Are Dems Moving In The Right Direction?

The round of recent elections have found Dems in the cat bird seat……but does this mean that 2018 will go their way?

Personally , I think that the Dems are reading too much into their recent wins…..The LA progressive has seen this phenom pretty mush as I have……

The base is critical to victory — and it wants to move left. If you’re a Democrat, there’s a name for that unfamiliar emotion you were feeling last Tuesday night. It’s called happiness. But there is a serious risk that the party will draw the wrong lessons from last week’s results.

Here are seven important lessons from the November 7 results that a lot of Democrats seem to have missed.

The DNC has done yet another autopsy and their findings are not all that encouraging…..

• Aggregated data and analysis show that policies, operations and campaign priorities of the national Democratic Party undermined support and turnout from its base in the 2016 general election. Since then, the Democratic leadership has done little to indicate that it is heeding key lessons from the 2016 disaster.

• The Democratic National Committee and the party’s congressional leadership remain bent on prioritizing the chase for elusive Republican voters over the Democratic base: especially people of color, young people and working-class voters overall.

• After suffering from a falloff of turnout among people of color in the 2016 general election, the party appears to be losing ground with its most reliable voting bloc, African-American women. “The Democratic Party has experienced an 11 percent drop in support from black women according to one survey, while the percentage of black women who said neither party represents them went from 13 percent in 2016 to 21 percent in 2017.”

The Dems in my opinion still do not have a message other than “not Trump”……I think it will take more to win a deciding victory in 2018 other than “Not Trump”

  1. Even loss of tiny % of minority and women will kill them as working class white males will come out en masse again. Dems are moving so far to left they are losing independents and conservative democrats and as you say never Trump not enough. Bernie and Elizabeth rally the snowflakes but scare sensible voters. The football kneeling has made Trump a huge winner in the culture war, patriotism is a solid republican thing as well as pro military. That’s the ticket for more winning republicans. Seems main concern of dems is to fight for some jerk man in a dress wanting to use the ladies room. Not much of a banner I would say. Keeping companies here and bringing companies based overseas home will continue to increase employment rates and success Asia trip is in Japan, China, South Korea agreed invest billions in US for manufacturing here creating more jobs.Every job created begins the upward spiral creating at least 3 more jobs. The car dealership returns, a few restaurants reopen, some shops return to the ghost town mall, some department stores return, housing market and new homes and therefore construction jobs and so forth. Jobs will bring out votes republicans.

Big dem victories ? Nonsense. They win in the big cities where republicans have no chance and are solid Hillary/Billary voters so dramatic wins are expected but do not define and pro dem trend.

    1. There was nothing accomplished in Asia so any jobs we get will be purely accidental. m Matters not Repub or Dem neither will take credit for jobs that never see….chuq

      1. WOW. I thought a great deal was accomplished by the trip. Let the whole region know we are committed to their security, will not tolerate military escalation by NK and if he stood right near DMZ certainly as momentous and defiant as JFK in Berlin. Plus selling tons military hardware to SK and Japan has both military and political repercussions in the region. Japan is also on the brink in changing its constitution to allow themselves to rearm with offensive weapons not merely have a system for defense. If Japan, China and SK will open more plants in US to manufacture here as was agreed that certainly means a substantial increase in jobs !

      2. THat is about it it the NK thing….everyone thinks they are dicks. China has pushed back on his trip saying they never agreed to any of the things he says they did….Japan was bullied into buying more weapons……we will see just how many jobs all this creates…my guess is very little. chuq

  2. I have felt the same way. It’s a nagging thought in the background that this election win chest thumping is just a simple win in a greater battle to be fought. The Dems are no more organized than the GOP; both in a damn mess. I am guessing if the Dems win in 2018 it will only be on the inertia of “dump Trump” than ideology. But.. if that’s the road to winning I suppose, what the hell. A win is a win. The tragedy is that the ideology can be the glue to making the win long term.

  3. I can’t understand the reluctance of China to bridle NK. The revenue from trade with NK has to be relevantly insignificant. Or is NK their proxy to instill military fear and insecurity in the region without it seeming to originate from China itself. Then there is Russia – all are potential targets from NK nukes . Why does Russia think having a nuked up Iran a good idea ? There is Islamic nationalism growing in all the “stans” south of Russia. If Iran wants to extend influence and territory through their brand of Islamic hegemony(think ancient Persia, they are) then Russia is not safe or at least puts itself in the positions to make concessions and capitulations. Is Russia so insecure having Syria its only Islamic alley in the region that it would think joining Iran is an extension of their influence ?

    1. Right now Turkey, Iran and Russia are working with Syria on a peace plan…..Turkey and Iran are snuggling up to each other…..China stays on NK good side they worry about nothing so they will talk but do little….chuq

  4. In my experience, most moderates who suffer defeat in an election tend to move closer to the policies of the party that defeated them. I predict a move to the Right in America, by all parties.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Sounds about right…they is where the Bluer Dog Dems came from…..I hope we are mistaken this time… ideas is the only thing that will save this country…..chuq

      1. I mean agree with Pete. Now what does progressive mea ? . If it means the social justice and equal opportunity of early 20th century then I’m on board. The republican mantra of “lower taxes, less government, more freedom” seems pretty shallow and meaningless to me. It’s a big country. A lot of things have to be done. You need a lot of government. As opposed to Reagan, government in not the problem but a big government is necessary but one free of cronyism, nepotism, corruption, special interest domination and redundancy is the answer.
