Insurrection Good News/Bad News

The saga continues for the insurrection of 06 January 2021……the FBI and Justice Department is trying to find those that participated and bring them to justice…..

The good news of the insurrection……more arrests coming…..

The U.S. Justice Department on Friday said it expects to file criminal charges against more than 100 additional people who allegedly participated in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, in what it described as probably the most complex investigation it has ever handled.

More than 300 people already face charges stemming from the siege, which left five people dead and more than 130 police officers injured as thousands of supporters of former President Donald Trump tried to prevent Congress from certifying his election defeat.

Sadly there is bad news as well…..

The US attorney’s office in Washington, DC, expects to start offering plea deals to people charged in the Capitol insurrection in the next 30 days, a prosecutor told a judge on Friday.

None of the 300-plus people charged with participating in the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol have pleaded guilty to charges so far. Court filings in recent weeks have confirmed that some defendants are open to cutting a deal, but until now prosecutors had been vague about timing, at least in their public representations about the investigation. They’ve told judges that because of the mountain of evidence they’re still gathering and sifting through, they needed more time before they could make offers.

During a Friday morning hearing in the case of two alleged Capitol rioters, Jenny Cudd and Eliel Rosa, Assistant US Attorney Amanda Fretto said that based on information prosecutors had received from supervisors, it sounded “like things are moving along.” Fretto said she had spoken with lawyers for Cudd and Rosa about agreeing to suspend deadlines in their case for 30 days to give the government time to extend a plea offer.

Weeks ago during the protests in Kenosha Wisconsin the little dipshit Rittenhouse took his rifle and set about shooting and killing protesters….and now the a local judge said that with all the problems this little slug has caused he is now free to walk around a plot his next act of terrorism.

Kyle Rittenhouse doesn’t need to be arrested again, his bail doesn’t need to be increased, and he doesn’t have to publicly disclose his whereabouts, a judge in Wisconsin decided Thursday. Kenosha County Circuit Judge Bruce Schroeder rejected prosecutors’ request to issue an arrest warrant for the 18-year-old, who is charged with killing two men and injuring a third during protests in Kenosha last year, NPR reports. Prosecutors said Rittenhouse, who was freed in November after posting $2 million bail, violated bond conditions by failing to inform the court of a change in address. The teen’s lawyers said he withheld his new address out of safety concerns. They submitted an anonymous email warning that Rittenhouse would be raped in prison. Schroeder agreed that there were legitimate concerns for Rittenhouse’s safety.

Schroeder said the violation wasn’t enough reason to arrest Rittenhouse. The judge declined the request to raise bail by $200,000, but told Rittenhouse’s lawyers to submit his new address to the court, which would keep it sealed. The judge said he didn’t want to risk further unrest. “After what this town has been through in the last six months I don’t want any more problems,” Schroeder said, per Reuters. “I’ve got two broken windows here, right here in this courtroom, the doors are all still covered with plywood, a good share of the community is still boarded up after millions of dollars of damage.” CNN reports that John Huber, father of one of the men allegedly shot by Rittenhouse, asked for bail to be increased to $4 million. “From the moment he became a killer he thought he was above the law,” Huber said.

Maybe this will help……Rittenhouse’s bail conditions were changed after he was seen drinking with Proud Boys.

Still associating with hate groups….is a problem.

This is yet another example of the injustice in our justice system.

If this had been a crime committed by a black person they would be rotting in jail….but yet some little Nazi is free to continue his life of hate.

I say screw the little bastard….let him grow old and die in prison.

Better yet Biden needs to find out who appointed this slug to his judgeship and chastise them.

Make It Go Bang!

By now everyone has heard about the moron that blew up himself and his RV in Nashville. The thing is this person is handled with kid gloves in the media (at least that is how it appears)…..my question is….WHY?

