If one does their own shopping I do not think they will see it as under control.
But Donny tells us that he has “licked inflation”…..but sadly that is another of his wild accusations that just does not hole water…..
President Donald Trump has declared inflation “solved” as Americans are paying more for everyday goods like gas and groceries.
“I’ve already solved inflation,” Trump told “Fox & Friends” on Friday morning. “Costs are down.”
The president went on to boast, “I’ve solved just about every problem.”
But statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor show Americans are paying more—in some cases far more—at the pump and at the checkout line.
“Inflation inched higher last month as Americans closed out the summer paying more for both groceries and gasoline,” NPR reported on Thursday. “Consumer prices in August were up 2.9% from a year ago, according to a report Thursday from the Labor Department. That’s a sharper annual increase than the previous month, when inflation was clocked at 2.7%.”
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Donald Trump vowed to lower prices “on day one.”
Yet, due in part to his sweeping tariffs, “Virtually all major grocery categories are now more expensive than they were a year ago, some substantially so,” according to Axios. “This was the biggest month-over-month increase since August 2022, the tail end of a year of huge monthly increases in grocery prices.
Overall, the cost of groceries in August was up 0.6% over July’s prices, and the price of gas jumped 1.9% in just one month, according to NPR.

“He has solved almost every problem?
Which ones are those?
My wallet does not agree with the outright lie…..how about yours?
The inflation report was not the only troubling economic indicator, however.
The BLS also revealed that jobless claims in the US jumped to 263,000 last week, which was significantly higher than the 235,000 claims expected by economists. Joe Weisenthal, the co-host of the Bloomberg “Odd Lots” podcast, noted that this was the highest total for weekly jobless claims in nearly four years.
Long also flagged the worrying jobless claims number and predicted that it was just the start of a further downturn in the US economy.
“‘Cost cutting’ is back among CEOs and that is corporate speak for more layoffs,” she said. “It’s going to be a rough few months ahead as the tariffs impacts work their way through the economy. Americans will experience higher prices and (likely) more layoffs.”

Now the Fed sees this rise in inflation and word is they will lower interest rates at their next meeting to try and stave off any thoughts of a recession.
But not to worry Donny has all this well in hand.
BULLOCKS!

“lego ergo scribo”
It’s amazing that he lies so blatantly and doesn’t get called out on it by reporters or interviewers. I am aware that he has removed a lot of journalists from the White House press briefings, but surely there must be some over there with the guts to call him a barefaced liar?
Best wishes, Pete.
I find all of this difficult to believe also, Pete. It’s like almost half of the people in the country are living in some kind of alternate universe.
There are those but unfortunately they are on the fringe for now….few people bother to check the outrageous lies he tells…..chuq
Many of the reporters and interviewers are working for companies whose owners either support Trump (politically and/or financially), or are afraid of what he’ll do to them if they don’t support him.
Tarrifs are geared to make exporters at least lower prices if they wish to sell products and we need some strategies to correct unfavorable balance of trade. That should enable American consumer having to pay less for products. China has certainly imposed a trade war against US for decades so it is natural our citizens will suffer somewhat as trade war affects us all just as WW II affected eveyone in our economy for those years. No one can escape the impact. That being said, I find inflation increases a very frequent matter as prices on everything from increases for food, insurances, utilities , medical, challenge us even for a book of stamps. This seems a permanant curse no matter what economic policies we develop and nothing done by our government seems to relieve this curse so the promise of fixing consumer price increase will never really reduce much consumer price increase stress. Seems grocereis increase almost every week esp for us retirees and low income earners. There isn’t much of anything I can cut from a mere household budget to try to stay afloat. Doing with less and even without is a fact of life. Stop blaming Trump. Inflation will ALWAYS win.
Sorry Carl Donny is in the drivers seat so it is his economy….importers pay the tariffs not the exporters….that means you pay for the tariffs…and that is on Donny. chuq
Yes, correct, importers pay the tariffs. This forces the exporters to lower prices to make exports affordable and neutralize importer tarrifs which helps American consumer. If exporters open factories and businesses on US soil and hire Americans then the tarrifs will be removed. We have to do something re rip off trade agreements. Have any suggestions ? Tarrifs disappear if importer produces here at home and we don’t import then we do not pay any tariffs. That’
s the whole point. Dems bitch about prices hurting us yet have no plan to reduce the advantages of those from whom we import. They also design all kinds of obstacles to inhibit home production esp Green Fake Deal. I heard California will soon place restrictions on and also tax humans for breathing.
Carl that is your answer to everything…Dems did it…how very simplistic. YOU pay for the tariffs….and so far there has been little lower prices….but you can defend I am sure the GOP approves. chuq
Whether inflation is under control or not is a matter of perspective and it depends entirely on your socioeconomic position in the societal hierarchy. It’s not rocket science…If you are filthy rich, you care nothing at all about inflation….If you are average or poor, Inflation is a matter of life and death sometimes …
The numbers effect all classes….may not hurt the Robber Barons…..chuq
Lobotero: I blame the dems ? I’ll also blame republicans if appropriate. Can you tell me ONE single thing the dems have done to reduce inflation ? Come on, just ONE thing. Their war against fossil fuels guarantees inflation will persist. The entire economic structure of the US revolves around transportation.
Of course no one can because it is about money not need. Food prices, Housing, etc is leading inflation not gas prices so to use the attack on any policy to make oil accountable is disingenuous…..chuq
“I’ve solved just about every problem.” He’s delirious.
Nope just a liar that many accept as truth….’can’t fix stupid’ chuq
