There is a report in the latest edition of the Atlantic magazine…..it seems that the president calls deceased soldiers as “losers” and “suckers”…..
When President Donald Trump canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018, he blamed rain for the last-minute decision, saying that “the helicopter couldn’t fly” and that the Secret Service wouldn’t drive him there. Neither claim was true.
Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed.
Belleau Wood is a consequential battle in American history, and the ground on which it was fought is venerated by the Marine Corps. America and its allies stopped the German advance toward Paris there in the spring of 1918. But Trump, on that same trip, asked aides, “Who were the good guys in this war?” He also said that he didn’t understand why the United States would intervene on the side of the Allies.
Just the hint of disrespect for our troops and veterans would be political fatal….so why is this acceptable today? But I guess those days are gone to be replaced by hateful speech and Tweets.
Apparently Trump hates some vets….especially those that died in service to their country….if you will recalled his comments about Sen. McCain during the 2016 election cycle…..and by “logical truth” (For god sake look it up!) if you are a Trump supporter then you will disrespect veterans as well.

I’m torn about this report. On the one hand I respect The Atlantic and absolutely believe this story as the comments detailed echo ones he’s made on camera. On the other hand, these anonymous sources need to suck it up and go on record. Or as CNN’s Brian Selter said: “They need to put up or shut up!”
Maybe they saw what happens to those that are brave and step up……chuq
I understand the sacrifice involved, but there’s too much at stake. At the very least, John Kelly needs to confirm what happened with the visit to his son’s grave.

The news just broke that through the Department of Defense he’s also defunding the Stars and Stripes newspaper.
Makes sense …..the service people are not in his column……so defund their voice. chuq

If this is true, and I suspect it is, then I hope it gets a lot of publicity. I also believe he was more worried about his hair than anything else.

I don’t know if the allegations are true of course, but it’s in keeping with his character and rhetoric. Trump has used service members as capping props more than any other candidates that I can remember.
That alone tells me how little he regards the military.
It is a shame……that he still has supporters when just 4 years ago it would be the kiss of political death….even it it were not true…..chuq

My sense is that they have a very cynical, pessimistic view of humanity outside of their very small community. They cannot fathom that a democrat could be a nice person. Intellectually they can grasp it–but they can not grasp it spiritually.
For those who are not spiritual–this makes no sense, whatsoever–but these are people who filter everything through their sense of spirituality and that part of their spirituality is woefully underdeveloped.