The Nashville narrative is pretty clear: Authorities say Anthony Quinn Warner packed his RV with explosives and blew it and himself up on Christmas while parked downtown. He was, by the most basic definition of the term, a suicide bomber. And yet you’d be hard-pressed to find the phrase in media coverage, writes Danielle Campoamor at Refinery29. The same applies to “domestic terrorist.” Campoamor calls out “legacy publications” in general for avoiding the terminology, particularly the New York Times and the local Tennessean, which is part of Gannett. Instead of being called a suicide bomber or a domestic terrorist, Quinn is being described as a lonely, older white guy. If he were Black or brown, he wouldn’t be getting the same treatment, writes Campoamor. She notes that this Times article in particular set off a backlash among critics like her.

“Editors and political talking heads dragging their feet to name a white domestic terrorist accordingly is hardly new,” she writes. Men like those recently accused of plotting to kidnap Michigan’s governor usually are instead described as “militia” members or “watchmen.” Campoamor isn’t the only calling attention to this. “If a bomber commits suicide with a bomb wouldn’t you call that person a suicide bomber?” tweets Molly Jong-Fast of the Daily Beast. The problem goes beyond media semantics, writes Campamor, pointing as an example to the way hate crimes against Muslims spike after an attack by someone claiming to be one. “This refusal to hold white men to the same standard—to the same level of villainization—plays a large part in the culture of hate crimes that runs rampant in America,” Campamor notes. I do not think a black or brown person would have gotten such favorable treatment….they would have been thugs or terrorists.

What gave this demented person the benefit of the doubt when others are not so lucky?

Tragic Christmas Surprise

While must of us were preparing for one of our big days…tragedy struck in the city of Nashville…..

An explosion shook the largely deserted streets of downtown Nashville early Christmas morning, shattering windows, damaging buildings, and wounding three people, per the AP. Authorities said they believed the blast was intentional, and the FBI is leading the investigation. Police spokesman Don Aaron said the 6:30am explosion was believed to be “an intentional act,” though no further details were provided. Police earlier said they believe a vehicle was involved in the explosion. Aaron said three people were taken to area hospitals for treatment, although none were in critical condition. The Metro Nashville Office of Emergency Management told WKRN that a parked recreational vehicle exploded and damaged several buildings.

Black smoke and flames were seen early Friday billowing from the area, which is packed with bars, restaurants, and other retail establishments and is known as the heart of downtown Nashville’s tourist scene. Buildings shook in the immediate area and beyond after a loud boom was heard. “All my windows, every single one of them got blown into the next room. If I had been standing there it would have been horrible,” said Buck McCoy, who lives near the area. “It felt like a bomb. It was that big.”

A strange new twist has developed in regard to the explosion that rocked downtown Nashville on Christmas morning. Police and witnesses say a recreational vehicle broadcast warnings that a bomb was in the vehicle and counted down a 15-minute warning before the explosion, reports the Tennessean. As of Friday afternoon, three people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries as authorities led by the FBI try to figure out what happened. Coverage:

  • The start: Police responded to a call of shots fired about 6am and discovered the “suspicious” RV parked on a street, reports the Washington Post. The bomb squad was en route when the explosion occurred about 6:30am, per the AP.
  • Warnings: Witnesses heard this coming from the RV: “Evacuate now. There is a bomb. A bomb is in this vehicle and will explode,” according to the Tennessean. Then a 15-minute countdown began. “Whoever did it did gave fair warning,” says Betsy Williams, owner of the nearby Melting Pot restaurant. She and her family also live in the building, and they evacuated in their pajamas. Williams says she thinks the RV showed up Thursday night.
  • Questions: Authorities don’t know if anyone was in the RV when it exploded. Nor have they speculated on a possible motive. “We do believe this to have been an intentional act,” says police spokesman Don Aaron said. “Significant damage has been done to the infrastructure there on 2nd Avenue North.” CNN quotes a law enforcement source who says there were no known threats about a Christmas strike among extremist groups.
  • A promise: “We will find out who did this,” Special Agent in Charge Matt Foster of the FBI said at an afternoon news conference. “This is our city, too. We’re putting everything we have into finding who was responsible for what happened here today.” President Trump has been briefed, reports WKRN.
  • Dog walker: Police began knocking on doors and telling people to evacuate in the minutes before the blast. One man walking his dog was directed away from the site moments before the explosion, notes the Post.
  • Damage: It will take time to assess, but several buildings sustained structural damage, and photos showed destroyed cars, scattered glass, broken water mains, and shards of metal strewn everywhere. “It looks like a bomb went off,” says Mayor John Cooper

Of course this will be a continuing story until the conclusion and arrests are made.

