The Ignorant Takeover Of Education

As someone who cherish the education that I have been able to get I am appalled at the lack of concern by our Congress and president for the sad condition of the educational system in this country.

I received a public school education and it was a good one that prepared me to face life and especially my college.

I hate to see what my state (run by GOP lackeys) are doing to the system in Mississippi and then there is the national GOP that hates education altogether

The GOP is trying to loot public education to weaken it….the Repubs favor a voucher system and in some states are looting the public arena to fund these voucher schemes….

In North Carolina, the Republican legislature passed a voucher program with no income limit, no accountability and no requirement that children can’t already go to a private school. This radical plan will cost the state $4 billion over the next 10 years, money that could be going to fully fund our public schools. In Kentucky, legislators are trying to amend our constitution to enshrine their efforts to take taxpayer money from public schools and use it for private schools.

Our public schools serve all children. They provide transportation and meals and educate students with disabilities. And they’re accountable to taxpayers with public assessments showing how students and schools are doing and where they need to improve.

But private schools that get this taxpayer money have little to no accountability. They aren’t even required to hire licensed teachers, provide meals, transportation or services for disabled students. They don’t even have to tell the taxpayers what they teach or how their students perform. North Carolina’s voucher system has been described as “the least regulated private school voucher program in the country.”

This is happening in most Red States and it should be stopped and stopped now!

I am a staunch supporter of public schools….matter of fact I think K-12 should be mandatory and home schooling does not equate.

I have no agreement with my public school education and I think a new standard should be brought forth.

Why do we let the ignorant among us educate our children?

Just asking?

  1. Well then… I am appalled at the lack of concern by our Congress and president for the sad condition of everything in our country –especially the fact that our constitution allows such obsceneties as the radical right wing factions to operate in the confines of our government.

  2. I don’t think private schools can get state accredidation without licensed and degree holding teachers. Grades and diplomas would also be declared invalid by state and public sector private employers and colleges too. Private schools must comply with state protocols and regulations. The issue that red states want stopped is pornography in schools, sex change drugs, even surgery without parental permission, agreement or even notification. Matter of fact some states have laws that parental objection to sex changing their own chilren as child abuse and declare parents lose all parental rights and responsibilities. Seems today’s educators are more concerned with imposing the Hollywood agenda not reading and writing and the basic curriculum subject matter. Biden and Hakeem even derided book banning as proof of maga republicans threat to democracy but prohibiting pornography is not book banning. See, they are such liars. It’s common decency. The “how to” graphic sex teaching does not belong in the classroom or public or private education. I also fully support public schools but do not approve of the nuclear family and religion ridicule and condemnation by all the loonies running today’s classrooms. Even that big shot union lady what’s her name preaches that their mission is to protect children from their parents and even claim ownership in molding students for their New World tripe as their duty to society. Parents who want an environment of common decency in schools are not ignorant rubes.

    1. Ban porn yes but to kill a mockingbird is not porn neither is doctor sues…..my state is trying to dash a bill through that would give public funds to private schools….that is do-do…..What has Hakeem done to you that you detest him so much…..I seldom heart his name in the discourse but I see the Right is targeting him….why? chuq

      1. He spews lies that every problem and every miscalculation of Biden is the faualt of the white maga republican extremists. Crime is their fault, inflation is their fault, school crises are their fault, fentanyl deaths are their fault and they are blamed and railed against for every difficulty that exists just like Biden blames Trump and mega extremist republicans for all the failures he himself has caused. Biden sure did it in the S of U speech. Seems Hakeem’s job is deflection of responsibility and he certainly is no uniter of the people as he artfully demon- izes red state people and is a master at the “otherization” that permeates our country. Seems that is the nature of most party participants in government. He’s the hatchet man.

Public funds to private schools is a no-no ( agree) on the surface but in Florida efforts have been made to provide public funds to Catholic schools, other religious and private because they fill the gap over crowding creates and they also feed these kids and provide safe after school activities. Thousands are refugee children and non English speaking first generation with severe lack of speaking and writing skills and private schools can also assist in serviceing those issues. My Alma Mater, North Miami Sr. High is currently an 85 % Haitian majority. I’ll tell you a secret: Miami Dade County Schools used to be funded at only 80 % of calculated needs. That means principal and staff have to cut, cut, cut and are assessed as poor site managers and incompetent if they can’t pull it off. The system creates shortages that compound the shortges that already exist. Miami Dade County Schools is the 3rd or 4th largest school district in the country and its underfunded needs still create a budget that even at only partialy funded exceeds more than the GNP of many countries.

      2. All politicians spew lies…all of them it is how they get elected….schools would not be overcrowded if they spent more money on education and less time and energy worrying about bathrooms. chuq

  3. One thing we have been spared by our current right-wing government is falling standards in education. However, school infrastructure has suffered from lack of financing, and many schools are using temporary buildings on their premises as classrooms. There are also shortages of good experienced teachers in some areas,, because of low pay-rises driving them away into other careers.

    Best wishes, Pete,
