Closing Thought–18Feb22

As elections loom large on the horizon we are getting out typical political ads…..some aging white guy with preacher hair and his dutiful wife and 2/3 children in tow telling us all about the future of our state….(most of which is all lies)…..

Then there is a candidate that breaks the rules of polite BS……this one is in Louisiana…..

A Louisiana candidate for the US Senate is making waves with his ads, which show him smoking marijuana and burning the Confederate flag. Baton Rouge community activist Gary Chambers Jr.—who had a viral moment in 2020 when he called out a school board member for online shopping during a discussion about the renaming of a school named after Gen. Robert E. Lee—is running for the seat held by first-term Republican Sen. John Kennedy, per the AP. In an ad released Wednesday, he’s shown hanging a Confederate flag on a clothesline, dousing it in gasoline, and setting it on fire.

“We must burn what remains of the Confederacy down,” Chambers says, condemning a system that’s “producing measurable inequity” for Black people. He adds that gerrymandered election districts are “a byproduct of the Confederacy.” The ad came a day after Chambers rallied at the Louisiana Capitol in support of the creation of a second majority-Black congressional district, which the Senate rejected, per the Daily Advertiser. As a third of the state population is Black, supporters argue two of the state’s six districts should have Black majorities, per the AP. In an earlier ad, viewed 6.6 million times on Twitter, Chambers smoked a marijuana blunt from a wingback chair in a field while dressed in a suit.

The ad was recorded in New Orleans, where there are no longer penalties for possession of small amounts of pot. Marijuana use in Louisiana could lead to jail time, though Chambers says that should change. In the ad, he decried the money wasted on enforcing marijuana laws, adding that arrests disproportionally affect Black people. “Most of the people police are arresting aren’t dealers, but rather people with small amounts of pot. Just like me,” he said. Chambers and fellow Democrat Luke Mixon face an uphill battle in trying to unseat Kennedy. The Republican has almost $10 million in campaign cash, compared to about $170 for Chambers. The latter spent about $400,000 last year in a House race in which he finished strong but lost.

Of course this guy will not win….but at least he is not a cookie cutter image of the guy he is trying to replace.

But watch the ad for yourself….it is unusual and for me memorable…..

If he was running in Mississippi I would vote for him…..but sadly all I can do is watch from afar.

Closing Thought–06Feb17

Pathetic toads!

As any American will tell you yesterday was the all powerful Super Bowl….personally I had better things to do that watch this spectacle….and every year the big stories are usually the ads that show during the game…this year was NO different but their was a bit of a twist……

Part of the ritual of the Super Bowl is the analysis of the adverts shown during the game, when US television networks use the large audience numbers to charge astronomical sums for commercial slots.

This year, during the first Super Bowl of Donald Trump’s presidency, the US brewery Anheuser-Busch used its slot to send a pro-immigration message to the nation.

The advert, Born the Hard Way, portrays a fictionalised version of the journey of Adolphus Busch to the US, where he would go on to help create Budweiser beer with fellow immigrant Eberhard Anheuser.

Trump supporters on social media were furious when the advert was launched before the game, vowing not to drink the beer again.

This stupidity goes under #BoycottBudweiser…..

This just illustrates the moronic air around Trump and his knuckle dragging followers…I wish I could find more polite way of putting my thoughts down….about the only one that fits is STUPIDITY.

Does not appear if any sanity will win the day for the next 4 years…..temper tantrums from our fearless leader and his throngs of demented toads…..keeps sanity at bay…..

I wish I could say this was the silliest incident but it hardly registers at all….

God only knows what it will be tomorrow.

My day is done…thanx to all for the visits and the follows…I shall return tomorrow with more….stuff.

Why Recycle Campaign Ads?

Let the election countdown begin…….7 and counting.

I was a young non-voting participant in the 1964 election and during that election I remember one special political ad……the Daisy Girl ad…

In case you were too young to remember …..

Yes it is an old ad and why do I bring it up now?

It appears that Clinton has decided to resurrect this ad for her own purposes……

Personally I think it is a cheap shot….but in an election year that is full of cheap shots I guess they cannot do any better……

Back in 1964 it was a timely ad…..today it is just a lame attempt by a struggling candidate……

Truth In Advertising–Part 2

I recently wrote a post about the campaign ads and how they were choked full of lies, half truths and exaggerations….and why we as a country cannot make these cowards tell the truth in their ads for election….after all they are selling a service…the service of representation….