Barbaric!

We all have heard of those people (I use the term loosely) that are coughing on fruit or sneezing on toilet seats, licking stuff…..etc etc etc…….these people need to be stopped and held accountable for the endangering people’s lives.

Well someone has stepped up…..

A 26-year-old Missouri man was arrested this week after he allegedly made a video of himself licking items at a Walmart in an attempt to mock the coronavirus, which has killed thousands of people across the globe.

The Warren County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Tuesday charged Cody Lee Pfister with making a terrorist threat in the second degree, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The incident took place on March 11 at the Warrenton Walmart, according to court records.

Now the DOJ has stepped up as well……

People who intentionally spread the coronavirus could face criminal charges under federal terrorism laws, the Justice Department’s No. 2 official said Tuesday.

In a memo to top Justice Department leaders, law enforcement agency chiefs and U.S. Attorneys across the country, Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen said prosecutors and investigators could come across cases of “purposeful exposure and infection of others with COVID-19.”

I read someplace that there had been 300+ shootings in this country with multiple causalities……and this week we can add 3 more to the tally….

First it was the shooter at the Pearl Harbor Memorial…..

Officials will beef up security for the ceremony to remember those lost in the attack on Pearl Harbor 78 years ago, with service members and dignitaries confronting a fresh tragedy after a US sailor killed two civilians, wounded another, and then turned the gun on himself at the storied military base, the AP reports. The National Park Service, which is hosting the event with the Navy, would not give specifics on the heightened security measures, Pearl Harbor National Memorial spokesman Jay Blount said. Across the harbor at the naval shipyard, a sailor on Wednesday shot three civilians working for the shipyard on the base, killing two, before taking his own life.

The gunman was 22-year-old G. Romero, according to a military official who spoke on condition of anonymity to provide details that had not been made public. Romero’s job was to stand watch and provide security for the fast attack submarine USS Columbia, which is at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam for maintenance. He used his service rifle to shoot the victims, then killed himself with his service pistol, the official said. Navy officials said they didn’t know the motive for the shooting. It wasn’t known if the sailor and victims knew each other. Jamie Hiranaka, the president of the union representing the three workers, said they were all quality assurance inspectors whose job was to check welding and other work completed by shipyard workers.

Then there was an attack on a UPS truck…a highjack……

Four people were shot dead after a robbery and truck hijacking came to a bloody end at an intersection in Miramar, south Florida. FBI Special Agent in Charge George Piro says the two robbery suspects, a UPS driver, and a person in a nearby vehicle were killed in a shootout at the end of a 20-mile chase, CNN reports. The incident began with the armed robbery of a jewelry store in Coral Gables, around 5 miles west of Miami. A law enforcement source tells the Miami Herald that the two suspects posed as postal workers to gain access to the store. The source says a female employee in the store was injured when a bullet that a robber fired into the floor ricocheted and hit her in the forehead.

The third attack was in Pensacola but this time the attacker was a foreign national…..a Saudi…..

It’s the second fatal shooting at a US naval facility this week: Authorities say a gunman opened fire at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, Friday morning. The Pensacola News Journal reports that the shooter is dead, along with three victims. The newspaper reports at least seven other people were being treated at a local hospital. That includes two deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, one of whom was shot in the knee and the other in the arm. The shooting comes just two days after a sailor killed two civilians and himself at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Hawaii.

Deputies from the sheriff’s office killed the Pensacola gunman, reports WEAR. The shooting reportedly began in a classroom before 7am. The naval base is a sprawling one that employs 16,000 military personnel and 7,400 civilians, reports the AP, which describes it as “one of the Navy’s most historic and storied bases.” It’s the home of the Blue Angels squadron and the first training stop for those becoming Navy pilots or flight officers, per the Washington Post.

