Israeli air raids have pounded the Gaza Strip for a third day, hitting key sites linked to militant group Hamas.
Foreign minister Tzipi Livni said Israel was determined to “change realities” in Gaza, amid expectations it might launch a ground invasion.
Three hundred Palestinians, including 56 civilians, are reported to have died since Saturday. In Israel, a second person was killed by a militant rocket.
Gaza’s interior ministry and Islamic University are the latest targets.
Other centres of Hamas strength, including security compounds, government offices and tunnels into Egypt, have been hit since Israel started its massive bombing campaign on Saturday morning.
At the UN, the Security Council joined international calls for restraint by urging an end to all violence between Israel and Gaza.
The US, Israel’s strongest ally on the council, said the onus was on Hamas to stop rocket fire.
Israel says Palestinian militants have fired more than 110 rockets from the coast territory since Saturday.
The strikes began on Saturday less than a week after the expiry of a six-month-long ceasefire deal with Hamas.
On Sunday, rockets landed in Ashdod, Israel’s largest southern city – which is 38km (23 miles) away – the deepest strikes inside Israel from Gaza so far, Israeli media said. No injuries were reported.
This is to take advantage of the good weather instead of going for picnic instead they go and destroy universities and civilian houses killing 5 children from the same house, children are targeted and killed in the name at the hand of the butchers of Tel Aviv the Pharaohs and the modern day Hitler.
Hussein, thanx for the comment…I appreciate your input. As I have commented on the original post, that the “war” has become an institution on both sides of the border. Someone, anyone has got to stand up and demand that this insanity stop.
I am not saying that one side is right or wrong…but civilians die on both sides….if uniform soldiers want to blow each others heads off then “go for it”, but civilians should NEVER be a target…collateral damage is not acceptable. Both sides of the conflict should be condemned if civilians are targeted.
Lobotero, Who dosnt agree on this? I agree with you , we all say spare the children for god sake.
The civilian police forces killed in the recent attacks were trained and funded by the international community only to be killed!! who will patrol the streets tomorrow after all of this is over?
Here’s a thought.
What’s the difference between a suicide bomber blowing himself up in a crowded market and a helicopter firing a missile at a car in a crowded market?
Answer: None, but one is condoned by our country.
Here is some other thoughts.
The correct answer is: those killed by the f-16 have a brother of the same family of the five kids who were slaughtered at dawn today, who will be left in despair, agony ,helpless and hopeless with nothing to do other than to enlist as a suicide bomber and blow himself up killing your loved ones (God forbid). what you plant today will harvest tomorrow, the cycle will never stop.
True, violence begets violence.
Guys Thanx for the comments…..
Hussien–sad that it always come to this…Hamas, unfortunately, has to be talked to in any negotiations—like it or not they were voted into office by the people and as such are the reps of those people.
Terrant–nice to see you again..IMO anytime you attack civilian spots then you are no longer a patriot or a hero, just a terrorist….whether condoned or not…..somewhere someone has got to show the ‘nads as the leader for peace.
Actually somebody here gave me an idea how to stop the cycle of violence.
It is based on the doNotCallList in US
where you indicate to Telemarketers that
you do not want to be part of their business.
How about to create two secure web lists in Switzerland.
Secure so Hamas can’t get at them.
The people of Gaza who do not want to support Hamas would register on
notTerrorist list.
The people of Gaza who support Hamas would register on
yesTerrorist list.
Then a third party would report how many people are on each list.
Then the Palestine would have two states, WestBank (for notTerrorist) and Gaza (for yesTerrorist).
I think this would solve any future problems, people who are not terrorists would not be bombed; people who support Hamas would get their wish.
Jerry……appreciate your in put….you propose an excellent idea—but how would the people in Gaza on the not list not be bombed along with the yes list? I like the idea of “money talks and BS walks” approach….we hit the money belt…..get the allies who are funding Gaza to just say no……get the ones that support Israel to just say no…and when they make nice the cash will flow once again…..but then how does one control what Iran does? It is a quandary. There has got to be a way to keep the studs from whipping out their tools….of destruction.
