Did you know that there are people living in this country that do not have proper representation in Congress….I know the way the Congress is these days…do any of us have representation?
That joke aside….the people of the nation’s capital only have an observer in Congress…..but there is the possibility that that will change soon……
America could have a new state called New Columbia by this time next year if voters in Washington, DC, choose statehood this fall and Congress allows it. The name—first chosen during a statehood bid in 1982—was approved this week by a statehood commission that included Mayor Muriel Bowser and Paul Strauss, who is one of DC’s two “shadow senators,” reports the Washington Post. Strauss admitted that he isn’t a “super fan” of the name. “We decided to keep what had been part of the statehood legacy since 1982,” he said. “If the voters of the new state want to change it, that’s going to be a great thing they can do as a free state.”
Runner-up names at the 1982 statehood convention included Potomac, Anacostia, Capital State, and the State of Utopia. The Washingtonian reports that at the statehood commission meeting this week, there was applause when DC resident Travis Swanson said the US has “sugarcoated the history of Christopher Columbus” and he doesn’t deserve to be honored with a star on the American flag. Swanson suggested the state name “Douglass Commonwealth,” which would honor anti-slavery leader Frederick Douglass and allow DC to remain DC. (President Obama says he supports DC statehood.)

Rather than creating a new state, I’d rather we return most of D.C. to Maryland. The other half of the original district was returned to Virginia years ago. FYI …

The whole country could be divided into 7 UN-mandated regions instead of the various states too … and I think it is in the works as the Global Government is in the birth pangs.
What part of that is about DC finally getting the representation they deserve? Or did I miss something?
D.C., will get no better representation if this happens than the rest of us.
You may be correct…but at least they will have representation something they have not now…
Their representatives will probably be more elitist and arrogant than those of any of the rest of us because they might get the notion into their heads that representing the people living in the capital should be entitled to more power and I think those who represent D.C., will feel more privileged, more above the law more of everything that is wrong with our current government … it will not be a pretty sight.
I agree but I still say that as long as the people are stupid enough to vote for them then at least it was a vote and not some appointment crap….
People’s votes only count for something in a direct democracy. In our set up those votes can be stolen by the electoral college, the supreme court, voter ID laws, all kinds of crooked dealings. The common person no longer has a voice in a government where the representatives feel it is their will and not the will of the people that amounts to anything… so no it is not a vote … it is a sham … a pretense … an illusion.
Of course it is a sham and that has been said for decades but all of a sudden everybody is on board….which will quickly erode away as soon as they elect someone they can support…matters not from which class they emerge….I cannot wait to see how long this will last…it will depend on this election…..
The American Voters have incredibly short attention spans, a rather limited political cognition and … for the most part … incredibly expansive asses. (Check it out in any super market setting.)
No need to keep trying to convince me…I agree…..and I agree that the song will change depended on who gets elected…..fortunately I do NOT have a short attention span and will let everyone know it at the appropriate time….
Personally I have decided it no longer pays to try to fight the system so I have adopted a more or less I don’t give a s**t attitude … I love to blog controversy however because I love to stir the crap — to make people at least try to think — but my agenda is unstable and can change on the turn of a spinning dime. My blogging is usually all for effect and for ego relief … as most anyone can tell if they stop to think about it. I guess in many ways I could be considered to be either (1) a fraud or (2) an entertainer or (3) an irritant depending on who is looking and listening at any given moment in time.
I refuse to give up for that would admit defeat and I am never defeated….I am anxious for the election…it will be great fun
The result will be no different than it has ever been … the people will think they have spoken and they won’t have said a word and the corruption will continue and continue to build upon itself.

It all depends on how the peon class perceives the administration serving or ignoring their visceral self concerns.
I will wait to see how the babbling class has to say after the election….it’s gonna be good…

New logos, new sports teams, new ways to sell crap to people, to foster the divisiveness that any sort of identifying with a place, city, state, or nation will produce automatically…. The fact that the capital city of the United States (the self-proclaimed patent holder of Freedom & Democracy) essentially functions as a colony of the US Empire is…if not symbolic…certainly ironically funny.
But Washington DC isn’t the only colony of the US Empire. DC actually fairs better than most of the others. Long after holding colonies fell “out of fashion”, America STILL retains 5 other colonies! (Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.) They have varying levels of autonomy, but are all possessions of the US Empire. While “Americans”, their citizens have no say in Washington DC, itself a territory.
