The Fallacious World Of Oz

NO this is not some cheesy knock-off or the some bad TV movie that relates to the beloved classic ‘Wizard of Oz”…..it is a look at the world that that hack Dr. Oz brings to the country.

Oz-zie boy is throwing the well worn MAGA BS about the billions of dollars wasted on immigrants….

Oz’s release said that California had spent $1.3 billion in federal taxpayer dollars to provide Medicaid coverage to illegal immigrants. Washington, D.C., spent more than $2 million in federal money on its Medicaid for illegal immigrants, and Oregon spent $5.4 million.

Illinois, which spent more than $629 million from its state budget on illegal immigrant healthcare last year, used almost $30 million in federal taxpayer funds to provide the illegal immigrant population Medicaid.

CMS’s findings come as the issue of federal funding for illegal immigrant healthcare has taken center stage in the federal government shutdown that started Oct. 1.

Of course these figures were to be found in the Washington Examiner….

Now let’s look at some real figures and not the lies of the Donny group….

Emergency Medicaid expenditures accounted for only a fraction of overall Medicaid spending, a cross-sectional analysis showed.

Among 38 states and Washington, D.C., emergency Medicaid expenditures accounted for a mean of 0.4% of total Medicaid spending, at a mean cost of $9.63 per resident, with some variability across states, reported Patricia Mae Santos, MD, of the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University in Atlanta, and colleagues.

States with larger undocumented populations spent more on emergency Medicaid, accounting for a mean of 0.9% of state Medicaid expenditures among states with the highest undocumented population share compared with 0.1% among states with the lowest undocumented population.

“The main takeaway is that emergency Medicaid is quite a microscopic percentage of the Medicaid budget. It’s not really a driver of Medicaid costs and Medicaid spending,” Leo Cuello, an attorney and research professor at the Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy’s Center for Children and Families in Washington, D.C., told MedPage Today.

For this analysis, the authors relied on financial management report data for fiscal year 2022 from the Medicaid Budget and Expenditure System. They also looked to other publicly available datasets to measure covariates by state, including Medicaid expansion status, the share of the population in each state that is undocumented, its census region, and political ideology index.

The study represents the “first and most contemporary analysis” of emergency Medicaid spending on both the national and state levels, Santos said.

Is There A Mutiny Afoot?

It is no surprise that I think the Donny band of thugs are as incompetent as anything…..but high on the incompetency list is the head of HHS….RFK Jr.

Something needs to be done to curb this idiot and his false information that he passes on to the public.

Something needs to be done….well maybe there is something brewing….a recently fired HHS employee is talking….

Steven Hatfill, a senior adviser at the Department of Health and Human Services, was fired over the weekend, according to both Hatfill and a senior agency official. Hatfill, known for his public support of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s move to end funding for mRNA vaccine research, claims his dismissal is part of a broader effort to undermine Kennedy’s leadership, per the New York Times. He alleges Matt Buckham, the secretary’s chief of staff, is orchestrating what he described as a “coup,” though he did not provide details to support this claim.

The department official, who spoke anonymously about the personnel issue, offered a different explanation, saying Hatfill was fired for misrepresenting himself as the “chief medical officer” for the assistant secretary for preparedness and response, and for not coordinating policy decisions with department leadership. “Firing a staff member for cause does not add up to a coup,” the official added. Hatfill disputes these accusations and says the department itself issued business cards listing him as both senior adviser and chief medical officer.

When he appeared on Steve Bannon’s podcast in August to claim, without evidence, that mRNA COVID vaccines are more dangerous than the disease itself, his title was listed as chief medical officer at the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, Bloomberg reports. The virologist promoted hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin as early treatments for COVID during the pandemic, a position widely disputed by medical experts. Some two decades ago, he was wrongly targeted in the 2001 anthrax investigation, for which the Justice Department later paid him a $4.6 million settlement.

WE can only hope that this ‘mutiny’ will be successful and rid the nation of this fake…..this country deserves so much better from the HHS than RFK.

