Are You Ready For 2020?

Let me be one of the first to come at you with 2020 election news (is that a heavy sigh I hear?)……no need to worry about the Repubes for if Donald makes it 4 years he will want to extend his autocratic rule….that leaves the Dems.

Who will be the man/woman of the hour?  Sanders? NO!  Warren?  She is making a case and extending her exposure…so maybe.  But let’s look outside the “popular” Dems shall we?

One school of thought among Democrats is that they should borrow from the book of Trump and go with more of a celebrity than a traditional politician in 2020. Well, how about a little bit of both? At the National Journal, Josh Kraushaar makes the case for Al Franken as a viable contender. The 65-year-old Saturday Night Live alum seems to be finding his groove in the Senate, having emerged as one of the “most aggressive and effective questioners” of President Trump’s Cabinet nominees. Expect that to continue with Supreme Court pick Neil Gorsuch. Franken, though, has learned to balance his toughness with levity, and his authentic self is emerging after years of keeping things closer to the vest, writes Kraushaar.

True, his “deeply liberal politics” might not fly with moderate voters, but Franken has done something that Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have not: proven he can “win support outside the most progressive precincts.” He easily won re-election in 2014 while other Democrats struggled nationwide, and he did so with the support of working-class residents in rural areas—a group that propelled Trump to victory. In fact, he shares some of the president’s views on trade issues, having fought for tariffs against Chinese steel. “This is Al Franken’s moment in the spotlight,” writes Kraushaar, “and if he chooses, he could parlay his good fortune into a bid for the presidency in 2020.” Click for the full column.

Really?

Why not?  We have had a former actor and have a reality star….so why not a former comedian?

Only a matter of time before the news cycle starts naming names and bombarding the viewer with endless mind numbing coverage….I just wanted to one of the first…..you may hate me later…LOL

  1. I can’t even imagine Al Franken being a serious presidential candidate. Were it not for the so far left they are about to fall off the planet he would not be in congress . I place him alongside Sanders, a good man but not electable. We meed to find a moderate to go up
Against the radical right. We need to start in 2018 to clean the swamp created by the fanatical right and tea party, until then we are as shut out as Sen Warren was by mcConnell. A despicable act of tyranny and easily construed as misogyny as later on men were allowed to speak her words. Lets actually select a winnable and reasonable candidate for 2020 or we will be giving him ( who is not my pres) 4 more years to rule us, by then we may be under a dictatorship never to return to the America we believe in.

  2. Yep, Liz Warren 2020. This republican will vote for her. Oh she has some crazy left wing ideas but she’ll put the hammer to the megacorps and megabanks and support labor unions which will bring blue collar back to democrats. She does not have the baggage of HillaryBillary either.

      1. Agreed, Tulsi Gabbard seems to be making some headway into the realm of serious contention for 2020. If she sticks to her current positions and continues to listen to her voters, she’s going to be a force to be reckoned with.

  3. Hell, I wonder if it would be possible to find a super-centrist, somebody not “left’ or “right”. Doubt they’d get elected because of the polarization and all, but that’d be a damned interesting campaign. I’d be a happy clam if the congress went for nothing but Moderates/Centrists for supreme court nominations. As in the middle as you can get. Now THAT would be the closest to apolitical in the supreme court as you can get.

We’re in a pendulum swing to the extremes, it was to the left, now it’s to the right, and though some people I know say “Dump’s not a true Republican, so don’t worry,” he’s put a lot of the worst of them into power, and they ain’t gonna let go even if he get’s sick of the job and resigns. Gah!

People forget they’re not just electing a president, they’re electing everyone he appoints…and I think they just got a reminder real quick.

  4. TV stars and actors have no place in politics. You could take this populist argument to its logical conclusion, and ask Taylor Swift to stand, or maybe Beyonce? Then the media could report about their clothes, hair styles, and make-up, and the people could just forget all about politics and enjoy the show.
They could even sing their own inauguration anthem…
    Regards, Pete.
