Awhile back some dude stated that in 5 years or so that there would be a war in Europe…..I know many people have been predicting such a situation for many years now but so far they have been just fanciful predictions….
I read today that the nation of Switzerland is modernizing….
Switzerland, long known for its neutrality in global conflicts, is making a major investment in its famous network of bunkers. The country is set to spend more than $1 billion over 15 years to overhaul and modernize public and private shelters, a move driven by security concerns and the war in Ukraine. Starting next year, 200 large bunkers will be upgraded, and fees paid by property developers to fund shelters will rise, the Washington Post reports. Regional governments are also updating aging ventilation and filtration systems, with $1.2 billion earmarked for the work.
Switzerland’s commitment to civil defense is rooted in its history, with a network of roughly 370,000 shelters—enough to secretly assign a spot to nearly every resident. In fact, Switzerland has more bunkers per capita than any other nation, per the Guardian. The shelters, often tucked away in apartment buildings, are designed to withstand nuclear, biological, or chemical attacks. They include reinforced concrete, blast doors, and basic amenities, with requirements like one dry toilet for every 30 people. The country has begun planning for so-called “poly-crisis” scenarios, in which multiple threats hit at once.
Officials also are studying how to keep important services, like schools and businesses, running during emergencies, per the Post. “The economy still has to work during war. That’s what you see in all conflicts nowadays,” said Daniel Jordi, a Swiss civil defense official. He acknowledged the size of the government’s investment. “It’s a huge infrastructure,” he said, “but in the end it’s cheaper than any other measures you could take to protect your population.”
So what do they know that Donny and his band of idiots do not?
The way the US has been stirring the pot of war that has been simmering for decades you would think that civil defense might come up…..so has it?
We cannot depend on FEMA so where do we look for help when the unthinkable happens?
I say no for they are too busy selling their weapons around the world to care about us peons.

The US no longer has anything resembling a nation wide civil defense system. The abandonment of the CD system began even before the Cold War ended. It was supposed to be replaced largely by a combination of federal agencies including FEMA and Homeland Security. But we all know what’s happened to those agencies.
I was involved in emergency communications at the county level some years ago and I wish I could say things were better at the local level, but they aren’t. One of my jobs was to put together a communications plan for the designated emergency shelters in the county. They gave me a huge binder to dig through and… Oh dear lord, the info was literally decades old. Some of the buildings listed as designated shelters didn’t even exist any longer. And of the ones that did, not one single person at the actual building even knew that they were a designated shelter and had absolutely zero resources to deal with an influx of people fleeing a flood or whatever.
The local hospital didn’t even know it had an emergency communications center and no one knew where it was. I only found it because i ran into a semi-retired janitor who vaguely remembered it. The equipment in it dated back to the 1980s and wouldn’t even work with the county’s existing radio systems at all.
At the state level they have lots and lots of big binders and lots and lots of plans, none of which are funded or actually implemented because the state legislature never allocated funding for any of it for “reasons”.
Basically we got nothing.

We should indeed be concerned. The best time to prepare for an emergency is before that emergency actually happens. Unfortunately most of our “emergency preparedness” consists of not doing anything until the emergency actually hits.

I’m sure if that happens, the UK will just allow all the ordinary people to die while the rich, the royals, and the politicians hide in their secret shelters. To be honest, I would not want to live in a post-apocalyptic nightmare world anyway.

I don’t expect war prep for civilian defense in US as cannot even form a workable budget or subdue domestic lawlessness and state and city nullification of all federal directives expanding. I’ve heard preparation for nuke war in US designed to save several hundred thousand only, just enought for some national survival and war repriasals vs enemies. Actually no need for nuke war as tech advanced to shut down any nation’s entire infracture to render any nation not operable.
Think about it Carl, they are dismantling the entire social safety net so who would ever imagine that they will ever do anything about civil defense?

If the government can’t provide a basic safety net for its citizens, you can be damned well assured that they will not be able to handle civil defense for major crises either. Common sense.
