Since the War on Terror was called out I have been fascinated on the term…..I know it is semantics…..but terror is a weapon not an actually “army”…..watching the media with a rational eye will show people that there is a wealth of propaganda in most reports……my feeling is this is a war that cannot be won…..just lessened in some form or another…..
I read this article and wanted to press it so that my readers could see another side of the argument….if you will…..
Source: The Deceptive Debate Over What Causes Terrorism Against the West
Chest thumping is getting us nowhere…..it is all so much slogans and applause lines but no real tactics have emerged from all this bolstering….we can spend billions on top of billions and be no closer to a resolution to the problem….maybe it is time for the “leaders” to step back and take a hard look at the big picture….
Any thoughts?
Cut the snake off at the roots and it will not bite after the sun goes down and stop being afraid to put a “Name” to the problem.
you may call it whatever snaps the girdle…the problem is that it was never a fight that was fought to win…..name it is just an way to divert attention….
Americans tend to call many things ‘war on’
Prohibition, you could call that war on alcohol. The same intensity you would find in the Mccarthy era: War on communisme. Then the war on drugs and than the war on terror. The common denominator was/is that it made the situations worse. It endorsed crime, or it did ruin careers, or it was responsible for a great disregard of human rights. War on, means you oppress or suppress something. That means that a counter reaction will occur. It just doesn’t work. It creates more problems that it solves
Americans and pragmatism is something that is difficult to mix.
You are so right in this….sadly most Americans need something to be at war with….chuq