Across the pond…in the UK…they have the right stuff when it comes to these ads….

A candidate named Phil Woolas was suspended and his election was nullified for lying in election campaign stuff….

Woolas – who was Immigration Minister under Gordon Brown – was found guilty by two High Court judges of breaking election law by knowingly making false statements about an opponent.

He accused Lib Dem candidate Elwyn Watkins in a pamphlet and two mock newspapers of pandering to Islamic extremists. His campaign team was said to have set out to “make the white folk angry”.

Now here is a great idea…..my Brit friends I salute you and your country’s election laws….

Where Is The Truth In Advertising?

From the VOMITORIUM

Advertising laws are aimed at protecting consumers by requiring advertisers to be truthful about their products and to be able to substantiate their claims. All businesses must comply with advertising and marketing laws, and failure to do so could result in costly lawsuits and civil penalties.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is the main federal agency that enforces advertising laws and regulations. Under the Federal Trade Commission Act:

  • Advertising must be truthful and non-deceptive;
  • Advertisers must have evidence to back up their claims; and
  • Advertisements cannot be unfair.

So, it you were buying a product or service you would expect the seller to conduct themselves in a way that would no de-fraud the consumer in any way…….right?  If you bought a car, you would expect it to function properly….if you bought a service you expect it to do what it was sold to do….right?

If you feel that the consumer should be protected from lies and promises that cannot be kept….why do you allow politicians to get away with it?  They are selling a service….the service of representation of the people of their district….and as such they should be held to the “fairness in advertising” statute….

I purposefully waited until after the 2010 election season before I wrote this….why?  I wanted to see just how far the candidates would push their campaigns into the realm of bullsh*t….this year’s campaign ads were full of misinformation, false claims, promises that are unrealistic and outright LIES!

The people need to ban together and turn the politicians over to the FTC, if it is determined that they outright lied to the voter.  And believe me, without much effort, some of the claims and accusations from politicians can be shown to be false…why do we allow them to get away with the lies?  If Ford lied to you, you would be all over them with lawsuits and other legal actions….why not FORCE politicians to keep their word?  If Sears and Chevy must be forthright, then so should the beasts we call politicians….

Is This The Politics You Want?

From the VOMITORIUM

The 2010 mid terms are a wealth of crap!  There are candidates on both sides that if their IQ ever gets to a 100, I suggest they sell and start over….I have never in my 40+ years of political observations seen such a wide array of morons, idiots and perverts running for office…..

I mean we have had all sorts of attacks, personal ones especially, this candidate is a witch…that one is gay…that one is sexually active….this one is a rubber stamp…this one…..well you know on and on and on and……..all total CRAP!

But this one is my fav as far as stupidity goes…….

Vote for Him and He’ll Kill Your Dog http://pwire.at/cdK569

It just gets worse the closer we get to election day, Nov. 2, 2010……the sad part is that some of it is working on the voter….does that surprise you?  Really?  To me it makes perfect sense because the population is so concerned with gossip and mindless dribble…..a society that makes stupidity like Jackass..the movie a hit….or reality shows like Jersey Shore…a hit….or Dancing with the stars a must see TV program…..and a society that thinks poker is a sport……appeals to an electorate that has an IQ that matches their shoe size……WE ARE DOOMED!

Hit ‘Em Hard!

The Dems seem to have found their cajones that have been lost in the past 18 months…..the following is a new DNC ad for the upcoming elections …it shows a little imagination that I thought that they were missing…there has been numerous times I thought that the Dems needed to go on the attack and they would wimp out and let it pass trying to smooth it over with some lame talking points…….but now they show some cajones….

Will this work in the coming elections?  Only if the people are paying attention and check the facts….ALWAYS  check the facts!

Guilty by Association

Since no one in the media has addressed this piece of information, I will do it for them.
Sarah Palin is attacking Barack Obama for “palling around with terrorists,” twisting media accounts to falsely connect Obama with the Weather Underground figure Bill Ayers. Let me say that I have no sympathy, and never had, for the anarcho-syndicalist craziness and bona fide infantile leftism, that Ayers and his associates represented nearly 40 years ago, when Obama was in the 3rd grade.

