And Then The Rains Came

For week now the major story in the MSM has been the rains then flooding in Texas that has killed 100+ people and 150+ still missing presumed dead….there has been lots of back and forth on blame for this tragedy….there seems to be a wealth of misinformation in the saga so far….

I begin with an article in France24….

The catastrophic floods over the weekend have left more than a 100 people dead, including more than two dozen girls and counselors at a riverside summer camp, with rescuers racing on Tuesday to search for dozens of people still missing.

Multiple left-leaning accounts on the platform X peddled the unfounded claim that staffing cuts at the National Weather Service (NWS) by President Donald Trump’s administration had “degraded” its forecasting ability.

While the NWS, like other agencies, has experienced deep staffing and budget cuts under the Trump administration, experts say its forecasters rose to the challenge despite the constraints.

“There have been claims that (weather agencies) did not foresee catastrophic (Texas) floods — but that’s simply not true,” Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources, wrote on Bluesky.

Then as usual there is a wealth stupid coming from Donny and his minions….

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem renewed her call Wednesday to “eliminate” the Federal Emergency Management Agency calling it “slow to respond” to the deadly floods that have killed more than 120 people in Texas over the past week.

Multiple sources said Noem waited until Monday to authorize the deployment of these search and rescue teams, more than 72 hours after the flooding began. Aerial imagery to aid in the search was also delayed waiting for Noem’s approval.

Noem used these very delays to justify her calls to disband FEMA entirely.

“Federal emergency management should be state and locally led, rather than how it has operated for decades,” she said. “It has been slow to respond at the federal level. It’s even been slower to get the resources to Americans in crisis, and that is why this entire agency needs to be eliminated as it exists today, and remade into a responsive agency.”

https://www.commondreams.org/news/noem-fema-delays

A 72 hour delay in response time and then a call for an elimination of FEMA….was the delay [part of the pl;an to eliminate FEMA or just idiots playing golf and sipping martinis to be bothered with a response?

You tell me?

As suspect as this story is there was even more usual moronic blame being passed around….as usual it will be the Dems fault that this even took place….

Rightwing podcaster and influencer Charlie Kirk has claimed the death toll from the Texas floods “would not have been as high if it wasn’t for” diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Kirk made the comments during his program on Real America’s Voice, saying, “The Democrats are so despicable. The Democrats are not lifting a finger to remember the well over 100 that have died in Texas Hill Country.”

He added that what “you are not being told by the media anywhere, is that the death toll likely would not have been as high if it wasn’t for DEI.”

“This Texas tragedy is just the latest example,” Kirk went on. “It’s not just incompetence. This is DEI working to undermine meritocratic institutions, and more people likely died than otherwise would have because of DEI.”

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/charlie-kirk-texas-floods-dei-death-toll-b2785957.html

I am surprised that he did not blame immigrants….but is probably another story…

Oh there is more stupidity.

As Texas recovers from one of its deadliest floods, some Republicans are spreading a conspiracy theory that suggests that weather manipulation is to blame for the deadly flash floods that have killed at least 89 people.

Republicans, including Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, have accused the scientific practice of being used to harm and kill, with Greene proposing a bill on Saturday that would make weather modification, also called cloud seeding, a felony.

Greene has previously suggested that weather manipulation has been used to harm Republican-majority areas in the south.

Fellow Republican and Congressional candidate Kandiss Taylor, who is vying for a seat alongside Greene in Georgia, also slammed the practice while directly blaming it for Texas’ incredible deaths and destruction.

“This isn’t just ‘climate change.’ It’s cloud seeding, geoengineering, & manipulation,” she posted on X, without supplying any supporting evidence. “If fake weather causes real tragedy, that’s murder.”

“Fake weather. Fake hurricanes. Fake flooding. Fake. Fake. Fake,” she added in another post.

FOOLS!

But not to worry His Majesty plans to tour the damage today….

As President Donald Trump heads to Texas on Friday for a firsthand look at the devastation caused by catastrophic flooding, he has remained conspicuously quiet about his previous promises to do away with the federal agency in charge of disaster relief.

The Trump administration isn’t backing away from its pledges to shutter the Federal Emergency Management Agency and return disaster response to the states. But since the July 4 disaster, which has killed at least 120 people, the president and his top aides have focused on the once-in-a-lifetime nature of what occurred and the human tragedy involved rather than the government-slashing crusade that’s been popular with Trump’s core supporters.

