That Antiquated Electoral College Con

It is that time of the season…..we have been through the caucuses and primaries the determining the electoral votes for candidates….and then in November the presidential candidates will be assigned votes by the EC to help determine who will win the presidential contest.

Personally this system is a bag of cons that stretches back for over 200 years. I have let my feelings known on several occasions during the many election cycles I have written about….

What Do You Know About The Electoral College?

I want to be fair so I include a post I wrote that is pro electoral college….

Electoral College: Reasons Not To Abolish

This is for those too lazy to read the previous posts…..

Established by Article II, Section I of the Constitution, the Electoral College calls for the creation every four years of a temporary group of electors equal to the total number of representatives in Congress.

Electors, often chosen for their service to and support of a political party, are typically nominated at state party conventions and then voted on by the delegates. After this initial phase of the process, each party’s presidential candidate emerges with their own slate of potential electors. When Americans cast their ballot for president and vice president on the first Tuesday in November, they are technically casting a ballot for the slate of electors who have pledged to cast their votes for that party.

It is this group of 538 people – the formula is the same that gives us 100 senators and 435 representatives (plus three electors representing Washington D.C.) who meet in their respective states and cast their official votes for president and vice president on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December.

https://www.realclearhistory.com/articles/2024/06/28/america_101_why_the_electoral_college_1040859.html

Not that I am in favor of keeping this albatross…..

I agree that the system has outlived its usefulness and only strengthens the two party dictatorship…..

The Electoral College tie break has been the Achilles heel of America’s electoral process since the beginning. (And it’s one of the many reasons George Washington warned against the formation of political parties in the first place. C’est la vie.) Here’s how it works: In the event that no presidential candidate wins over the magical majority vote of 270 electors, the decision is sent to Congress where each state delegation gets one vote. Whoever receives a majority of the states is elected president. Simple enough?

Here’s the catch: Even before there was a two-party system, the one-state-one-vote method quickly devolved into a duel.

There’s one simple alternative to forcing people to pick between a nursing home resident-in-training and a spray-tanned cult leader: Pass a Constitutional amendment changing the Electoral College tie break from a congressional vote to a run-off election between the top two candidates. This would not only give independents a fighting chance, but it would also promote the emergence of third-party congressional candidates campaigning behind the element they currently lack: a realistic presidential hopeful.

https://www.realclearhistory.com/articles/2024/02/02/reform_the_electoral_college_undo_the_two-party_system_1009005.html

Time to think about changing a lot of things in the government….like simplified tax code, a national primary, easier to actually vote and dumping the electoral college.

This is our country….time that those we send to Congress listen to the people and their concerns and wishes…..lobbyists have had their run….shut down “K” Street.

This idea is why I said what I said…..

Arizona bill recently introduced by a GOP state legislator.

State Sen. Anthony Kern (R-27) is spearheading Senate Concurrent Resolution 1014, which says that “the Legislature, and no other official, shall appoint presidential electors.” If it passes both chambers, the measure could appear on the November ballot.

As Arizona Republic columnist EJ Montini wrote earlier this month, “In other words, if such a law had existed when Biden beat Trump, the majority MAGA Legislature could have ignored the will of Arizona voters and appointed like-minded electors of their choosing who, in turn, could have installed Dear Leader as the victor.”

Someone other than the voter picks who gets the electoral votes…..now do you see why I say what I say?

The electoral college (to be redundant) has long out lived it’s usefulness….many times over….

Is This Voter Suppression?

We hear about all the attempts being made around the country to try and find ways to keep voters from voting….all under the guise of preventing voter fraud, which by the way is NOT a major problem but is being used to rev up the idiots.

Seems a mayor in Wisconsin has a way to try and control who gets to vote.

The mayor of a central Wisconsin city who ran for office on his opposition to absentee ballot drop boxes said Wednesday he did nothing wrong when he put on work gloves, donned a hard, hat and used a dolly, to cart away a drop box outside City Hall. Wausau Mayor Doug Diny posed for a picture Sunday to memorialize his removal of the city’s lone drop box, which had been put outside City Hall around the same time late last week that absentee ballots were sent to voters, the AP reports. The city’s election clerk, Kaitlyn Bernarde, said she has reported the issue to the Marathon County district attorney as well as the state elections commission.

