Professor’s Political Classroom

Just thought I would use my blog to help people understand our political system and its many factions.  The first will be the reason why the is not a US Labor party.

Why No U.S. Labor Party?

Every country in the world, just about, has a labor party, but not the US and why
is that? I mean we have tons of workers, but they have no party. They have the
Democrats and if you think that is a labor party, youshould return to the 7th grade
and start over. The Dems just as the Repubics, are not a working person party,
they are a party of elites elected by the people to lead them into a better life.
ROFLMAO! Sorry, I could say that without laughing hardily.

Remember my "way back" machine? Let us step into it and go way back,
the year is 1900's, the early years. The Socialist Party is in its infantcy
and the workers are being crapped on regularly by the industrialists. What should
the workers do to assure themselves of representation?

Before we continue, let us look at the American worker of these days. Workers in
the US did not have to struggle with political oppression, as did their counterparts
in England and Europe. The workers in the Us had a complete faith in their political
system; the workers in US thought they had a special relationship with the state
and because of the relationship they did feel they needed a special party to assure
them of their political rights.

It is now 1901, The American Federation of Labor rejects the idea of a broad workers
base for political gain, instead, Samuel Gompers, pres of the AFL decided that the
workers needed an economic organization to lead them. He decided that an independent
working class political party would not help the worker and he, then decided the
the representation of the worker would be for economic reasons, like bread and butter
issues. The problem was that none of the membership of the AFL was consulted about
the decision, only they leaders made the decision for all the workers. Another
elitist leading the people into what they see as their future. The only winners
in this move were the owners of the means of production, the workers rolled snake
eyes.

Now after over 100 yrs of this type of representation, what has the worker acheived?
Not much, the trade unions only try to protect the worker from economic hardships,
while ignoring the political arena, where the worker should be focusing his efforts.
Because of Gompers decision a 100 yrs ago the worker is nothing but a tool to be
used by the capitalist sector and is exploited, with no political say other than
every 4 yrs and then it is a whisper, where it should be a scream.

New Light Bulbs And Health

we have all seen the new bulbs, those squiggly things that are butt ugly…..by a few years the bulbs that you use now will no longer be sold and we all will be forced to use the squiggly thingys.  So I thought I would get a jump on the mandatory use “law” and start buying them now…..GE should be happy they will make a butt load of money off of these…..I was gonna replace a bulb and open my new package and read the label……Do any of you realize that these bulbs contain mercury and that there is a warning label on the package?

What is my point?  After thinking it over, I wondered once the bulbs are mandatory and they will be showing up in masse in landfills, how long will it be until the mercury makes it to the water table?  How long will it take before the fish and wildlife are poisoned?  Then eventuall, how long before the neurological effects show up in humans, especially newborns?

My daughter ask me what the catch was when they first started pushing these new tyoes of bulbs…..at that time i did not have an answer….but now her question has been answered.

John Edwards: Gone But Not Forgotten

Has anyone else noticed that in the last month or so, Edwards positions on the working people have become more appealing to the 2 remaining candidates?  His speeches on empowering the working stiff has got more play recently.  Clinton has made his stands her own, especially the rhetoric about a gas tax holiday, jobs and who she is trying to sway–white, blue collar, low education rural voter.  The campaign put Bubba to work on that gig.

Bill has used the term “elitist” so many times referring to Obama that it became so redundant that he was boring, if Bubba could ever be boring.  The campaign wrote off the black vote and went to the Edwards ploy of trying to appeal to the white working class.  If Edwards could have appealed to the over 40 white women then he could have nmade it a bit further, but that would have meant a gender operation in Sweden.

Now that Hillary is all but eliminated, the gas tax holiday that was so important for a couple of days has died in the media.  Clinton loses and ther “good idea” is no longer news…,,cool huh?

Edwards came out just before the Indiana and North Carolina, and did not endorse a candidate.  He did however, found several things that he did not like about each candidate.  But he has got to be pleased that his so called “populist” message got out by one of his past opponents.

edwards has got to be pleased, but we will see if it was pandering by the candidates or if it is true.

Gas Tax Holiday–Revisited

I thought I had heard this proposal of McCain and Clinton before. Back in the day, 2000 to be exact, then Pres, Bill Clinton was given this idea to help the working class voter. Back then he would not go for the idea because he did not think it would benefit the consumer.

But yet on this campaign trail, he is defending the same proposal that he would not consider. The Clinton people are going all out in their pandering to the white, blue collar worker. Why? At this juncture it is politically advantageous.

Obama has opposed the idea. And lots of economists and other experts have said it would be disasterous for the economy. Because he opposes it, he is labeled an elitist which is pretty humorous if you think about it…an elitist calling an elitist an elitist…..i cannot write this joke any better.

I will give Obama his props–he is telling people what the NEED to hear, not what they WANT to hear. But apparently the people were listening to both sides and made a good choice in Indiana and North Carolina.

The good thing about this is that know that Hillary is all but eliminated, the news will probably let the support for the “holiday” drop. It will no lnoger be news until the general in November.

McCain On Judges

Today Jihn McCain went to North Carolina so that he could be in the news with the Dems after the primary.  His main reason was to go to Wake Forest University and talk about the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court.  How nice.

He made sure early in the speech to tell everyone what the founding fathers had in mind by setting up the three branches of government.  Ok, it was a bit like a 7th grade Civics class.  The 3 were there for the purpose of checks and balances–to be sure that no one branch would have more influence over the people than the other.

Again how nice?  But think about what was just said.  But every president wants to appoint Supreme Court judges that reflect the tone of the in power administration…right?

If that is, then would not that make two of the branches that were banded together against the third?  If true then where would the checks and balances be?  Does not the president appointing his favorite judges tend to flying in the face of separate branches of government?  Would not then the president would have a more powerful base from which to work?  Now, does that not fly into the face of the founding fathers?

Questions…..small answers.