Making America Healthy Again?

Seriously?

+++Before I go any further…..today I start the next round of treatment…..today is labs and doctors so I have no idea how long this will take ….this may be my only post today and I thought one of health issues would be a good one+++

For few decades now we have been warned about the evils of saturated fats….and the health problems that they could contribute to in one’s lifetime.

I know this is not TikTok so I will assist you and the understanding of these….

Saturated fat is a type of dietary fat. It is one of the unhealthy fats, along with trans fat. These fats are most often solid at room temperature. Foods like butter, palm and coconut oils, cheese, and red meat have high amounts of saturated fat.

Too much saturated fat in your diet can lead to heart disease and other health problems.

Saturated fats are bad for your health in several ways:

Heart disease risk. Your body needs healthy fats for energy and other functions. But too much saturated fat can cause cholesterol to build up in your arteries (blood vessels). Saturated fats raise your LDL (bad) cholesterol. High LDL cholesterol increases your risk for heart disease and stroke.

Weight gain. Many high-fat foods such as pizza, baked goods, and fried foods have a lot of saturated fat. Eating too much fat can add extra calories to your diet and cause you to gain weight. All fats contain 9 calories per gram of fat. This is more than twice the amount found in carbohydrates and protein.

Cutting out high-fat foods can help keep your weight in check and your heart healthy. Staying at a healthy weight can reduce your risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, and other health problems.

https://medlineplus.gov/ency/patientinstructions/000838.htm

Like I stated this is common knowledge and has been for decades

If the research is solid then what is our incompetent head of HHS up to?

U.S. dietary guidelines could soon undergo another overhaul under the Trump administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” initiative, and the proposal has already drawn criticism.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is set to unveil new guidance encouraging the consumption of more foods previously considered unhealthy, including those high in saturated fats.

Kennedy has argued Americans need more trans and saturated fats, not less, saying foods like butter, cheese, milk and red meat have been unfairly demonized for decades. The updated guidance could be released as soon as this month.

“New dietary guidelines that are common sense, that stress the need to eat saturated fats of dairy, of good meat, of fresh meat and vegetables … when we release those, it will give everybody the rationale for driving it into our schools,” Kennedy said.

MTG Is At It Again

There have been some wild swings in the stands that MTG grapples with and they swing from batcrap crazy like chem trails to her newest thing….healthcare…..the later being a question for the rest of the GOP.

Republicans did not vote to extend the subsidies in July’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). And if they are allowed to expire at the end of 2025, KFF estimates that the average recipient’s insurance premiums will more than double, from $888 to $1,906 per year, which will result in about 4 million people losing their insurance due to unaffordability, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

This is on top of the roughly 10 million expected to lose insurance coverage due to the GOP’s massive cuts to Medicaid and other ACA marketplace spending in the Republican budget law.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) have maintained that they would not negotiate on extending the subsidies unless Democrats vote to reopen the government, thereby sacrificing their main point of leverage.

In a blistering post on X, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said that while she was “not a fan” of the ACA and blamed it for “skyrocketing premiums,” she was “going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hardworking people in my district.”

“No, I’m not [toeing] the party line on this, or playing loyalty games,” Greene continued. “I’m carving my own lane. And I’m absolutely disgusted that health insurance premiums will DOUBLE if the tax credits expire this year.”

Greene lamented that “not a single Republican in leadership talked to us about this or has given us a plan to help Americans deal with their health insurance premiums DOUBLING!!!”

She then turned her attention to the tens of billions of dollars worth of military aid sent to Israel and Ukraine in recent years: “All our country does is fund foreign countries and foreign wars, and never does anything to help the American people!!!”

https://www.commondreams.org/news/mtg-scolds-gop-over-healthcare

I agreed with her on the Israel stand she took and now I find myself thinking that she has learned a thing of two since joining Congress.

Yet deep down I feel that this is just a temporary thing for her that the batcrap crazy will return and return with a vengeance.