I am sure there will be another of his insulting speeches to follow….where no one is safe from blame and accusations.

Where will the next disaster hit?

Closing Thought–05Jun24

The testing ground for right wing stupidity seems to be Florida and Texas….and that brings me to the Texas GOP platform that has been approved.

As the party has drifted further right, its platform has done the same. In 2022, it called for a referendum on Texas secession; resistance to the “Great Reset,” a conspiracy theory that claims global elites are using environmental and social policies to enslave the world’s population; proclamations that homosexuality is an “abnormal lifestyle choice”; and a declaration that President Joe Biden was not legitimately elected.

(such bullshit!   What happened to separation of church and state….besides I do not believe in ‘forced’ religion)

https://www.texastribune.org/2024/05/25/texas-republican-party-convention-platform/

Nothing about this platform works to make lives better for the people of Texas…..instead it wasted time on issues that mean nothing to the average Texan…..but this is typical of every Red State….the people mean absolutely nothing to these clowns….and that is just a little sad….that they vote these d/bags into office every time.

“Literally Anybody Else”

I am not a fan of the two party system…..I think it stifles any progress in this country…..and yes I usual look for some to vote for that at least on the surface sounds a bit progressive.

In the recent past there has been a movement to protest by voting ‘uncommitted’….but this Texas dude has done the extra mile.

A Texas man has changed his name to what some voters facing a President Biden-Donald Trump rematch in November say they would prefer: Literally Anybody Else. The 35-year-old candidate, formerly known as Dustin Ebey, is an Army veteran who teaches math to seventh-graders in suburban Dallas, the Guardian reports. A Tarrant County approved the name change, and Else is trying to get on the ballot as an independent presidential candidate. “This isn’t about me … more so as it is an idea,” he says. “We can do better out of 300 million people for president.”

Else says he changed his name because he’s not satisfied with the choices on offer this year. “There really should be some outlet for people like me who are just so fed up with this constant power grab between the two parties that just has no benefit to the common person,” says Else, who describes his views as centrist. “Literally Anybody Else isn’t a person, it’s a rally cry,” his website states. He is trying to get on the ballot in Texas, but it won’t be easy. He will need to submit a petition before May 13 with 113,151 signatures from registered voters who didn’t vote in either party’s primary, WFAA reports.

“I’m not delusional. This will be very hard to do, but it’s not impossible. My hope is to have Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and then Literally Anybody Else right underneath,” Else tells WFAA. He says that the campaign is more about sending a message than winning and that if he doesn’t make it onto the ballot, he hopes voters in Texas and other states will write in Literally Anybody Else to express their dissatisfaction.

Clever.

I know, I know….if you vote for this guy then you help elect the other guy….that is a tired old excuse….

Yes it is a gimmick….but sad that one has to resort to gimmicks.

Vote for who you want and screw all the naysayers.

Send In The Calvary

Florida’s mini dictator, DeSantis, has been waging war in his state…war on bathrooms, education, rights, voters, Disney and now he is exporting his ‘jack boots’ to the border.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says he’s sending a formidable force, including planes, boats, drones, and more than 1,100 personnel, to help “defend” the border with Mexico. The Republican, who is expected to announce a White House bid within weeks, said the deployment will include 800 members of the Florida National Guard, 200 agents from the state Department of Law Enforcement, 101 state highway patrol troopers, and 20 agents from other state agencies, NBC reports. DeSantis sent around 100 law enforcement officers to the border in a similar move in 2021.

DeSantis said the personnel are being sent to the border for 30 days but extensions are possible. He cited the end of COVID-era Title 42 restrictions at the border, though the change last week was not immediately followed by the expected surge in migrants. “While Biden ignores the crisis he created, Florida stands ready to help Texas respond to this crisis,” he said, per the Hill. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Tuesday that he had asked governors to help the state with its “unprecedented border security efforts.” He said DeSantis and Idaho Gov. Brad Little had already offered resources.

“Given the crisis at the border, we decided to send in the cavalry,” said Taryn Fenske, the governor’s communications director. Some of the governor’s critics called the move a “political stunt,” the Miami Herald reports. “What an irresponsible waste of critical state resources by DeSantis for his own performative national politics,” tweeted former GOP Rep. David Jolly.

The problem they are trying to ‘solve’ may be a moot point….for after the crush of immigrants to the border with the end of 42 the amount of immigrants has fallen by 50%.

