Yes contrary to popular Chuq does listen to music……he has not yet jumped on the modern day definition of the term….he prefers classics….I have included a few of my play list that keeps me comfortable in my days of research and ranting……enjoy.

Thank God it is the weekend and I can write on something other than the obscenities of the world…….I do not write much about the gossip of the day…..like the Kardashians or Beebs or any of the other dicks that think their lives are something more than the rest of us…..but I will make an exception this time for what I rewad is about one of my fave groups back in the 60’s and 70’s…..the Doors.
(Newser) – The death of Doors frontman Jim Morrison at the age of 27 back in 1971 still has all kinds of conspiracy theories and weirdness connected to it, thanks to the lack of an autopsy. Doctors cited heart failure, and now former girlfriend Marianne Faithfull tells British music site Mojo that she knows exactly what happened: It was a heroin OD caused by her boyfriend at the time, a dealer named Jean de Breiteuil. Faithfull says Breiteuil went to visit Morrison at his Paris apartment, but she stayed behind:
- “I could intuitively feel trouble,” she recalls. “I thought, I’ll take a few Tuinal and I won’t be there. And he went to see Jim Morrison and killed him. I mean I’m sure it was an accident. … The smack was too strong? Yeah. And he died.”
Of course, it’s not the first time Morrison’s death has been linked to heroin or even to heroin supplied by Breiteuil, notes the Washington Post. But this seems to be the most definitive account offered by Faithfull. As she herself notes, “Everybody connected to the death of this poor guy is dead now. Except me.” (A nightclub manager says Morrison OD’d in his bar, then got moved back to his apartment, but Faithfull isn’t backing that up.)
I recalled when Morrison died….I recall the feeling of loss when I heard the news kinda like the loss I felt when John Lennon was killed…….all the greats seem to die young from whatever it was….Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison, and left us with lesser talents…….
As an old fart and activist I was always a fan of the early protests songs and the folk singers that sang them…..people like Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Peter, Pauland Mary and Pete Seeger……yesterday we lost the last of the greats….Pete Seeger died at 94…..
(Newser) – Pete Seeger, a towering presence in American folk music and activism for many decades, has died after 94 years—and more than 100 albums. The bearded, banjo-playing protest singer gained fame with the Weavers in the ’40s and is best known for popularizing songs like This Land Is Your Land and We Shall Overcome, as well as writing or co-writing folk classics like If I Had a Hammer and Turn, Turn, Turn, the BBC reports. He spearheaded the American folk revival of the ’50s and ’60s and was an inspiration and mentor to many younger singers including Bob Dylan and Joan Baez.
But activism was as important to Seeger as music. A lifelong believer in causes like civil rights, racial equality, and anti-militarism, he saw folk music and community as “inseparable, and where he saw a community, he saw the possibility of political action,” a New York Times obituary notes. Blacklisted in the McCarthyite ’50s, his activism continued until the very end. At a 90th birthday tribute concert—a benefit to clean up New York’s Hudson River—Bruce Springsteen introduced him, saying, “He’s gonna look a lot like your granddad that wears flannel shirts and funny hats. He’s gonna look like your granddad if your granddad can kick your ass. At 90, he remains a stealth dagger through the heart of our country’s illusions about itself,” USA Today reports.
As a nostalgic SOB…he will be missed….and his voice of social change will be silent something that many wanted to do back in the day…..he will be remembered!

I am sure that most literate people realize how offensive the confederate flag is………that it is a symbol of slavery and in today’s world…a symbol of racism. Years ago when we were having a problem with idiots wanting to promote the flag and pissing the black community off at the same time…..my son-in-law and I were saying the best way to fight this symbol was for African-Americans to somehow make it “their” flag….to start wearing it for everything and everywhere…to just take over it altogether.
Well it seems that Kanye West heard our rumblings…….
(Newser) – Kanye West, never one to shy away from controversy, was spotted Saturday wearing a jacket decorated with … a Confederate flag, People reports. The rapper has also featured the flag on his Yeezus tour T-shirts and merch. He explained himself last week while talking to an LA radio station. “React how you want. Any energy is good energy,” he told 97.1 AMP. “You know the Confederate flag represented slavery in a way—that’s my abstract take on what I know about it. So I made the song ‘New Slaves.’ So I took the Confederate flag and made it my flag. It’s my flag. Now what are you going to do?”