This is no different than the maintenance guy moving it out there,” Diny said Wednesday. “I’m a member of staff. There’s nothing nefarious going on here. I’m hoping for a good result.”

  • The move, which sparked a protest in the city Tuesday night and anger among drop box advocates, is the latest example in swing state Wisconsin of the fight over whether communities will allow absentee ballot drop boxes.
  • After former Donald Trump lost the state in 2020, he and some Republicans alleged that drop boxes facilitated cheating, even though they offered no evidence. Democrats, election officials, and other Republicans argued the boxes are secure. The Wisconsin Supreme Court, then controlled by conservatives, banned the use of drop boxes in 2022. But in July, the now-liberal controlled court reversed that decision and said drop boxes could be used. However, the court left it up to each community to decide whether to install them.
  • More than 60 towns, villages, and cities in nine of the state’s 72 counties have opted out of using absentee ballot drop boxes for the presidential election in November, according to a tally by the group All Voting is Local. Drop boxes are being embraced in heavily Democratic cities including Milwaukee and Madison.
  • Diny ran as a conservative and was backed by the Republican Party in the nonpartisan mayor’s race. He is in his first year as Wausau mayor after being elected in April. Diny said that he and the city clerk never discussed the drop box before it was placed outside City Hall late last week. Diny said he decided Sunday to act when he realized the drop box was “not secure.”
  • Bernarde said Wednesday that the city planned to “secure the drop box to the ground” and unlock it, but it was removed before that could be done. The box was locked and contained no ballots, she said. It is a felony in Wisconsin to impede or prevent “the free exercise of the franchise at an election.”
  • Wausau resident Pamela Bannister, speaking at a city council meeting Tuesday night, called for Diny to apologize and return the drop box. “This is the kind of action that’s designed to stir the pot,” Bannister said. “It does not tamp down the rhetoric that we’re all facing in this election cycle. It accomplishes nothing positive and amounts to, in my estimation, voting interference and intimidation.”

So I ask again is this an attempt at voter suppression?

Will Georgia Be Ground Zero?

Many people are saying that Trump will unleash his minions to bring chaos to the 2024 election if he does not win….

A sizable minority of Americans said they would try to invalidate the presidential election results depending on which candidate wins, according to a new poll. In the latest World Justice Project survey, 14% of Republicans said they would “take action to overturn the 2024 election based solely on who is declared the winner.” Eleven percent of Democrats said they would do the same.

The survey — which is completed annually — also found widespread distrust in elections and the courts that arbitrate them. “Today, trust in many U.S. institutions, government accountability, and overall rule of law is considerably lower than it was ahead of the 2020 election,” Elizabeth Andersen, the executive director of the World Justice Project — which works to advance the rule of law around the globe — said in a statement.

….and it is shaping up that Georgia may be the ground zero that they are looking for.

There have been several reports of the antics by Trump loyalists in the background in Georgia.

A network of county election officials in Georgia is strategizing behind the scenes to help Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

The Guardian, along with Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, obtained emails through a public records request from a group calling itself the Georgia Election Integrity Coalition, which includes election officials from at least five counties in the state. The emails show favoritism by the group toward Trump, as well as efforts by the group to show fraud in the 2024 elections, despite no vote yet having been cast.

Emails were sent between the officials, as well as election deniers in Georgia and around the country. These included groups like the Tea Party Patriots, or TPP, and the Election Integrity Network, or EIN, a group founded by former Trump adviser Cleta Mitchell. Members include Michael Heekin, a Republican member of the Fulton County board of elections, and his colleague Julie Adams, Debbie Fisher of Cobb County, Nancy Jester of DeKalb County, and Roy McClain of Spalding County. All of them have a history of refusing to certify election results, and Adams works directly for the TPP and EIN.

In the emails, members discuss how to combat scrutiny, in one case regarding a letter from a Democratic attorney warning officials against refusing to certify election results. Adams sent a different email under her Tea Party Patriots address with a meeting agenda including an item about a “New York Times reporter traveling to several counties in Georgia.”

https://newrepublic.com/post/186116/emails-georgia-election-officials-trump-chaos

The chaos has already started with early voting….in Georgia….

