Is This What We Are Fighting For?

We are in Afghanistan for almost 10 years and things are NOT going so well…….we fight…we die…and this is what we are there for….

A man and a woman who allegedly had an adulterous affair have been stoned and killed in the northern Afghan province of Kunduz.

The punishment happened in a crowded bazaar on Sunday in the Taliban-controlled village of Mullah Quli.

The Taliban asked the villagers to attend the stoning through an announcement on loudspeakers in the mosque, two witnesses from Mullah Quli told the BBC.

“There was a big crowd of people,” one said.

“The Taliban made the women wear black clothes and the men were made to stand. The Taliban started throwing stones. We were also asked to throw stones. After a while, the Taliban left. The woman was dead but the man was still alive.

The Taliban operates a shadow government, consisting of judges, tax collectors, district governors and commanders, in several parts of Kunduz, he adds.

the Taliban were seeking to create and exploit a power vacuum, and some are urging the government and the ostensibly pro-government Council of Ulema (religious scholars) to take a stronger stance against extremism.  So far that has been a hollow dream….

Remind me again why we are in the country……and how our presence there will change things for the people for the better…….

    1. Well……where to begin….lol

We could stay in Afghanistan for the next 100 yrs (and we probably will) and we could NEVER bring the country into the 21st century…..so why are we there? Something about we, the US, do not lose in war or something equally as absurd…

      1. Hmm… define “lose”. If you want a more detailed opinion, check out my reply (post) to your next post on Iraq.

But why those in power – and more importantly those BEHIND those in power (the puppet-masters) do what they do – God alone knows and, even if I believed in Him (Her?), He is not saying…

        😈

      2. The failure to get your enemy to surrender…….since terror is NOT anything but a tactic……victory will be hard to achieve ……..

      3. Yeah. Good point. Seems to me that, in more and more of the recent conflicts in which the US has been involved, the “terrorist”, or at least some faction of the population using hit and run tactics, is the actual REAL enemy. With that in mind, since you can’t even identify who a large proportion of your enemy is, how the hell COULD you ever win?

      4. Exactly! There is NO way to win a war on a tactic! But the American believe that the US will win the war on terror….delusional batch humans…….another thing….look at every war the US has had since WW2…..everyone has been against brown skin people….coincidence?

      5. Another thing I like to bitch about…an American flies a plane into the IRS building in Calif…..and he is a disgruntled person…but if it had been a Muslim then it would have been a terrorists attack by a home-grown terrorist…this is one reasons that Am. Muslims say they are being used to foment hate……and it is a good argument…..

      6. Yes it’s always a problem – just the same as one man’s terrorist is another’s freedom fighter – it depends on your attitudes and affiliations…

That said, I’m afraid I couldn’t in all conscience blame anyone for taking a swipe at the taxman 😆

      7. So true…..I even dated a brunette (did not last she was not a red head) that was an agent for the IRS….a disaster!
