Take Our Country Back!

College of Political Knowledge

2010/2012 Election Series

Lecture #2

Speech after speech…speaker after speaker…..for many years now…have used the term “take our country back” as some sort of rallying cry….usually around election time…there is this urgency to lather the populace up to force them into action…..particularly in voting for one party or the other….

But a few questions come to mind….like…..take the country back from whom?  Or just who is it that stole the country?  Just who the Hell stole the country?

Are these politicos suggesting that the American people have stolen the country?  If they are, I am sure that the American people would be interested in hearing how they did that……would it be by voting?  Or maybe they are referencing the politicians, our voices in Washington….sad to say they stole the whole pie years ago….but all that aside who are “they” saying stole the country?

When Bush II was the president, I heard some of these rumblings from the Left and now it seems to be those on the Right rumbling about those darn pesky progressives or liberals, depending on which adjective one would prefer to describe those on the so-called Left.

So right now, it is still up in the air just who are the dastardly people that have stolen our country….and the song goes on….speech after speech….speaker after speaker….all bitching about the theft of the country…..

Please, if you have some inside information on the theft of our country…share it with the rest of us…..most thinking people are at a loss for words on this theft and like me, they would like to know who the culprit/s are……..

Yet another campaign slogan that has no foot in reality…only in the minds of those that have no idea what they want from the government…..they may be against big government, but what does that mean?  They may be against wasteful government programs, but which ones are those?  Where does this type of yellow political games stop?

Apparently the American voter wants slogans with NO substance over solutions to real problems……

  1. Yes it’s a nice “open to interpretation”, not too specific and catchy slogan that most people can identify with. of course, it’s a different interpretation that different individuals do that (identify) with, but there is in my opinion some justification…

The truth is that most people DO want their country back – from the f*cking government – ANY government. Of course, it’s different governments stealing different things from different people, but the reality is MOST people HATE goverrment – ALL government for many reasons and it IS, in fairness, the more extreme parts of both the left and the right that are the problem and make the general population feel that the country has gone too far (to the left OR the right).

    1. I agree that most people hate the government and that never changes even when the politics change…the problem I have is that the way it is used is NOT helpful in turning the country around…no matter who sits on the throne….IMO, nothing has been stolen especially the country….I disagree with a lot of people but I still believe that the process works basically….yes it needs some work but it still is the best way to do things….the way some use this slogan sounds more like they want ONE party and that will save us….I think not….

      1. I see your point and I’m quite sure that any ONE side will not solve the problem except for a small miniority.

However, that’s where you and I disagree – I think the system DOESN’T work at the most basic level and that’s because the system has weaknesses that vested interests (on both sides of the political divide) exploit along with pressure groups and minority interests. Thus a large majority of people see their country as having been “hijacked” by one extreme, or faction, or another and they quite reasonably “want it back”.

      2. Hiya Quin…nice to see ya again…..I understand what you are saying….but (ha there it is) this term is used to make it sound like the country has been physically taken…..I have a hard time with this one because after all if the majority (even if they are misinformed and vote stupidly) are still the majority…after all they are my fellow countrymen and I can only hope that they remove the cranial area of the their body from their anal opening……the system is NOT working well, at least the Fed system we have, and eventually the country will realize that the pinheads they elect are nothing but opportunists and con artists……We can do better…but will we?

      3. Is “the country” more just a piece of land, or the product of society that lives in it and in theory at least welds it into some kind of cohesive unit?

To answer your question – probably not…

      4. Morning…..the term is being batted around by the Tea Party…..and I am guessing that Dems have somehow stolen the country…I may not like the election process as it is, but stolen? No way….