Georgia is one of the battleground states seen as crucial to deciding the next president, but don’t be surprised if the state can’t report results on election night. The state board of elections on Friday voted 3-2 to require all counties to hand-count ballots to verify the machine count, reports USA Today. As the Washington Post notes, that has the potential to delay results for days or weeks because only the smallest counties will be able to get the count done by the next day, as mandated. “Military ballots have already been issued,” complained Ethan Compton, elections supervisor in the state’s Irwin County. “The election has begun. This is not the time to change the rules. That will only lower the integrity of our elections.”

Voting rights advocates were similarly irked, saying the late change has the potential to not only delay the count but “lay the groundwork for spurious challenges,” per Reuters. The board is controlled by three members approved by Donald Trump, who has previously praised them as “pit bulls,” notes USA Today. One of them, Janelle King, has said her mission is “to ensure that every vote is counted accurately and every election is conducted correctly going forward.” NPR has called the state a “must-win” for both Trump and Kamala Harris.

For a more detailed analysis then this article would help….

https://www.commondreams.org/news/georgia-hand-count

If you recall Georgia was a Trump favorite to find and disqualify a number of ballots making him the winner….so I would expect nothing less than a similar attempt in 2024.

Great stuff, huh?

We Need Stricter Voting Laws

It is that time again….time to elect an president and it is that time again when the voter is attempted to be pushed aside in the name of preventing voter fraud.

Then there is Texas (it’s always Texas)…..

It seems that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton will do anything to prevent Texas from flipping for Kamala Harris—including preventing eligible citizens from registering to vote.*

Paxton threatened legal action against Bexar and Harris counties if they proceed with sending out mail-in voter registration forms, which the counties have proposed doing via third-party vendors. Paxton argues that it could encourage noncitizens to register to vote.

Paxton’s office announced Wednesday that he’d filed a lawsuit against Bexar County Commissioner Court after it approved a proposal that funds the production and mailing of voter registration forms “to unregistered voters in location(s) based on targeting agreed to by the county,” according to KENS-5. Paxton claimed the program was unlawful because it “could induce ineligible people—such as felons and noncitizens—to commit a crime by attempting to register to vote.”

https://newrepublic.com/post/185585/ken-paxton-threatens-sue-democrats-voter-registration

We cannot have those damn Democrats voting now can we?

A look into voting….I will keep this short and very simple….

Rampant voter fraud is a LIE perpetrated by Republicans….so do we need stricter voting laws?  (BTW most convicted fraudsters have been on the GOP side)

Nope. Not even close. Once again, this falls into the Lloyd Christmas category. Successful prosecutions of voter fraud cases barely amount to one one-hundredth of one percent of total votes cast in a single general election. In Ohio, for example, Secretary of State Jon Husted ballyhooed his war against fraud by nabbing a whopping 20 potential cases. 20 out of nearly six million votes cast in that state in 2012. The Bush Justice Department found that there were as few as 80 successful prosecutions of voter fraud cases out of hundreds of millions of votes cast since 2000. For this ratio of possible-fraud-to-votes-cast we’re told we need laws that make it more difficult to vote. By the way, some Republicans came right out and said it: this is all about electing Republicans.

That’s it. It’s of course foolish to think the Republicans will drop these lies and myths any time soon. But as long as various Republicans continue to repeat these transparently obvious falsehoods, they should expect that the rest of us will continue to think they’re either idiots or that they’re deliberately trying to deceive their own people — or maybe a little of both.

(huffpost.com)

Voting should be easier and hardly a herculean task…..all this crap is just to make it easy for the GOP to have their way with the system.

In my state you need ID to register then when you go to vote you present registration card and photo ID twice….this has worked well for decades and yet they, the GOP, expect massive voter fraud.  It is pure manure!

When it comes to voter info do not listen or read crap on-line….go to the registrars office and get your info first hand….that is if you are not too damn lazy.

Now get out and VOTE!

2024 Issues: Taxes

The election is less than 2 months away and the perfect time to learn about the issues and what your candidate has to say about them….