I will seldom say too much pleasant about West….but in this I think he is on to something and others should follow suit….take away the symbol from the morons and turn it on them as quickly as possible……….
Let me say here…BRAVO, Kanye….I do believe you are on to something….now get the rest to jump on that…..this could be better than a 100 demonstrations…..KEEP IT GOING!
I am breaking with my policy of not commenting on gossip and such but this one has a personal component to it and I feel I must comment…….
I will admit it…..I am a child of the 60’s….yes I did my share of drugs and stupid pranks…..and then there was the music……the greatest music ever recorded……Cream……Hendirx….Dylan……Electric Prunes and so many more…….but there was one voice that always got to me……Linda Ronstadt….it was perfect….it was beautiful….and she was a gorgeous flower child……okay I will cop to it…..I had a large thing for her!
I got my shot back in the days of the Jazz Festival when it was held at city park….there was this one time and I will not date myself for I am old and do not like to be reminded of it, Ronstadt was one of the featured acts….I was there and it was in the days when rock stars could walk among us mere mortals without the need of a mountain sized bodyguard……anyway I made my way to the stage that she was to perform on and waited for the magic to start…….and there she was walking through the crowd shaking hands and schmoozing with us….anyway I got to shake her hand and immediate proposed to her…….she got a good laugh out of it and I in turn got a great hug and a kiss on the check…..I did not wash that cheek until I got married for the first time….but I always remember the one that got away….well that is the way I tell it!
I do not usually go in for gossip….I detest that sort of thing and most of it does not deserve a mention much less a post on my blog….but this is the exception to the rule……why? We have lost her voice for ever…….
LINDA Ronstadt, the onetime ‘First Lady of Rock’, is no longer able to sing because of Parkinson’s disease.
The 67-year-old, who has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide and is regarded as the most successful female rock singer of the Seventies, said she was diagnosed eight months ago and “can’t sing a note”.
In an interview with AARP Magazine, the singer said she began to show symptoms eight years ago.
“I couldn’t sing and I couldn’t figure out why,” she said. “I knew it was mechanical. I knew it had to do with the muscles, but it didn’t occur to me to go to a neurologist.”
She was “completely shocked” when finally diagnosed. “I wouldn’t have suspected that in a million, billion years,” she said.
Ronstadt now uses sticks to walk on uneven ground and a wheelchair when travelling.
It breaks my heart to get this news….I wish her well and to let her know she will be sadly missed……..and to me she will always be a love and the one that got away.
Last weekend I posted the story about the Russian punk band Pussy Riot and the trouble they were having with the Putin run country…….
Pussy Riot took on two powerful state institutions at once when they burst into Moscow’s golden-domed Christ the Saviour Cathedral wearing bright ski masks, tights and short skirts to protest against Putin’s close ties with the Church.
The judge said the three women had “committed an act of hooliganism, a gross violation of public order showing obvious disrespect for society.” She rejected their argument that they had no intention of offending Russian Orthodox believers.
It became one of Russia’s most high-profile trials since the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991 and Putin’s critics said it put the 59-year-old Kremlin leader’s policies in the dock.
Opponents depicted it as part of a crackdown by the ex-KGB spy against a protest movement that took off over the winter, attracting what witnesses said were crowds of up to 100,000 people in Moscow to oppose his return to power.
And now for the bad news……
A judge sentenced three members of Russian feminist punk band Pussy Riot to two years jail on Friday for staging a protest against President Vladimir Putin in a church, an act the judge called “blasphemous”.
Supporters of the women say their case has put Putin’s tolerance of dissent on trial. Several opposition figures were detained outside the courtroom while protesting in support of the women.
The women have support abroad, where their case has been taken up by a long list of celebrities including Madonna, Paul McCartney and Sting, but polls show few Russians sympathize with them.
Judge Marina Syrova found the women guilty of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, describing them as blasphemers who had deliberately offended Russian Orthodox believers by storming the altar of Moscow’s main cathedral in February to belt out a song deriding Putin.
