My last post of the day is about something that I have been writing about for months now. This situation is very indicative of our society and the direction it is traveling….
I have had conversations on here and around my part of the country and I have said that America has lost all sense of community and nation……I feel that Americans now would step over a neighbor if it somehow benefited them….of course most responses have something to do with perceived attacks….like the bad guys are hiding in the sewers just waiting to march down Main Street….
Last weekend was Easter and I found a report that sort of illustrates what I feel America has come to…….
This is why we can’t have nice Easter egg hunts, kids: Your pushy parents. An Easter egg hunt organizer said the alleged adults in the crowd acted “kind of like locusts” and turned the hunt into a shoving match at the Pez candy company. Saturday’s event in Orange, Conn., drew hundreds of people, some of whom couldn’t quite abide by the rules or the starting time, reports the AP. Pez General Manager Shawn Peterson told WFSB-TV that people “rushed the field and took everything.” Event organizers placed more than 9,000 eggs on three fields with the intention of having staggered start times for each age group. But Pez officials say parents didn’t wait. No injuries were reported.
Pez released this statement: “We made efforts to get everyone something before they left and passed out tons of candy and coupons and the front entry and tried to make the best of an unfortunate situation. Due to the actions of a few, the good intent quickly turned into a mess. I would like to sincerely apologize to each of our guests, this was not something created to frustrate or make people angry. We only wanted to do good for the local community,”
An Easter egg hunt is for children…….if adults are willing to stampede over children to gain a few colored eggs what would they be willing to do in an emergency?
Very telling on where this society is going. This is pathetic!
O h yes we are in the era of me and me only. I think because everything sucked out of our hands by 100%
I blame that damn “ME” generation…
I agree but I think it’s beyond that. People feel they have to get a piece of something before it is all gone. More self preservation than selfishness.
Apparently I am too old……I was taught better than that….
This one can be explained by merely referring once again to the “rats in too-small a cage” experiment, showing how overpopulation leads to exactly what you refer to as loss of community. I used to see hints of it when coaching Little League for my kids, years ago. Some of the parents were incredibly stupid and rude… mostly just embarrassing for their kids, who hated it…
Pathetic is the correct term, too….
gigoid
I just cannot imagine getting that excited about colored eggs….but then I am smarter than an amoeba….chuq
Yeah, a real sign of the times. Greedy little out-of-control fuckers with no sense of self-control or civility….and that’s just the parents! (To be fair, I’m sure desperation played a part.) I often think the term “parent” should even be used anymore, it’s been so devalued.
But another angle is also a classic “sign of the times”. From the photos, the “hunt” was more like laying thousands of eggs in plain view in a small area with competitive parents being able to see it all. (Big mistake with riot potential!) But as with everything else these days, the kids wouldn’t have to earn anything. No clever hiding places. No skills getting rewarded. Make it ridiculously simple….and “Trophies for everyone!!!” In fact, the kids who somehow failed to spot and obtain an egg were promised candy just for being there. The organizers would have been better off just handing a bag of eggs/candy directly to every kid. (But that’s socialism.) Some “hunt”!
These days, everybody feels entitled to everything they want without, not just having to earn it, but even just following the damn rules! Which were far too easy in the first place. Our species is rapidly devolving to the point of being indistinguishable from chimps with head injuries.
I think I would trust the chimps more
