to appoint those judges that will do the bidding so they can have their way with abortions and forcing their Christian beliefs on the country……

Well the most recent ruling but SCOTUS shows the value of having activists judges on the court……the most recent ruling was on the Trump travel ban………

The Supreme Court has just delivered a major victory to President Trump by upholding his travel ban, reports Politico. The justices split 5-4 along the usual lines, with the conservative majority winning the day. The court actually upheld the president’s third version of his ban, this one issued last fall and originally barring travelers from eight countries, reports the Washington Post. The eight were Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Chad, Venezuela, and North Korea, though Chad was later removed. Six of those countries have Muslim majorities, but the White House insisted to the court that it was not a “Muslim ban.” The state of Hawaii and other challengers disagreed and argued, unsuccessfully, that Trump had exceeded his executive authority with the move.

“SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS TRUMP TRAVEL BAN. Wow!,” tweeted Trump after the news broke. The decision ends more than a year of legal arguments about a key component of the president’s immigration policy, notes NBC News. Trump put his first travel ban into effect soon after taking office, but it caused chaos in airports and met stiff resistance in courtrooms. The second iteration didn’t fare much better, but the third has now succeeded. The ban has been in effect since December, when the Supreme Court allowed it to take effect while the legal case played out.

Not to worry there is more……..

The Supreme Court delivered good news on Tuesday to faith-based pregnancy centers that oppose abortion. In a 5-4 ruling, the justices blocked key provisions of a California law requiring the clinics to inform patients about low-cost abortions provided elsewhere, reports the Los Angeles Times. While the court did not strike down all of the law, it returned the case to lower courts, with Clarence Thomas writing in his majority opinion that challengers were “likely to succeed.” He concluded that forcing the clinics to talk to patients about abortions probably violates their free-speech rights, reports the AP. “California cannot co-opt the licensed facilities to deliver its message for it,” Thomas wrote. Chief Justice John Roberts joined him, along with Anthony Kennedy, Samuel Alito, and Neil Gorsuch.

The law went into effect in 2016 after lawmakers raised concerns that the anti-abortion pregnancy centers were using “intentionally deceptive advertising and counseling practices,” per the LAT. The law was two-pronged, explains NPR. If a center was unlicensed, it had to make that fact prominently known, including in signs and advertising. If the center was licensed but did not provide abortions, it had to post signs saying that the procedures were provided by the state. While the law affects only California clinics, the court ruling could have ramifications in other states. However, as USA Today notes, that might actually be good news for those who support the right to have an abortion. For example, the ruling could possibly be used to strike down laws in conservative states requiring women to have ultrasounds before an abortion.

This is what you get when activist judges are the priority for appointment to the Supreme Court…..

I will be out of pocket tomorrow……I will explain in tomorrow’s post…..chuq

“Reversible” Abortion?

I am about to post on a subject that I do not normally do so…..abortion.

I guess we could say the this is a PSA (Public Service Announcement) or maybe even an FYI piece…..

I leave this subject alone for the most part because it is a personal decision and in that matter I have no say…..since I will never have to make that decision then my opinion means nothing as does everyone else….if it is not your choice then silence is advised.

But occasionally I read something while doing research that I feel I need to post it here on IST…..and yesterday was one of those days…..

I think everyone knows that there is a “morning after” pill….will there is a doctor that convinces people that he can nullify the effects of the pill……

George Delgado made his first attempt at reversing an abortion in 2009.

He got a call from Terri Palmquist, a missionary at the evangelical group LifeSavers Ministries who ran in the same California anti-abortion circles he did. Palmquist said she’d gotten a call from a young woman in El Paso, Texas, who had taken the abortion pill, a common method for ending a pregnancy, but changed her mind. The woman wanted to know if there was any way to reverse the effects of the pill. Palmquist turned to Delgado, a family practice doctor in San Diego, seeking advice.

Delgado had never heard of anyone “reversing” a medical abortion before, but he had an idea for how to try. A medical abortion comes in the form of two pills: Mifepristone, the first, works by blocking the hormone progesterone and preventing a pregnancy from continuing. Misoprostol, the second pill, is taken 24 to 48 hours later to cause contractions that empty the uterus.

“Assie” Award–Feb2017

It is the last Sunday of the month and time to announce the monthly winner of the Assie Award……..

There were 4 moronic statements made this month….well actually more than that after all we have idiots running the asylum now….but the 4 were boiled down to the 2 and the winner is……..

Oklahoma state Representative….. Justin Humphrey…and his abortion bill (HB1441)…..which require a woman to get a man’s permission before proceeding….