But if it actually starts a real conversation on the subject then I say bully for her.

What say you?

Americans Love Drugs

Our 50 year war on drugs has been expanded by Donny in his less than genius thinking.

The war on drugs, sometimes referred to in the 21st century as the war on cartels in contexts of military intervention and counterterrorism, is a global anti-narcotics campaign led by the United States federal government, including drug prohibition and foreign assistance, with the aim of reducing the illegal drug trade in the US.  The initiative’s efforts includes policies intended to discourage the production, distribution, and consumption of psychoactive drugs that the participating governments, through United Nations treaties, have made illegal.

The term “war on drugs” was popularized by the media after a press conference, given on June 17, 1971, during which President Richard Nixon declared drug abuse “public enemy number one”.  Earlier that day, Nixon had presented a special message to the US Congress on “Drug Abuse Prevention and Control”, which included text about devoting more federal resources to the “prevention of new addicts, and the rehabilitation of those who are addicted”; that aspect did not receive the same media attention as the term “war on drugs”.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_drugs

Let’s be honest…..yes there have been some amazing seizures and busts over those 50 years…..but the problem is all the money spent and the arrests and such and drugs are still popular…..and no matter the actions, policies, and BS the drugs keep flowing…..and Donny brilliant idea of killing drug runners is not going to change anything.

The Wall Street Journal published an article titled “America Loves Cocaine Again—Mexico’s New Drug King Cashes In.” It’s a detailed account of the return of cocaine amid a recent drop in fentanyl use by Americans. “Cocaine sold in the U.S. is cheaper and as pure as ever for retail buyers,” according to the article. The drug has seen a 154 percent increase in consumption since 2019.

For a variety of reasons, the U.S. is the most significant illicit drug market in the world, with the most drug users. Though 45 percent of Americans describe the problem of drugs in the U.S. as “extremely serious,” drug use is a growing trend. About 25 percent of Americans reported past-year use of “illicit drugs” in 2024—an increase of three percentage points since 2021—according to the 2024 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

Many Americans have gone from tolerance of psychoactive drug use to active participation at scale, and demand is edging up. However, public drug use and the rise in fentanyl overdoses in cities such as Portland, Oregon, San Francisco, and Baltimore have spurred public outcry. Given that the country’s annual drug overdose death rate doubled between 2015 and 2023, it makes sense that 52 percent of Americans feel the U.S. is “losing ground on the illegal drug problem,” according to a Gallup poll.

https://reason.com/2025/09/19/americans-like-drugs-killing-drug-traffickers-wont-change-that/

One minor thought of drug smuggling….

Out of 12,004 nationwide drug trafficking convictions, 78 percent (9,362) involved U.S. citizens, according to the Cato Institute. The trend remains even in regions along the Southwest border, typically seen as cartel havens, where U.S. citizens account for nearly 72 percent of drug trafficking convictions. Similarly, in the Gulf of Mexico and districts along the Caribbean, U.S. citizens account for 68 percent of convicted drug traffickers.

So you see all this chest thumping over some accused drug smuggling is nothing more that an idiot attempting to look engaged.

We Americans love our drugs….get over it!

Mississippi Declares An Emergency

I have written a lot about my state of Mississippi how it is always at the bottom of good things and the top of bad…..and we are having a rise in infant mortality and the state reacts….

Mississippi has declared a public health emergency as its infant mortality rate climbs to the highest level in 14 years, highlighting urgent concerns about healthcare access and deepening racial disparities. The state counted 9.7 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2024, nearly double the national average, per CBS News. State officials say that over 3,500 infants have died before their first birthday since 2014. The emergency declaration is rare, but health leaders argue it’s necessary to treat infant deaths as an urgent crisis.