By contrast, Sarah Palin has real and documented connections to the Alaska Independence Party, which is far more extremist than even the most far right of the Republican Party. The main platform of that party, as Alaska Independence Party leaders have stated, is a rejection of the United States and an effort to cause Alaska to leave the union. Given what this party represents today, Palin’s ties to that party deserve to be an issue in the campaign.

Alaska Independence Party leaders have also claimed that Sarah Palin was a member before she was elected mayor of Wasilla, which the McCain campaign has denied. Officially, records show that Palin was a registered Republican since 1982, six years before she married her husband Todd, British Petroleum supervisory employee, self-employed fisherman, and snowmobile mobile racer.

The Director of the Alaska Division of Elections has stated that Todd Palin, however, was a registered member of the Alaska Independence Party from 1995 to 2002. Todd Palin, all sources agree, has played a significant role as a policy adviser to his wife’s administration. There is significant disagreement about Sarah Palin’s attendance at Alaska Independence Party conventions before she became mayor of Wasilla. She did visit their convention after she became mayor, however, which the McCain workers try to downplay as a mere courtesy call. As governor, she sent a video tape to the most recent 2008 convention telling the delegates to “keep up the good work” and calling their convention “inspiring.”

Here is a little history on the Alaska Independence Party. The Party was founded by an ultra-rightist gold miner, Joe Vogler in the 1970s with an “anti-American” platform. Palin has denounced those abroad in oil rich countries who “hate America.” Joe Vogler hated America. He said in the 1970s, “I’m an Alaskan, not an American. I have no use for America or her damned institutions.”

Later Vogler said that “the fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred of the US government. And I won’t be buried under their damn flag….when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home.” He said this in an oral history interview at the University of Alaska in 1991, at which time Bill Ayers had rejected his own past and had become respectable. Two years later Vogler disappeared. A criminal subsequently confessed to murdering him in a conflict over the sale of plastic explosives (which may suggest terrorism).

Like I have said in the past that I really detest the whole premise of guilt by association.  I mean there are many of us that would be guilty if that was the law of the land.  But I guess it is win at any cost.

Politics Of Distraction

Without a doubt the McCain campaign has sunk the presidential elections this year to a new low, with misleading ads, mudslinging, and attack ads focused on personalities rather than issues. Americans have heard more about pigs in lipstick than what the candidates will do to fix the economy. And the corporate media has been far too willing to follow its lead.

A new ad campaign launched this week by the Institute for America’s Future seeks to reverse that negative trend.

The campaign challenges the candidates and the media to “give us a debate worthy of a great nation in trouble.” The campaign will call on Americans to demand a political discussion focused on several main points that need immediate attention.

The ads will raise the issues of the economic recession, rising global debt and financial crisis, the failing health care system, collapsing public infrastructure, corporate corruption, and the endless occupation of Iraq.

The ad calls for a “new deal” that ensures working families see the benefits of rising productivity, have guaranteed health care coverage, and get a “fair share of prosperity.”

The ads will run in the New York Times, and readers will be encouraged to bring them to public forums with candidates, and to take other steps to demand the candidates and the media focus on real issues that impact working families. Learn more at www.ourfuture.org

All Seriousness Aside

What is going on here? The candidates are swimming in the shallow end of the political crapper. They are throwing these shallow little innuendo’s at each other and the country and the economy is beginning to crash and burn. Someone, anyone, please step up and grasp the reality of the situation that Americans are facing.

It is all so damn silly that these men are hurling insults and lies at each and their running mates. The American people deserve better than that, especially in this election. Ma and Pa are losing their store, Joe and Jane are losing their home, Pete and Paula have lost their jobs and the media and candidates are focusing in on some damn stupid add that says one candidate wants to teach sex in kindergarten. To begin with the bill in question did nor pass and no where did it call for teaching comprehensive sex to kindergarten. These idiots keep talking about intangible things like patriotism, hero-worship, change, please talk the voter how their life will truly improve if they are elected. Patriotism does not feed hungry children, hero worship will not save the house and lies will not stop the jobless rate from rising.

Time to put aside childish little games, stop being shallow little brats and move to the serious side of reality.