“I believe one of the breakdowns in our society is that we have excluded the man out of all of these types of decisions. I understand that [women] feel like that is their body. I feel like it is a separate—what I call them is, is you’re a “host.” And you know when you enter into a relationship you’re going to be that host and so, you know, if you pre-know that then take all precautions and don’t get pregnant.”

After much deliberation my colleagues and I have picked the winner……(Drum roll if you please)……

Congrats to Rep. Humphrey for being an unfeeling douche bag

A good quote for an ending….”I’m the one guy who says don’t force the stupid people to be quiet – I want to know who the morons are.”

AMEN!

Let’s see who can top this as moronic shall we?

Closing Thought–24Feb17

Word of the Day–Abortions!

This is a subject that I seldom write about because it is a person’s private decision and NO one belongs in the loop other than the person having to make it….certainly NOT the government.

Another reason is that I am male and as such will not have to make this decision….that is about to come to an end…..the writing part that is…..

In Oklahoma, abortion rights advocates breathed a big sigh of relief when a particularly draconian measure, requiring a woman seeking an abortion to get written approval from the man who impregnated her, was tabled last week. That sigh may have come too soon: The state’s House Public Health Committee is set to reconsider HB 1441 today. The proposal would require a woman to get written permission for an abortion from the biological father, identify him to her doctor in writing, and allow him to demand a paternity test.

This measure is the latest in a series of efforts to limit access to abortion in Oklahoma. Gov. Mary Fallin, a Republican, has signed 20 anti-abortion bills over the course of her six-year tenure, including measures that tripled the waiting period from 24 to 72 hours and banned the use of telemedicine to administer medication abortion. Initially, state Rep. Justin Humphrey called his proposal an effort to make sure fathers support their child from conception, but as the Intercept reports, the lawmaker clarified his position when he said:

I believe one of the breakdowns in our society is that we have excluded the man out of all of these types of decisions. I understand that [women] feel like that is their body. I feel like it is a separate—what I call them is, is you’re a “host.” And you know when you enter into a relationship you’re going to be that host and so, you know, if you pre-know that then take all precautions and don’t get pregnant.

Source: This Bill Would Require Abortions to Be Approved by Men | Mother Jones

I have been writing for 40+ years and this whole thing is some of the most moronic bullshit I have ever heard.

I am sure that there will be some that will try to defend this issue….but unless they are female then they need to keep it to themselves.

Huckabee: Driving The Clown Car (For Now)

There are 17 GOP candidates for the party nomination……and it looks like a few of them want to be in the drivers seat……at least for the first couple of debates……and the biggest GOP blow hard of the week has got to be Huckabee……..

First he rattled on about the Iran nuke deal…….first he said that if it was approved it would be leading Israel to the oven door…….poor taste at best….then he had to go further on the deal……he then stated that it the deal is approved there would be a mushroom cloud over Israel…….that has NO taste….just plain bullshit!  Is there not something in his religion about “bearing false witness”?

But one of his best came just the other day…..he has moved on from Israel and Iran…..now he is harping on abortion……..

Donald Trump isn’t the only candidate to raise eyebrows with his comments. Mike Huckabee this week promised to get aggressive against abortion as president, and he didn’t rule out using federal troops or the FBI to do so, reports the Topeka Capital-Journal. The remarks came in two public appearances: At the first, he said he would “invoke the Fifth and 14th Amendments for the protection of every human being,” including unborn babies. At the second event, a reporter asked if that meant using troops or the FBI, and he said, “We’ll see, if get to be president.”

Salon notes that the reporter was none other than Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stone, who tweetedabout the exchange. And what about Roe v. Wade? Huckabee told the crowd that Abraham Lincoln defied the Supreme Court’s Dred Scott decision, which denied African-Americans the right to citizenship, when he freed the slaves. The Topeka newspaper, though, quotes a Berkeley law professor who thinks Huckabee is “off base,” adding, “I think he’d better more carefully examine what he’s saying, because it is totally unprecedented.”

Does this mental midget know anything about “federal law”?  Does this “person” mean that he would prevent Americans from having the freedom of choice?  And these types accuse Obama of being a Nazi……..go figure.

This douche bag is doing what ALL politicians do at election time…..tell the voter what they want to hear……no matter whether it is the truth of not……..does this Israeli hooker realize that his BS on religion is NO better than the Muslims that want to force their beliefs on others……..

Is this guy for real?  NO he is not….and he will NEVER be president!

Texas: “Seducing Men Has Consequences”

BATCRAP CRAZY!

I normally stay out of the abortion debate……for one I think it is a diversion and second that decision is none of anyone’s business but the person having to make it.  It is a silly argument where some little minded d/bags force their antiquated ideas on the rest of society.

I could not resist when I read this article the other day……the more they talk the more Texas politicians look batcrap crazy!

You read this and then tell me…..