Here is a thought maybe Texas should spend more time with the border policies and less time fighting individual rights and education and all the other diversions.

But the GOP needs immigrants for it is a rallying point for all the hatred and  is doing nothing to move Texas into the 21st century.

Any thoughts on DeSantis’ new move on exporting his ‘troops’?

The Uvalde Report Is In

A report by the legislation of Texas has been finalized and issued to the public…..their findings are nothing short of expected…..stupidity and inaction were the rule of the day.

A Texas legislative report released Sunday spreads blame among law enforcement, the Uvalde school district, social media platforms, and the gunman’s family in the mass shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers. “Systemic failures and egregious poor decision making” allowed the gunman to kill at will for more than an hour despite the presence of 376 officers and the gunman’s complete lack of experience with firearms, the report says. The force gathered at Robb Elementary School on May 24 was larger than the one that defended the Alamo, the Tribune points out. The families of the victims received the preliminary, 77-page report Sunday morning and were scheduled to discuss it with members of the committee later in the day, per CNN.

The report identified no “villains” other than the gunman, “no one to whom we can attribute malice or ill motives.” But it detailed a sweeping breakdown and “an overall lackadaisical approach” to the crime. The officers who went to the school included 25 city police officers, 16 sheriff’s deputies, and five school district officers; the rest were federal or state officers, whose mandate includes responding to “mass attacks in public places.” District Police Chief Pete Arredondo said he assumed someone else was in charge that day. But the district’s active shooter response plan, which he co-wrote, says the chief will “become the person in control of the efforts of all law enforcement and first responders that arrive at the scene.” Local officers have received the most criticism, but the report points out that “these local officials were not the only ones expected to supply the leadership needed during this tragedy,” adding that officers from other agencies “could have helped to address the unfolding chaos.”

“They’re a joke. They’ve got no business wearing a badge,” said Vincent Salazar, grandfather of 11-year-old Layla Salazer, on Sunday, per the AP. “None of them do.” The report lists clear warning signs about the gunman that no one, including his family, acted on, per the Tribune. A year before he shot 21 people to death, other gamers gave him the nickname, “school shooter.” He told a girlfriend he wouldn’t live beyond 18. He was drawn to gore and violent sex online, sometimes sharing images of suicides and beheadings. He became furious when he lost games, threatening female players especially. He collected information about the mass shooting in a Buffalo supermarket. He spent time with a relative who went to Robb to learn about his schedule and lunch periods. An out-of-town friend grew concerned and offered to visit the gunman in July or August. “Damn that’s too late,” the 18-year-old answered.

Seriously?  No villains?

A white wash…..the cops that stood around while children died are more than villains…they were complacent….in the deaths of the children….a report to CYA the cops…..as always.

AS with most police situations….they just look the other way and blame someone else for their incompetence.

And the do-nothing attitude continues…..

More On Uvalde

After the disastrous response by the Uvalde police the news just keep coming….and coming….

The Texas House has proved just how cowardly even the Congress can be….in a hearing about the shootings and death….it seems that parents of the dead are intimidating…..

The family of a child killed in the Uvalde mass shooting was forced to leave a meeting about the massacre after an official complained that they were “intimidated” by them.

Journalists, a local chaplain and the relative of a victim were all asked to leave Uvalde City Hall on Monday afternoon ahead of a closed-door hearing before the Texas House of Representatives, according to CNN.

CNN reporter Shimon Prokupec tweeted that they were removed “because people are intimidated by us”.

“Texas legislators are meeting here with law enforcement behind closed doors,” he tweeted.

“The fire marshal also told a local chaplain and father of a victim to exit from the building.”

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/uvalde-family-texas-house-meeting-b2106232.html

Seriously?

The parents are not allowed to sit in these meetings to get an explanation why this happened and keeps happening.

Typical Right wing cowardice!

It appears the the school district’s police chief has been sanctioned…..

The Uvalde school district’s police chief was put on leave Wednesday following allegations that he erred in his response to the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School last month. Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Hal Harrell said that he put Pete Arredondo on administrative leave and that another officer would assume the embattled chief’s duties. In a statement, Harrell did not give a reason for removing Arredondo, the AP reports, but he said it remains unclear when district officials will know the outcome of the investigation into the shooting.