The declaration is meant to speed up efforts to close gaps in care, including expanding prenatal services in underserved counties, improving emergency transfers, and boosting programs that offer home visits and community health support. “Every single infant loss represents a family devastated, a community impacted, and a future cut short,” said State Health Officer Dr. Dan Edney, per CBS. “We cannot and will not accept these numbers as our reality,” he added, per ABC News, which reports the leading causes of infant death include congenital malformations, premature birth, low birth weight, and sudden infant death syndrome.

Racial disparities loom large. Black infants in Mississippi are more than twice as likely to die before turning one compared to white infants, and the gap is growing. National data show similar trends even in cities with better healthcare, highlighting the role of broader social factors—poverty, housing, and healthcare access—beyond clinical care.

What can we expect when every year the state legislature cuts spending especially to the poor and rural hospitals and clinics cannot stay afloat and close….and now some of the leadership of the state…..Mississippi is a deep red State….is scrambling to try and curb a disaster of their own making.

I am looking forward to reading about their solutions for this problem and trend…..I will bet that some other needed program will take the hit so the goofs that run this state can pretend to repair the disparities.

This is what we get when we elect idiots and Repubs….it sucks….but nearly as bad as their fake certain.

Veggies Are Next

First if was some stuff about Bird Flu and the price of eggs shot up by 50+%…..then Donny imposed his tariffs and everything became more and more expensive….first it was the prices for meat….

Of course I felt obligated to pass on what I had read about this rise….

Expensive Being A Meat Eater

So like any other normal person I decided to supplement my smaller meat portions with veggies…..now that is not going to happen….

Wholesale food prices rose 1.4% from June to July, with one big subsector leading the way: fresh and dry vegetables, which surged 38.9% in that same time period, per the AP. That’s the largest month-on-month spike for veggies since March 2022, as well as the biggest increase in a summer month since record-keeping for this data started after World War II, reports Axios, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics data. The outlet notes that these wholesale stats could portend a jump in prices soon at the supermarket as well.

So how much does this “veggie-flation” have to do with the Trump administration’s ongoing global trade war? “Because we get most of that produce across the border, and they’re imports, the tariffs have a lot to do with that,” Phil Kafarakis, CEO of IFMA The Food Away From Home Association, tells Axios. “Over a third of our vegetables are imported,” agrees Michigan State University food economist David Ortega, who tells Marketplace that items like tomatoes, cucumbers, cauliflower, and asparagus are especially susceptible to higher tariffs.

Kafarakis, meanwhile, tells Axios that things could even get worse in the fall, when harvest season begins, with a possible decline in farm workers to gather that produce amid Trump’s accompanying immigration crackdown. “Getting into October, the quality and then the capacity of what we’re able to bring in is going to be a real, real problem,” he notes. “Prices will soar to keep demand in check.”

I guess that means if I want to get more healthy food I will be eating more fruit….that is wrong as well for a lot of our fruit comes through import and that means higher prices for this as well….

Since produce is getting more expensive does that mean vegans will be paying through nose more so than us god awful meat eaters?

Thoughts?

Finally a short economics lesson…..just a look at how much we spend on groceries….

According to the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) July 2025 food plans, a moderate-to-liberal-cost grocery plan for a single adult ranges from roughly $300 to $450 per month, depending on age and gender. For a family of four, following a moderate-cost USDA food plan, monthly grocery spending would rise to around $1,337.60, depending on the ages of the children — a 3.4% increase from $1,293 in the same month in 2023. Even the low-cost (thrifty) plan would cost a family of four $994 a month.

Using the USDA’s food plan as a guide, a single adult, earning the national median monthly income of $5,175, should plan on spending roughly 7-9% of their income on groceries. Meanwhile a family of four earning the national median household income, which was $80,610 via the Census Bureau’s 2024 report, should plan on spending as much as 20% of their income on food every month. However, while these USDA figures offer a structured benchmark, they’re ultimately falling short of what most people are actually spending. The BLS has found that the average American is spending $504 on groceries monthly, but the USDA suggests that a single adult should be spending $400 instead — a 22% difference. Even worse, this is before factoring in things like regional price differences, dietary needs, bad grocery shopping strategies, and food waste.