Financebuzz has broken it down very simply for easy understanding…..

As voters wait on both presidential candidates to unveil more details on their economic agendas, Trump and Harris are calling for tax changes that could impact millions of people in the United States. Both have proposed tax cuts and increases that would require congressional approval.

Trump on tax cuts

It may be no surprise that Trump plans to preserve at least some of the individual and business tax cuts put in place via his TCJA. According to the Trump campaign, those tax cuts benefited millions of Americans and can help the millions of people who are dealing with the impacts of inflation and higher prices.

The campaign said the individual tax cuts and business tax reforms would help spur economic growth and confront higher costs of living without inflationary government spending.

Harris on tax cuts

Though Harris herself may not have directly addressed TCJA extensions so far on the campaign trail, there has been some Democratic support. In fact, President Joe Biden’s top economic advisor voiced support for partial extensions. According to the Tax Foundation, Harris has a record of favoring steeper tax hikes on businesses and people than President Biden.

Harris on tax increases

Trump and Harris have both said they will address the budget deficit. They have both proposed plans to raise revenue. Again, keep in mind tax law changes require approval by Congress.

According to the Harris campaign, she will push to increase the corporate tax rate to 28%, up from the 21% put in place through the TCJA. That could potentially reduce the deficit by $1.3 trillion over a decade, according to the Treasury Department.

She also proposes to raise taxes on high-income people, raising the top marginal income rate to 39.6% from 37%. She also proposes taxing investment gains of $1 million or more at the ordinary income rate instead of the lower capital gains rate.

Trump on tax increases

In a pitch that seems to find great support from his base, Trump has called for sweeping tariffs, which are taxes levied on imported goods. Further, the former president suggested he’s looking at putting in place a policy of tariffs that would lead to the elimination of the federal income tax.

Trump on tip taxes

The Trump and Harris campaigns have both talked about the idea of eliminating income tax on tip income. Trump made the proposal well before Harris. In fact, his pitch drew a mixed reaction.

The former president has also called for no taxes on Social Security income. Social Security has been a hot issue this election season amid fears of the finances for the program and related ones.

Harris on tip taxes

In a more recent move, Harris also talked about the idea of eliminating taxes on tip income. She said it’s part of her commitment to fight for working families, which she said also includes a plan to raise the minimum wage.

I do not see where either candidate will improve low income workers’ lives.

Former President Donald Trump wants to increase tariffs, while his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, wants to raise the corporate income tax rate. They say you need not worry about the consequences of these tax hikes because someone else will pay the tab.

Don’t believe them. Both proposals would impair economic growth and impose substantial costs on ordinary Americans, extending far beyond the advertised targets.

Trump and Harris Both Favor Tax Hikes That Would Hurt Ordinary Americans

“High Status Males”

I have always thought that Elon Musk was pretty much a douche bag from the start of his loud mouth beginnings.

But he exceeded himself when he decided to buy Twitter and make it his personal platform for stupid. And then his idiotic endorsement of Trump just added to me dislike of this individual and it has not slowed down at all.

One of his latest moronic ramblings…..

Elon Musk has used his large platform on X to promote a theory that a free-thinking “Republic” could only exist under the decision-making of “high status males” – and women or “low T men” would not be welcome in it.

On Sunday, Musk re-posted a screenshot of the theory – which appears to have been conceived on 4chan in 2021– on the social media site.

The theory, written by an anonymous user, suggests that the only people able to think freely are “high [testostrone] alpha males” and “aneurotypical people”, and that these “high status males” should run a “Republic” that is “only for those who are free to think.”

“People who can’t defend themselves physically (women and low T men) parse information through a consensus filter as a safety mechanism,” the post reads.

“Only high T alpha males and aneurotypical people (hey autists!) are actually free to parse new information with an objective ‘is this true?’ filter,” it adds. “This is why a Republic of high status males is best for decision making. Democratic, but a democracy only for those who are free to think.”

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/elon-musk-trump-harris-high-status-males-4chan-b2606617.html

What a misogynistic prick!

This from the same egotistical a/hole that wants to send his sperm to Mars so he can populate the planet…..and this from the guy the endorsed Trump and is rewarded with the possible seat of power within a Trump admin…..