Not to worry…just a typical week in the US…..not to worry…it will be repeated again……and soon.

Call It “Domestic Terrorism”!

The last round of mass shootings and the media has once again gone to great lengths to try and label them as “Domestic Terrorist” acts.  (Another in the news as I ready this for post)

The media is all over this terminology…..pundits are spending countless hours making the case for it.

The problem is there is NO unified definition of what a domestic terrorist act details.

A good place to start is here…..

The number of bereaved families and friends of those massacred by white terrorists in the United States tragically continues to expand. Within the last year alone bodies riddled with the bullets of military-style weapons lay strewn on the streets of large cities like Pittsburgh and El Paso to small towns like Poway and Gilroy. Fueled by anti-Semitic and anti-Hispanic rhetoric, the paranoid projections and racist rhetoric of white nationalism and white supremacy have been weaponized into white terrorism.

Yet white terrorism also stalks those seeking refuge at our southern border. Imagine a distraught mother, reeling from the murder of her child. With other young children at risk, she decides to begin a perilous journey to escape any further violence. Because she hopes to prevent being attacked on the long trek, she joins with others, equally at risk. Having only a vague hope of joining distant relatives once she arrives at her destination, she and her children withstand the many deprivations over the long haul. Finally, arriving at what she has been told is a land of refuge, her children are ripped from her care. She, in turn, is taken to an overcrowded caged facility where she finds hundreds of others languishing in deplorable conditions.

White Terrorism

That said….why is this act of terrorism so difficult?

The best is from the Patriot Act…..remember that?

Section 802 of the USA PATRIOT Act (Pub. L. No. 107-52) expanded the definition of terrorism to cover “”domestic,”” as opposed to international, terrorism. A person engages in domestic terrorism if they do an act “dangerous to human life” that is a violation of the criminal laws of a state or the United States, if the act appears to be intended to: (i) intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping. Additionally, the acts have to occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States and if they do not, may be regarded as international terrorism.

Section 802 does not create a new crime of domestic terrorism. However, it does expand the type of conduct that the government can investigate when it is investigating “terrorism.” The USA PATRIOT Act expanded governmental powers to investigate terrorism, and some of these powers are applicable to domestic terrorism.

The definition of domestic terrorism is broad enough to encompass the activities of several prominent activist campaigns and organizations. Greenpeace, Operation Rescue, Vieques Island and WTO protesters and the Environmental Liberation Front have all recently engaged in activities that could subject them to being investigated as engaging in domestic terrorism.

Do not mistake my words for some sort of opposition….I want these low life slugs punished but there is the chance that unless we are careful then we could allow the government to go too far….as they have done on so many other issues.

Beware Calls in US for Domestic ‘Terrorism’ Laws

As usual the debate and discussion will go on and on…..and the shooting deaths will go on and on……

At least one GOPer has some courage…..Sen. McSally of Arizona….

“For too long we have allowed those who commit heinous acts of domestic terrorism to be charged with related crimes that don’t portray the full scope of their hateful actions,” says GOP Sen. Martha McSally. And so on Wednesday she revealed she plans to do something about it. The Arizona senator released a discussion draft of a new bill that would make domestic terrorism a distinct federal crime—and CBS News explains why that would be necessary: “Domestic terrorism is defined in the US legal code but it is not codified as a law that can be prosecuted.” As such, federal authorities end up charging those suspected of domestic terrorism with other offenses, like hate crimes or weapons possession.

McSally explained the ramifications of that to CBS: It “makes it more difficult to track acts of domestic terror and reduces uniformity in charging and sentencing.” The Arizona Republic reports she’ll introduce the bill once the Senate’s summer recess ends. Politico sees her move as a sign that Republicans are “getting serious” about responding to the recent wave of mass shootings with legislation. It offers context for McSally, too: She’s going head to head with Mark Kelly in the state’s 2020 special election for John McCain’s seat, “a contest in which firearms and fighting crime will loom large.”