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, Marina Alyokhina, 24, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30, stood watching in handcuffs in a glass courtroom cage.
Now the question is how will the rest of the world react……..and if there are still “gulags” these women are so screwed……thoughts?
It is common knowledge that I am a dirty old man…..But before I take heat for the title….it is the name of a Russian band…….
Three women who protested against Vladimir Putin in a “punk prayer” on the altar of Russia’s main cathedral went on trial Monday in a case seen as a test of the longtime leader’s treatment of dissent during a new presidential term.
The members of the band Pussy Riot face up to seven years in prison for an unsanctioned performance in February in which they entered Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral, ascended the altar and called on the Virgin Mary to “throw Putin out!”
Maria Alyokhina, 24, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova (see photo below), 22, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 29, were brought to Moscow’s Khamovniki court for Russia’s highest-profile trial since former oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky was convicted in 2010.
On Monday, supporters chanted “Girls, we’re with you!” and “Victory!” as the women, each handcuffed by the wrist to a female officer, were led from a white and blue police van into the courthouse through a side entrance. Streets around the court, on a high Moscow River embankment, were closed.
Okay, I love the name but beyond that these women need the support of the music industry…..they need all these overpaid musicians to go to their rescue…..let the world know the injustice being done. Freedom of speech is not one of those things that the Russian government thinks is a good idea.
It is the weekend….Sunday to be exact….and since I do not post much on religious stuff…..I will change that today….the day before I return to the silliness of politics…….

I have heard that this or that was a message from God…..first of all, do you really want to follow a God that would talk to any of these attle brained morons? Second, I am just following a logical progression…..
There have been many that say that God is sending us messages…in one form or another……First, I recall a message the Pat Robertson talked about…it was Katrina and its effect was, according to him, a message from God and our sinful ways……then there was everybody’s favorite right wing dumbass, Glenn Beck….he informed the world that the massive tsunami in Japan that wrecked havoc was a message from God……and then there is my favorite female nutcase, Michele Bachmann, who said that it was a message from God that she run for the GOP nomination….but she was not finished with her contact with God……just last week she said that the Hurricane Irene was a message from God to Washington D.C. for politicians to wake and listen to the people…….I never knew God was all that political…..oh well….live and learn.
I will bet that you are wondering just where I am going with this chain of thought, right?
Let us step back about a month or so…..remember Indiana state fair? When a country band called Sugar land was about to go onstage for their performance and a freak wind gust collapsed the stage they were about enter?
Well if you think out the logical progression of thought that the right wing dipsticks have then you can postulate that it was a message from God that he hates or at least disapproves of country music….PERIOD!
Side note: The loss of life in everyone of the cases I cited were horrific and I am by NO means making light of their deaths…I am trying to point out that anything can be attributed to a message from God…..the sooner that some realize this fact….the sooner they can get on with their lives and learn to be happy……
High exposure to lyrics that describe degrading sex is associated with high levels of sexual behaviour in teens, a new study suggests.
The research, published Tuesday in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, was conducted in three large urban high schools in the Pittsburgh area, and involved asking Grade 9 students about the number of hours a day they listen to music and their favourite musical artists.
STDs are particularly problematic in poor communities, Primack said, and that was a reason for focusing on three urban high schools where about half the kids take part in a lunch program — indicating they fall below a certain income level.
“We divided the cohort into three … those who were exposed to the lowest amount (of music with degrading references), those who were exposed to sort of the medium amount, those who were exposed to the most,” he said.
“And those who were exposed to the most were more than twice as likely to have had sexual intercourse, and that’s even controlling for all of the other factors that we looked at that we thought might be related to uptake of sexual intercourse.”
Daniel Levitin, a cognitive neuroscientist at McGill University in Montreal, said the study “clearly adds to our body of knowledge about the connection between musical lyrics and … experiences of young people.”
But Levitin, author of the bestselling book “This is Your Brain on Music,” said the study wasn’t designed in a way that it could tell us about any causes of the young people’s behaviour.
“The important thing to bear in mind is whatever it is that’s causing young people to engage in increasingly risky sexual activity at a younger age — we don’t know whether there’s some third factor out there in the world that’s causing them both to engage in that activity and to seek out this music.”
