Greenland Returns To The Headlines

After the ‘successful’ attack on Venezuela and the capture of the head of a drug cartel…..Donny and slugs turn their eyes northward….to Grennland (yet again)….

The White House is refusing to rule out a military invasion of Greenland. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told key lawmakers Monday that Trump wants to purchase the vast Arctic territory from Denmark, not invade it, officials tell the New York Times reports. But on the same day, Trump asked aides for an updated plan to “acquire” Greenland. On Tuesday the White House issued a statement saying he has not ruled out using the US military to achieve that goal.

President Trump has made it well known that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority of the United States, and it’s vital to deter our adversaries in the Arctic region,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said, per the AP. “The president and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, utilizing the US military is always an option at the commander in chief’s disposal.”

The leaders of six NATO countries—Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Poland—joined Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in an unusually direct rebuke Tuesday. Security in the Arctic, they said in a joint statement, must be handled “collectively” and in line with UN principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. “Greenland belongs to its people,” they said. “It is for Denmark and Greenland, and them only, to decide on matters concerning Denmark and Greenland.” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also expressed support. Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. Leaders in Denmark and Greenland have repeatedly stressed that Greenland is not for sale.

On Monday, Frederiksen warned that a US military move against Greenland would shatter the NATO alliance. Trump, who has talked about acquiring Greenland since his first term and has also mused about taking over Canada, has described the island as vital to US dominance in the Western Hemisphere and the Arctic.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Tuesday that an invasion of Greenland is “not something that anybody is contemplating seriously,” the Hill reports. The Republican added that he would like to see a deal worked out for expanded US business operations in Greenland. “If there’s something there that could be mutually worked out, obviously it’s of interest to national security and the Arctic,” he said. Earlier Tuesday, White House aide Stephen Miller questioned Denmark’s claim to Greenland and said, “Nobody’s going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland.”

I think Thune is trying to diffuse the situation and is not being honest.

Why would I say such a thing?

Donny pretends he is not seriously considering taking Greenland by force….but is he lying?

“Our country is not an object of superpower rhetoric. We are a people. A land. And democracy. This has to be respected. Especially by close and loyal friends.”

However, as we say, Trump has doubled down again and insisted he’s ‘serious’.

Speaking to NBC on Monday evening (5 January), the US president said: “We need Greenland for national security, and that includes Europe. You know I’m very loyal to Europe. We need it for national security, right now.”

He added: “I think that Greenland is very important for the national security of the United States, Europe, and other parts of the free world.”

Trump admitted he had ‘no timeline’ for putting his plan into place, but maintained that he is ‘very serious’ about it all.

If he is not serious then why keep bringing it up?

Donny’s pathetic nazi Cue ball, Miller, said it all….

“The United States is using its military to secure our interests unapologetically in our hemisphere,” said Miller. “We’re a superpower and under President Trump we are going to conduct ourselves as a superpower. It is absurd that we would allow a nation in our backyard to become the supplier of resources to our adversaries but not to us.”

Instead of “demanding that elections be held” in Venezuela, he added, “the future of the free world depends on America to be able to assert ourselves and our interests without an apology.”

Miller offered one of the most explicit explanations of the White House’s view yet: that “sovereign countries don’t get sovereignty if the US wants their resources,” as Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) translated in a social media post.

So like Donny America has become the bully on the block.

If they have something we want….we take.

Great foreign policy!

And this is what we voted for in the last election….welcome to the “New World Order’…..

  1. I think he is serious about taking over Greenland by force. He has been emboldened by how easy it was to depose Madero, and he is convinced that nobody will militarily retaliate against the US if it occupies Greenland. I tend to agree with him on that, but the other consequences to trade and future diplomatic relations with the US will last for decades. No other country will ever trust America again, even long after Trump is dead. It will be no better than Russia in the eyes of the world, just another out of control dictatorship trying to build a modern-day empire for the Trump dynasty.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. … just another out of control dictatorship — Sums it up perfectly!

I feel so sad for the people of Greenland that this overweight, belligerent, egotistical individual is threatening their way of life … just so he can satisfy his personal need for dominance.

  2. Modern day empire for Trump dynasty ? Who are his heirs or family from which a dynasty may arise ? Not an empire but security geography enhancement against China and Russia economic and military threats. Actually there is no reason to complicate our Greenland relationship. It is a partnership with very integrated economic and military security for both and pleasingly effective as well in its current arrangement.

      1. Agree. Takeovers are problematic and no one in the governmote shold promote such a course . An atmosphere of we/us identity is usually more efficient, stronger and respectful. Successful too. .