If Donald Trump wins the election, he will have a big job for Elon Musk. In a speech at the Economic Club of New York on Thursday, Trump said Musk will lead a commission that will save “trillions of dollars” in government spending. “I will create a government efficiency commission tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government and making recommendations for drastic reforms,” Trump said, per CNN. He said it was the “suggestion of Elon Musk, who has given me his complete and total endorsement.”

Musk floated the idea during a talk with Trump weeks ago, in which Trump praised him as the “greatest cutter” of employees. “I look forward to serving America if the opportunity arises,” Musk said in a post on X Thursday. “No pay, no title, no recognition is needed.” Asked by the BBC if the role had been formally agreed on, campaign adviser Brian Hughes said, “It is premature to discuss any prospective personnel in the next administration, but we welcome the enthusiasm and support of Elon Musk.”

  • Conflicts of interest. The Wall Street Journal notes that while it’s not unusual for business leaders to serve on advisory groups, the proposed role will raise many conflict-of-interest issues. Musk’s companies are regulated by numerous federal agencies and SpaceX’s biggest customers include NASA and the Pentagon. “Musk’s business interests are so broad and so intermingled with the federal government, it’s hard to imagine guardrails that could address his conflicts,” says Washington University law professor Kathleen Clark, who specializes in government ethics.

Just what this country needs a ‘purge czar’….someone that will lead the witch hunt in DC to rid people that will oppose Trump.

At what point does the idiot voter see the ludicrous ideas of Musk and his new master Trump propose?

Vance Is A Piece Of…

++++Note–This will be my only post today because I am having a procedure done as an out patient and I am not sure how long I will be at the hospital….hopefully I will be back in true form Friday.++++

There is a person running for the second highest office in the land that can be est describe as a POS. His positions are so out there that they are looking back at pathetic.

Pretty much everybody is aware of his feelings about women and immigrants but he just keeps opening mouth and lying and when not lying is inserting foot into that mouth.

His thoughts on child day care…..

In his latest comments on parenthood and young families, Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance on Wednesday weighed in on how to best help parents who struggle to pay for childcare—but instead of offering a policy solution, the U.S. senator from Ohio punted the obligation to grandparents and other extended family members across the country.

At an event hosted by right-wing activist Charlie Kirk of Turning Point Action in Mesa, Arizona, Vance replied to a question about lowering childcare costs by saying he wants to “make it easier for families to choose whatever model they want.”

But Vance appeared to base his answer on the assumption that what families want—and what they haven’t already considered on their own—is childcare help from their family members.

“One of the ways that you might be able to relieve a little bit of pressure on people who are paying so much for daycare is make it so that—maybe, like, grandma or grandpa wants to help out a little bit more, or maybe there’s an aunt or uncle who wants to help out a little more,” said Vance. “If that happens, you relieve some of the pressure on all the resources that we’re spending at daycare.”

https://www.commondreams.org/news/jd-vance-on-childcare

Vance hates immigrants so bad that he is accusing them of dog-napping…..

Police in Springfield, Ohio, have issued some unusual words of comfort for residents: Despite rumors to the contrary, they haven’t received any reports of pets being abducted and eaten, reports the Springfield News-Sun. The claim originated in a viral, unsubstantiated post on a private Facebook group of Springfield residents (screenshot here) that pointed the blame at the city’s growing population of Haitian immigrants. The claim has since gotten a boost from figures including JD Vance. Details:

  • Vance: “Months ago, I raised the issue of Haitian illegal immigrants draining social services and generally causing chaos all over Springfield, Ohio,” tweeted Vance, the running mate of Donald Trump who represents Ohio in the Senate. “Reports now show that people have had their pets abducted and eaten by people who shouldn’t be in this country. Where is our border czar?” Elon Musk was among those picking up on the pet-eating claims.
  • Not happening: Springfield city manager Bryan Heck shot down the claim, as did police: “In response to recent rumors alleging criminal activity by the immigrant population in our city, we wish to clarify that there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community,” Heck wrote in an email to the Hill. He added, however, that the rumors distracted from the city’s real “problems with housing, resources for our schools, and an overwhelmed healthcare system” because of the immigrant influx.
  • New arrivals: The city does indeed have a large Haitian population, with city officials estimating that 20,000 Haitians have arrived since the pandemic, reports the New York Times. A city FAQ explains they arrived legally under the Immigration Parole Program and were allowed to apply for temporary protected status (TPS). They are working legally “in various industries that are in great need of workers,” says the FAQ page.
  • The strain: The influx represents a sizable bump to Springfield, which had a population of about 58,000 in the 2020 census. “By most accounts, the immigrant community has helped revitalize the town,” per the Times, but, as Heck noted, it has put a strain on existing housing, schools, and hospitals.
  • Vance, Cruz: “Senator Vance has received a high volume of calls and emails over the past several weeks from concerned citizens in Springfield: his tweet is based on what he is hearing from them,” says a spokesperson, who blamed VP Kamala Harris for the White House’s immigration policies. In June, the US extended the TPS designation for Haiti, notes the Hill. GOP Sen. Ted Cruz also piled on, notes the Washington Post. He reposted a meme showing frightened cats with the text, “Please vote for Trump so Haitian immigrants don’t eat us.”

In true form….Repubs do what they do best LIE….and LIE again!

Anyone that votes GOP is a bigger problem than the candidates.

Win Or Lose–Violence Will Ensue

So close to poetic.

Recently our boy Donnie made the statement that he has every right to interfere in an election….

Donald Trump’s remarks Sunday on the updated election interference indictment contained what sounded to some critics like a confession. The former president told Mark Levin on Fox News’ Life, Liberty and Levin that he had “every right” to interfere in the 2020 election, the Hill reports. “It’s so crazy that my poll numbers go up. Whoever heard you get indicted for interfering with a presidential election where you have every right to do it,” Trump said in the interview, per Reuters. “You get indicted and your poll numbers go up.”

Poll numbers go up?  How pathetic is that?  But sadly apparently true.

2024 will be an election like no other in memory….the outcome could bring upon us a chance for violence. I am not talking about if Trump loses but even if he wins the chance for violence is there…..

There’s an argument to be made that the defining moment of Donald Trump’s presidency, if not the past decade of politics at large, was Jan. 6, 2021, when a violent mob of MAGA protesters stormed the U.S. Capitol building to disrupt Congress’ certification of Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 election. The images from that day — lawmakers cowering behind security forces with their guns drawn, a mock gallows erected outside the Capitol rotunda, a braying “QAnon Shaman” stalking the Senate chambers — have become an indelible reminder that America is just as susceptible to political violence as anywhere else. It is perhaps even more so, given Trump’s penchant for actively stoking the flames of resentment and frustration across his already fervent base.

Now, as the 2024 presidential election kicks into high gear with just three months to go before polls close in November, the specter of violence once again looms large over an electorate still grappling with the legal and political fallout of Jan. 6. In a Reuters/Ipsos poll taken this spring, more than two-thirds of respondents — Democrats and Republicans alike — said they were “concerned that extremists will resort to violence if they are unhappy with the election outcome.” A more recent Deseret News/HarrisX poll saw three-fourths of the country “concerned about more political violence occurring before Election Day.”

The Wardrobe, The Expressions And The Debate

Last night was the much awaited debate between Trump and Harris….so much has been written and said about this event that I feel I will be disappointed…..and yes as a political junkie I will be watching.

The candidates came out and as usual we dressed drably…Trump in navy suit with hideous red tie….Harris in a signature pant suit…black in color….nothing there.

Facial expressions….the split screen offered a superb look at candidates facial expressions at the answer given by opponent….some very humorous.

Did Harris separate from Biden?  Did either candidate bait the other into doing something stupid?

Harris tried but there was a lot of Biden in her responses….Trump got handed his butt on several issues which angered him and he would swing wildly with false claims and BS.

But the best takeaway is the Harris did a good job at getting under Trump’s skin.