How far will this go in a do nothing Senate controlled by cowards and spineless toads?

This is a problem in search of a solution and all concerned are looking in the wrong direction.

Like I said…just a small selection of my thoughts and posts on the subject of gun violence….

After last weekend I feel I need to repeat myself on guns and violence.

I will begin by saying I am pro gun…I have many guns….but I also see the need for some sort of definitive action to try and put the brakes on this spiral of violence that we are living.

Tuesday night panic broke out in NYC because of a motorcycle backfire…..watch the video here….

The mass shootings over the weekend in El Paso and Dayton have everyone on edge, and that anxiety played out Tuesday night in New York City after a loud sound sent people running. ABC News reports that thousands of locals and tourists in Times Square started screaming and fleeing in panic around 10pm when several motorcycles cruising through the area suddenly backfired, making people think weapons had been fired. “All of a sudden I heard this kind of muffled pop and said, ‘What was that,’ and I looked over and there was just a sea of people running,” one bystander tells WABC.

Some people sought shelter in nearby stores, as well as in other buildings. One place that people rushed into: the nearby Shubert Theatre, where To Kill a Mockingbird starring Jeff Daniels is enjoying its current run. “Screaming civilians tried to storm our theater for safety,” cast member Gideon Glick tweeted afterward. “The audience started screaming and the cast fled the stage. This is the world we live in. This cannot be our world.” Vulture notes police were able to tamp down the theater’s chaos, which interrupted a performance of the play, within a few minutes. The FDNY says nine people were treated for minor injuries after the incident.

Fear has taken hold of the American people.

It is partly because of the 24 hour news cycle….every channel has never ending coverage of each shooting….some reports last weeks with a continuous loop to the violence….people are starting to fear for their lives….keep in mind the attention span of most Americans is 30-45 seconds.

Was this a good thing?

Depends on how one cares to look at it.

This could force the spineless Congress to actually get something done….or it will just keep the people hiding in the closet waiting for the government to do something to protect them….and they will wait.

Or we could listen to those that blame everything but the person doing the shooting….they blame video games…..they blame the internet….they blame cell phones for rotting their brains….they blame so much and have so little proof that any of it is responsible….but yet the free acquisition of firearms does have its proof.

I mean think about it….does anyone need a semi auto rifle with a 100 round magazine to defend their home?  I they cannot shoot any better than that then buy a damn shotgun and your ineptitude with a gun can be overcome.

I blame the MSM for the panic the American people….their look into every aspect of a shooters life and family does little to solve the violence problem.  And the forced debate by the MSM does nothing as well.

We have had decades of lip service…..and decades of violence…..the so-called “debate” has accomplished nothing.

So what will this latest act of domestic violence bring forth?

Gun violence debate is just about as worthless as the so-called race debate….lots of lip service with NO action.

Our leader is not innocent in the BS……

“I am concerned about the rise of any group of hate, I don’t like it,” he told reporters. “Any group of hate, whether it’s white supremacy, whether it’s any other kind of supremacy, whether it’s antifa. Whether it’s any group of hate.”

“I am very concerned about it and I’ll do something about it.”

More Of The Gun Debate

I asked what if anything our dear beloved supreme leader would have to say or do…..I got my answer…..

The president on Monday spoke out against the weekend shootings in Texas and Ohio, first on Twitter and then in a 10-minute address from the Diplomatic Reception Room. Trump tweeted in part that “Republicans and Democrats must come together and get strong background checks, perhaps marrying…. ….this legislation with desperately needed immigration reform. We must have something good, if not GREAT, come out of these two tragic events!” CNN reports he did not mention background checks in his subsequent scripted remarks, where he spoke out against the internet, social media, and “the gruesome and grizzly video games that are now commonplace.” The president said that “in one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry, and white supremacy. Hatred warps the mind, ravages the heart and devours the soul.”