He Lowered Drug Prices By 1500%

I am an old fart and I have lots of meds that are not always cheap….especially cancer drugs but not to worry Dear Lovable Donny has lowered drug prices by 1500%.

Are you reading this?

Seriously?  1500%

President Donald Trump bragged on Sunday that he had lowered drug prices by up to 1500 percent—an arithmetical absurdity, even by his standards.

Trump floated the impossible figure just days after he fired a top government statistics official over numbers he didn’t like.

Trump told reporters in Allentown, Pennsylvania, that his administration had brought about a “tremendous drop in drug prices.”

“You know, we’ve cut drug prices by 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500 percent,” Trump said. “I don’t mean 50 percent, I mean 14, 1500 percent.”

He added, “We want the same prices Europe gets, we want the same prices other country gets.”

“So we’ll be dropping drug prices,” he said, before throwing out another confusing set of figures. “It’ll start over the next two to three months. By 1200, 1300, and even 1400 percent. And 500 percent.”

Reducing the price of something by more than 100 percent would mean that not only does it become free—the consumer would be getting paid to take the product.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-says-hes-lowered-drug-prices-by-1500-after-firing-stats-boss/

My degrees are not in math or economics but a savings of 100% would mean my meds would be free….so far my wallet does not see the 1500% savings….how about yours?

This absurdity goes unnoticed by his semi-literate supports….what does it take for these mindless dipshits to realize how bad they are being screwed by this self-absorbed idiot?

Just wondering!

Do As You Are Told

I had an idea back in the early days of AI where the program took over a person and made him/her do as they we told….I thought then it would make a great cheesy SciFi movie…..

I have made no secret that I do not like AI and will not use it for now…..Artificial Intelligence is like artificial insemination…..creation without the work…..far too many good people are depending on AI for their work….cannot work out good.

Now is it possible this will lead to a mental illness?

For months, we and our colleagues elsewhere in the tech media have been reporting on what experts are now calling “ChatGPT psychosis“: when AI users fall down alarming mental health rabbit holes in which a chatbot encourages wild delusions about conspiracies, mystical entities, or crackpot new scientific theories.

The resulting breakdowns have led users to homelessness, involuntary commitment to psychiatric care facilities, and even violent death and suicide.

Until recently, the tech industry and its financial backers have had little to say about the phenomenon. But last week, one of their own — venture capitalist Geoff Lewis, a managing partner at the multi-billion dollar firm Bedrock who is heavily invested in machine learning ventures including OpenAI — raised eyebrows with a series of posts that prompted concerns about his own mental health.

In the posts, he claimed that he’d somehow used ChatGPT to uncover a shadowy “non-government agency” that he said had “negatively impacted over 7,000 lives” and “extinguished” 12 more.

Whatever’s going on with Lewis, who didn’t respond to our request for comment, his posts have prompted an unprecedented outpouring of concern among high-profile individuals in the tech industry about what the massive deployment of poorly-understood AI tech may be having on the mental health of users worldwide.

“If you’re a friend or family, please check on him,” wrote Hish Bouabdallah, a software engineer who’s worked at Apple, Coinbase, Lyft, and Twitter, of Lewis’ thread. “He doesn’t seem alright.”

Other posts were far less empathetic, though there seemed to be a dark undercurrent to the gallows humor: if a billionaire investor can lose his grip after a few too many prompts, what hope do the rest of us have?

https://futurism.com/tech-industry-ai-mental-health

But if one falls into the AI trap there is help….

An unknown number of people, in the US and around the world, are being severely impacted by what experts are now calling “AI psychosis”: life-altering mental health spirals coinciding with obsessive use of anthropomorphic AI chatbots, primarily OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

As we’ve reported, the consequences of these mental health breakdowns — which have impacted both people with known histories of serious mental illness and those who have none — have sometimes been extreme. People have lost jobs and homes, been involuntarily committed or jailed, and marriages and families have fallen apart. At least two people have died.