One common early takeaway from Tuesday night’s presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump: Harris seemed to be able to get under Trump’s skin, “rattling” him and putting him on the defensive:

  • Harris taunted Trump “over and over” on topics he’s particularly sensitive about, including the size of his rally crowds and how he’s viewed by world leaders, write Adam Cancryn and Myah Ward at Politico. “The result left Trump … struggling to land hits,” they write, recounting how he went from “measured and collected” to “increasingly frustrated as Harris needled him.” At one point, as he was goaded into bragging about the size of his rallies, Harris simply “looked on, smirking and shaking her head.”
  • Harris spent the entire debate “making every effort to burrow under his skin, hammering him over his criminal convictions, his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, the size of his rally crowds and the foreign and military leaders who she said have called him a ‘disgrace,'” writes Nicholas Nehamas at the New York Times. And Trump often couldn’t help himself and “took the bait, responding to Ms. Harris’s critiques with a hail of false claims, misinformation and personal attacks.”
  • The VP had clearly “prepared extensively for their debate, and peppered nearly every answer with a comment designed to enrage the former president,” writes the team at CNN. The result, they say, was a Trump who was “often out of control.” Harris’ goal appeared to be to “throw Trump off his game,” and, they write, it was “a dramatic success.”
  • The former president “was on the defensive over his legal problems, election denialism, opposition from former allies and incitement of an attack on the US Capitol,” writes Zac Anderson at USA Today. He floundered as he struggled to hit back, and “often leaned on familiar and false claims that drew corrections from the moderators.” The result was that Harris had the “upper hand” much of the time, he writes.
  • Even at Fox News, Doug Schoen concedes Harris was the “clear winner,” but says Trump’s supporters are well aware of “how much bias ABC News introduced into the process” with the moderators’ seeming “need to fact-check virtually everything the former president said.” Schoen says despite Harris’ debate performance, “Voters remain angry about the direction the country is headed in, about the performance of both President Biden and Vice President Harris, as well as which candidate they trust more on the top two or three issues facing the country: the economy, immigration and law and order.”

The swing-state voters polled by the Washington Post also agreed Harris won, even if they personally plan to vote for Trump.

As for whether the two will debate again before November, that remains unclear. Per USA Today, Harris’ campaign said after the debate that it wants to “do it again,” and Trump has previously said he’d be willing to debate the VP multiple times. But no firm plans have yet been made.

This debate shows that extensive prep work pays off for Harris and the idea of lackluster prep was the downfall for Trump in this debate.

But for me the telling part of the whole night were the candidates closing remarks….

Donald Trump won a coin toss before Tuesday night’s debate and chose to go last with his closing statement. In it, he called Kamala Harris “the worst vice president in history” and ridiculed her presidential plans by pointing out that she already works in the White House, per the New York Times. “Why hasn’t she done it?” Trump asked, a refrain that might become a common one in the final stretch of the campaign.

Harris, for her part, struck a more moderate tone in her closing remarks as she made a plea for unity, per the Hill: “That’s the kind of president we need right now. Someone who cares about you and is not putting themselves first,” she said. “I intend to be a president for all Americans and focus on what we can do over the next 10 and 20 years to build back up our country.” The debate began with a handshake between the two rivals, but it ended without one, notes Politico.

The night was not a total waste but it was a bit of a bore.  Will there be a next debate?

If I was Trump I would cut my loses and walk away from the promise of yet another debate…..or if he accepts another one then do a bit more prep work so you do not look like a complete dullard.

Now are you glad that I am here so you did not have to suffer through this fiasco?

We all know what d/bag Trump is and he has a way with words….although few are sure what he is talking about most times….but recently at a rally he made some interesting remarks that has many people scratching their heads.

The rally was in Wisconsin and he made what seemed like a threat…..

Donald Trump made a claim at his rally on Saturday that had people worrying about what he meant.

Trump, who spoke in Mosinee, Wisconsin, was called out by CNN for a “lie” about transgender kids. But he also made another statement that caught the attention of political observers on social media, including actress Bette Midler.

“I better win or you’re gonna have problems like we’ve never had. We may have no country left,” Trump said at his weekend swing-state rally. “This may be our last election. You want to know the truth? People have said that. This could be our last election.”

What did he mean by that verbal vomit?

Was it a threat?

Was it just Trump being Trump firing off his mouth before his brain was loaded?

Was it all just a bit of bolster?

What did he mean?

Any thoughts?
