Well for me the day of rage is just about every day when you see the political games and cowardly acts of our “respected” Washington representatives……but in this case I am talking about a protest that was called for this past weekend……I waited for the report of it from the mainstream media….and I waited…..and I waited….kinda like that plane to Lisbon……
Remember when they were going to have the debt ceiling vote in Washington and Bachmann held her press conference and asked the people in attendance if she should vote NO?…..Remember? The news report showed all of 12 people standing under some event umbrella and all weakly said….NO!
I bring this up to ask if those 12 people constituted a news story why is not 50,000 one?
In a story in Politics USA by Jason Easley……
Most Americans are being kept in the dark about the US Day of Rage by the corporate cable news giants at CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC who have imposed a de facto blackout on the protest.
Even though estimates have varied from hundreds to as many as 50,000 protesters flooded into Manhattan and others cities to take part in events around the country to, “nonviolently disrupt the disloyal, incompetent, and corrupt special interests which have usurped our nation’s civil and military power, spawning a host of threats to our liberty, lives and national security,” the three cable news networks have devoted no airtime to the story.
This is becoming an all too familiar scene. In Wisconsin hundreds of thousands of regular people took to the streets each weekend to protest the theft of their rights, and were completely ignored by CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC.
We keep hearing people like Palin and Bachmann and Perry and any other of the Teabaggers bitch about the MSM…..but this is just another reason that their bitching is just ginned up crap. And why would the media NOT report on this protest? (I know the answer but do others)…..if there is ever some sort of uprising against the machine of state….they cannot count on the media to there reporting the real news….
Now you see why I say that bloggers are the best way to get info….even if I do not agree with them…I trust them more than the mainstream media.
I fear the corporate hand is at play here and will always and forever now become something that affects that once great ally of the people, the 4th estate, and what they report on.
Larry, so true……there is NO linger such a thing as “fair and balanced” in news reporting……they drive the debate rather than reporting it….I still get better news from Reuters and BBC than anything in our corporate media…..
Was this of any surprise given that Republicans got three times more coverage during the Obamacare debate?
Terrant like I said Bachmann got more coverage with 12 people telling her to NOT vote to raise the debt ceiling……corporate media drives our society……looks like Gramsci was right back in the 1920’s…..
I wish I could be shocked, but I’m not. Especially with the influence they have on the media. And unless you’re loud and disruptive (*cough* Tea Party *cough*), you’re not newsworthy.
Spinny, but the protesters are being loud and still they are ignored…….
I think the MSM is in love with the Tea Party. That said, I’m not surprised that people protesting corporations wouldn’t be covered by media outlets controlled by corporationss.
One of the big stories of the day…is that the govt spends lots on muffins…..I can see where that would be a bigger story than all those protesters (sarcasm)
You know as I think about this more. I think they did the protest wrong. They should have been packing heat and carrying signs about the tree of liberty needing watered. You would then be assured that they would have got the media’s attention.
Terrant the cops arrested two guys for covering electronics with a trap….I think the media would still ignore…..they do not want a mass movement like the 60’s and if no one sees it then the idea is not that popular……look at today’s news……book about Obama, Boehner accusing of class war, Palestinian statehood, …none of this is anything the people need to know about…and there is the point…if it is not reported then it is not happening……
I was trying to be snarky there :).
But yes, there is definitely bias in the media. However, it is neither liberal or conservative, it is pro-corporation. If you peel back all of the layers, the only differences between the two sides are the corporations that are backing them. Since this protest did not have backing of a corporation, it did not get any attention.
And there is the sad part……keeping info and news from the American people…..does that not violate something somewhere?
Lobotero…
Yep. Four people and a polar bear attend a Sarah Palin rally and it’s on every major news channel, but when thousands of regular people are protesting big business, they’re ignored. Wonderful.
Terrance, this is why I say if you want real news try Reuters or the BBC……and the polar bear left early…..