Steven McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, told a state Senate hearing on Tuesday that Arredondo—the on-site commander—made “terrible decisions” as the massacre unfolded on May 24 and that the police response was an “abject failure.” Arredondo has said he didn’t consider himself in charge of the response to the shooting, in which 19 students and two teachers were killed.

This situation continues to unfold and the answers are not showing any competence as law enforcement officers.

Closing Thought–02Nov21

Since 1980 there has been a rash of book banning by idiots in local government….and now Texas has pushed that lunacy to the limit……

On October 25, 2021, Texas State Rep. Matt Krause (R-Fort Worth) sent a letter to school districts across the state, asking them to review a 16-page list of books that may contain some “objectionable content.” “Pursuant to Government Code Section 301.020(a)(4),” he wrote, “the Texas House Committee on General Investigating may initiate inquiries concerning any ‘matter the committee considers necessary for the information of the legislature or for the welfare and protection of state citizens.'”

In addition to his compiled list, Rep. Krause alsoasks the districts to identity any other books or content that may “address or contain” certain topics including:

human sexuality, sexually transmitted diseases, or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), sexually explicit images, graphic presentations of sexual behavior that is in violation of the law, or contain material that might make students feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress because of their race or sex or convey that a student, by virtue of their race or sex, is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously.

In other words, government authorities are coming after books with positive portrayals of racial, sexual, and gender diversity and/or disability. Same as it ever was. In this case, the attack is being framed with the vocabulary of the “anti-CRT” hysteria, feigning concern about students feeling “guilty” about the fact that other people throughout history may have unfairly suffered because of their race, gender, or ability.

here’s the full list.

Texas lawmakers considering a ban on 850 books. Here’s the full list.

This is a worthless endeavor.

Idiots on the Right just keeps finding ways to out stupid each other…..and Krause is doing his best to keep up.

My thought is…my mother never told me what I could read or not….som the government can kiss my ass….I will read what I damn well like.

“We need to protect white demographics”!

This is the call of some fascist thug in Texas (go figure)…..

Charlie Kirk has been accused of having “a fraught relationship with facts,” and spreading conspiracy theories and outright falsehoods while being the founder and head of the right wing activist group Turning Point USA.

TPUSA may be best known for its now-former communications director who touted Hitler to defend the term “nationalism,” declaring that the “problem” with the genocidal Nazi responsible for the slaughter of up to 17 million people around the world was that he wanted to expand his reach beyond Germany: “if Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well, OK, fine. The problem is that he wanted, he had dreams outside of Germany. He wanted to globalize.”

Kirk is known as a friend to both Donald Trump and his son, Donald Trump, Jr.. In addition to documented instances of racism and white supremacy within the ranks of TPUSA, Kirk served on then-President Trump’s discredited 1776 Commission, and is reportedly traveling next month on his “Exposing Critical Racism” tour.

Last month MSNBC Opinion Columnist Zeeshan Aleem, in a piece focused on Kirk titled “Why Afghanistan’s collapse is an opportunity for far-right racists,” wrote: “Wow! Kirk’s comments are so laden with factual errors, conspiratorial fear-mongering, and racist tropes that it’s hard to know where to begin with unpacking them. But the bottom line is clear — he’s advancing white supremacist replacement theory: the idea that immigration threatens to unravel the ‘true’ fabric of American society.”

https://www.alternet.org/2021/09/charlie-kirk-2655088157/

These people are destroying this country little by little….and we are witness as well as participant…..

The issue that an unfortunate number of white Americans had with the Black Lives Matter movement is that it — along with the protests and removal of Confederate monuments — broke through any “delicate consideration” they may have entertained about the state of race relations in this country. Led by their race-baiting president and conservative media “personalities,” they insisted that there was no such thing as white privilege and that “all lives matter,” perhaps some even thinking that statement was not disingenuous. (Yes, of course, all lives matter — but that was not the point being made.)

For many, especially Southern, white people, this is a subject that should not be broached or, especially, be considered in personal terms. After the Civil War it would be spoken of in only genteel euphemisms, like “the peculiar institution.” (The war itself, which took some 750,000 lives, was often referred to as “The Late Unpleasantness,” showing just how ardently Americans downplay reality.) It’s no wonder that people vehemently decrying the teaching of inclusion and diversity in the schools around the country, purposely mixing that up with the legal study of critical race theory, will shout or hold back sobs — as one woman did at a school board meeting in the very district my wife and I attended near St. Louis — and say some version of “Don’t you dare call me a racist!” None of us wants to think of ourselves in that way.