In the AP‘s view, Trump didn’t get specific about solutions and “signaled he would oppose large-scale gun control efforts pushed by Democrats,” which the AP saw as evident in his comment that “mental illness and hatred pulls the trigger, not the gun.” The Washington Post, however, heard a number of “possible steps,” including a mention of “red-flag laws” designed to better surface mentally ill people who should be barred from buying guns. One other comment that gained attention: his closing remarks, in which USA Today reports Trump mistakenly stated, “May God bless the memory of those who died in Toledo. May God protect them.”

Dude the attack was in Dayton….not in Toledo.  I thought he watched the news.

Ever noticed how stiff and uncomfortable Trump appears when he has to stick to script?

We now have what Trump will do to prevent this from happening again…..control video games…..

Video games are partly to blame for mass shootings, Donald Trump has said.

Games that “celebrate violence” should be discouraged and made harder to buy, the president suggested.

“We must stop the glorification of violence in our society,” he said during a speech in the wake of a spate of shootings. “This includes the gruesome and grisly video games that are now commonplace.

“It is too easy today for troubled youth to surround themselves with a culture that celebrates violence. We must stop or substantially reduce this, and it has to begin immediately.”

That ought to make a difference.  The country can sleep well tonight.

Yet another cop out by a Repub on gun violence…..as usual and expected.

“It’s like this speech was written in an alternative universe where none of the things Trump did over the last month happened,” tweeted HuffPost reporter Igor Bobic.

Trump delivered the speech—his first public appearance since the tragedies—Monday morning from the White House flanked by Vice President Mike Pence. “In one voice our nation must condemn racism, bigotry, and white supremacy,” Trump said.

“These sinister ideologies must be defeated,” he continued. “Hate has no place in America.”

Homeboy Trump screwed up the city and then there is old Uncle Joe Biden who screwed up the state….

The Washington Examiner reports Joe Biden made a bigger goof at a San Diego fundraiser Sunday night when he referenced “the tragic events in Houston today and also in Michigan the day before.”

In usual fashion Biden avoided offering any real solutions for the problem…..lip service is NOT a solution…as we well know after decades upon decades of violence and death.

This is exhausting.

Domestic Terror

Is the chance of a domestic terror attack unlikely?  Will it be a thing of the past?

Most of the terrorist attacks in this country have mostly been from homegrown terrorists….and not all have been zealots…..more than our Fearless leader wants to admit have been Right wing nutcases…..sadly whether you believe it or not our President is not helping the situation………….

Politics quickly eclipsed horror after Robert Bowers allegedly gunned down 11 worshipers at a Pittsburgh synagogue in October. The shooting, the worst anti-Semitic attack in American history, almost immediately became intertwined with Donald Trump’s divisive presidency. While the president appropriately condemned a “wicked act of murder” and anti-Semitism in general, he also quickly veered toward his own domestic political agenda, telling reporters that the shooting was not related to permissive gun laws and, in fact, “if they had some kind of a protection inside the temple, maybe it could have been a very much different situation, but they didn’t. And he was able to do things that unfortunately he shouldn’t have been able to do.”

Progressive Jews in Pittsburgh expressed their anger at the president, circulating a petition asking him not to visit the city because he had failed to condemn white nationalism and had targeted minorities in general. Trump then, of course, tweeted against the “Fake News” media for how they were covering the story.

Trump’s Department Of Homeland Security has decided that since there are NO domestic terrorists they will shutdown the department that tries to isolate and stop any attacks on the Homeland……..

The Department of Homeland Security has disbanded a group of intelligence analysts who focused on domestic terrorism, The Daily Beast has learned. Numerous current and former DHS officials say they find the development concerning, as the threat of homegrown terrorism—including white supremacist terrorism—is growing.

In the wake of this move, officials said the number of analytic reports produced by DHS about domestic terrorism, including the threat from white supremacists, has dropped significantly. People in and close to the department said this has generated significant concern at headquarters.

“It’s especially problematic given the growth in right-wing extremism and domestic terrorism we are seeing in the U.S. and abroad,” one former intelligence official told The Daily Beast.

Maybe this was a duplication of effort…if so then it needs to go….but that is about the only reason I can think of right now……