There’s yet to be a formal diagnosis or definition, let alone a recommended treatment plan. And as psychiatrists and researchers in the worlds of medicine and AI race to understand what’s happening, some of the humans whose lives have been upended by these AI crises have crowdsourced a community support group where, together, they’re trying to grapple with the confusing real-world impacts of this disturbing technological phenomenon.

community calls itself “The Spiral Support Group,” in a nod to both the destructive mental rabbit holes that many chatbot users are falling into, as well as the irony that the term “spiral” is one of several common words found in the transcripts of many users separately experiencing AI delusions.

https://futurism.com/support-group-ai-psychosis

If one uses AI for their work then please seek help before it is too late.

I still think this would make a great script for a SciFi movie and with a little tweaking possibly a TV series.

BURDEN Act

Another excellent idea from the Dems…..but will this fly?

For decades I have been criticizing the government on their double standards toward healthcare….you see the elected people get full coverage health plan and yet they do not want the rest of us to have such a luxury…..why?

The recent bill that Donny has signed into law did a lot of cutting of different benefits and the eyes of conservs is on Medicare….but now the House Dems have put forth what I think is an excellent ideas…..

In response to Republicans’ new law giving tax breaks to the rich while gutting the social safety net, U.S. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi on Thursday introduced legislation that would force members of Congress “to personally comply with the same burdensome work requirement paperwork they imposed on low-income Americans.”

Under the Illinois Democrat’s Bringing Unfair Reporting Duties to Electeds Now (BURDEN) Act, federal lawmakers “would be barred from enrolling in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program unless they submit monthly proof of ‘community engagement,’ the same bureaucratic reporting required of Medicaid recipients,” his office said.

Krishnamoorthi’s two-page bill would also force members of Congress to file the same paperwork as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients to verify eligibility, employment, and income. The proposal comes less than two weeks after President Donald Trump signed congressional Republicans’ budget reconciliation package.

The so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act is expected to leave 17 million Americans without health insurance, and, according to an Urban Institute analysis, an estimated 22.3 million families are projected to lose some or all of their SNAP benefits.

“President Trump’s reckless ‘Large Lousy Law’ forces millions of vulnerable Americans to jump through hoops just to keep food on the table or get the medical care they need,” Krishnamoorthi said in a statement. “If congressional Republicans think these burdens are appropriate for struggling families, then members of Congress should shoulder them too. The BURDEN Act simply says, if you want taxpayer-funded health coverage, prove you meet the same standards you’re imposing on the American people.”

https://www.commondreams.org/news/big-beautiful-bill-medicaid

I would have like to see a bill that would make the officials responsible for their own health plan…..that is until the rest of the country gets their consideration from these lay-abouts.

AS long as this has come up…..what about making a case for single payer plan?

Privatization of publicly funded Medicare and Medicaid, managed care, and “value-based payment”1 have failed to reduce cost or improve population health despite over 30 years of trying, and a new paradigm for health policy is needed. This article summarizes key health policy concepts and the implications of different payment systems and offers recommendations for design of an optimally cost-effective system enabling universal high-quality care at lowest cost.

Key Concepts

1. Should Health Care be Financed as a Public Good or with Market Competition?

Public funding is appropriate for essential public services necessary for everyone—funded by taxes and paid for with budgets based on cost of operations, with no opportunity for profit or loss. Examples include police and fire departments, public schools, the military, roads and bridges, and government services. Health care should be added to this list. Other industrialized countries with far more cost-effective universal systems treat health care as a public good, not a commodity.

Marketplace financing uses competition, market forces, private enterprise, and opportunity for profit and risk of loss. This works well for consumer goods, industry and manufacturing, hotels and restaurants, fuel and food production, and housing (except for those in poverty). These are appropriately subject to market forces, but health care is not.

2. Ethics: Professional vs Commercial Ethics