That Texas Education

If you want to feel good about your white privilege then Texas will be the place for you and your children…..if ever there was revisionism in our educational system then look NO further than the state of Texas.

Where to begin with this?

The Texas state Senate has passed legislation that would repeal requirements to teach the history of white supremacy and the ways “in which it is morally wrong,” among other lessons pertaining to prominent people of color and women.

The Republican-led upper chamber passed the measure, known as Senate Bill 3, in a 18-4 vote on Friday.

The legislation now awaits consideration in the House, also led by Republicans, where Democratic lawmakers left earlier this month to deny their colleagues on the other side of the aisle the quorum necessary for a special legislative session in an effort to block a sweeping elections bill.

https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/563618-texas-senate-passes-bill-that-would-nix-requirement-for-teaching-white

This bill would also tackle the KKK …..

In a new political low in Texas, the Republican-dominated state Senate has passed a bill to eliminate a requirement that public schools teach that the Ku Klux Klan and its white supremacist campaign of terror are “morally wrong.”

Critics say the state is promoting an “anti-civics” education.

Senate Bill 3 — passed last Friday 18-4 — drops most mentions of people of color and women from the state’s required curriculum.

That includes eliminating a requirement that students be taught the “history of white supremacy, including but not limited to the institution of slavery, the eugenics movement, and the Ku Klux Klan, and the ways in which it is morally wrong.”

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/texas-senate-education-bill-white-supremacy_n_60f50cf6e4b01f11895b2dc3

But there is so much more in Senate bill 3……

The Texas Senate approved a GOP-backed education bill backed on the moral panic against the so-called critical race theory that eliminates any requirements for public schools to teach students about Martin Luther King Jr., the Ku Klux Klan, women’s suffrage, and a number of topics related to the Civil Rights movement.

Presently, Texas law requires that public school teachers adequately instruct their students on “the history of white supremacy, including but not limited to the institution of slavery, the eugenics movement, and the Ku Klux Klan, and the ways in which it is morally wrong.”

However, the bill, advanced on Friday along with an 18-4 vote in the Republican-led Texas Senate, will effectively give school districts the choice to shape their own history curriculums. S.B. 3 falls in line with the broader conservative push to abolish educational mandates on what history teachers can and cannot teach in the classroom.

https://www.salon.com/2021/07/20/texas-republicans-are-ramming-through-legislation-to-ban-teaching-about-mlk-jr-in-public-schools/

In case anyone would like to read the entire bill then look no further than here…..

Granted this has not become law yet….but there is an excellent chance that Abbot will have this bill on his desk soon.

Sorry but this is pure revisionism….and basically teaching hate….

I am so glad that my child graduated before this type of bullsh*t became the norm.

Plus this will be a template for other Red States and their brand of made-up history.

#AbbotHatesDogs

Closing Thought–24Jun21

Texas is a wonderful place.

They love to suppress the vote, their guns but somehow they hate dogs.

Why would anyone say that?

First since Gov. Abbot is the leader of the state…then he represents the people of that state…..

But how does that translate to hating dogs?

Easy Abbot has vetoed a bill that is anti-cruelty to dogs……

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) vetoed 20 bills passed by the GOP-controlled state Legislature, most of them announced Monday, The Texas Tribune reports. Abbott canceled two criminal justice reform bills prioritized by House Speaker Dade Phelan (R), a bill requiring schools to teach high school and middle school students about child abuse prevention and domestic violence, another one expanding rural broadband access, and legislation offering reduced penalties for criminal trespassing, arguing it would hurt tools to arrest homeless people and immigrants at the border.

Abbott also vetoed a bill Friday that would have banned tethering dogs outside with heavy chains, earning him the ire of dog owners and the hashtag #AbbottHatesDogs, the Houston Chronicle reported Monday. The bill, which would have expanded and clarified the state’s animal cruelty laws, had the support of animal control officers, law enforcement agencies and organizations, county prosecutors, and advocates for animals, and it passed 28-3 in the Senate and 83-32 in the House.

What part of this bill deserved the veto?

Sorry but you people elected this piece of manure…..ergo the state hates dogs.

The next time we go on a road trip and pass through Texas I will be sure to let MoMo out so she can crap on the state.
