This may be my only post today for my best friend died yesterday and I need some time to process the loss.
You may think this is a dead topic…..but look around there is still plenty of life left in the old girl.
We all have heard it before that the US is heading for a new civil war thanx to the Orange Man from Florida….actually that is a bit of a bullsh*t piece of rhetoric.
In reality this ‘civil war’ has been brewing for many decades….it got a little closer with the rise of the Tea Party in 2010 and then the shots were fired with the rise of Trump and his minions of sickos.
And now it is here and here to stay for many years until the hatred for others is diminished….and when we start acting like the country we all know we deserve.
This civil war will be fought over political ideology.
There remains an argument that the United States is tragically headed for a second civil war – this one fought over political ideology.
It is seen literally as a war that could be fought between the left and right in this country. (This is manure! There is no Left in this country only in the minds of idiots. All there is is a Right and a moldy old Center.)
“American politics turned hyper toxic several years ago, and ever since commentators have raised the specter of a second civil war. No other historical parallel, it seems, captures so viscerally today’s national division into two hostile camps, each convinced the other poses a mortal threat to the republic,” the Council on Foreign Relations noted in a piece looking at how today is not like the 1850s – the years leading up to the Civil War.
It argued that we are not all that close to the same type of open conflict we witnessed 160 years ago. There are several factors at play that need to be considered.
…
America simply isn’t headed for Civil War because we’re 21st-century Americans. A few hotheads will continue to make trouble – and they should be punished accordingly if they go too far, as they did on January 6, 2021. But an actual American Civil War 2.0 won’t happen because we like our conveniences just too much, while the checks and balances are in place.
Instead, we are likely to remain in an uncivil war where we just do not like each other all that much.
A Second American Civil War?
I agree that there will be nothing like our first Civil War….but that does not mean that this one will not be bloody, not in the sense of gunshot wounds but rather in the sense of the loss of rights.
Will you be a spectator or will you be on the front lines to protect and preserve all Americans rights?
Will you sit idly by while group after group loses its way and its privileges?
Will you be a true American can stand-up for what is right and just?
Will you?
I Read, I Write, You Know
“lego ergo scribo”
I also think a full-on civil war is unlikely, but there could well be localised insurrections, and more incidents like Waco.
Best wishes, Pete.
I am afraid there might be problems…..but most of the fighting will be in the press and politics. chuq
My condolences on the loss of your friend. No matter how old we get, it never gets any easier to lose them.
Thanx Pete we were friends for about 35 years…..basically we were brothers….he will be sorely missed. chuq
I am very sorry for the loss of your friend. Best friends are hard to come by.
They surely are that…..30 years of friendship he will be missed chuq
After 2024 there will be no need to worry about a civil war … we will have a permanent authoritarian government in place –and that government will quickly quell all dissent —
Gilead just as Pete keeps saying chuq
amen
😎
You are way too pessimistic, John… not to mention having no faith in Americans.
I have seen what Americans can do … they elected a rabid authoritarian for four years and many of them are screaming for more …having no idea of what they are letting themselves in for …And he has his working shadow government in place and operating, pulling every string they can pull to defend him through all his current mess and make sure he gets intoi the oval again in 2024 where the following four years will be consumed mostly with vengeance and revenge and very little with the things that are important to the people… just like an Orban style situation — and it is not pessimism on my part, it is stating the obvious.
Well, to the reasons you give there, John, I fully agree. But i also think the Constitution needs far more than a year to be terminated by any one person or collective or political party. Nonetheless.. eternal vigilance is important. The next 18 months are going to be wild.
I believe the president has the power under the Federal Emergency Manage Act to become a virtual dictator in event of an event that threatens the safety and security of the nation…I could be wrong but I believe I once read that somewhere ..He could announce any fabricated scenario he wants to fabricate to convince the American People they are under dire threat …and could invoke that section of FEMA at will…I need to research this farther …
I am sincerely sorry to hear of the loss of your friend…
3 decades of close friendship….he will be missed chuq
Sorry for your loss. Good friends are getting scarce for me too.
Thanx he was the last true friend left to me. chuq
So sorry for what you re going through…as always, your posts are thought-provoking, sobering but not fatalistic…
Thanx John I am glad you like them…..chuq
Sorry about your best friend there, chuq. If this is a decades-long friendship then you’ve also lost a piece of your own shared past. The passage of time is indeed relentless.
As for the civil war stuff.. I spend a fair amount of blog time on conservative blogs trying to diffuse this civil war nonsense because of one simple fact…. once started, we will NEVER return to what once was in America. NEVER. These Right-Wing clowns who think their guns is going to save America have no concept. Out “first” Civil War changed America for sure, but we were largely a agriculture-based economy of only 30 million population lacking in the technology we today take for granted, and a military mindset locked into weapons of warfare and battlefield strategy not designed to kill an enemy unless it was in the line formation directly in front of you. Today the average assault rifle owned by the average American has the firepower.. and killing power.. of a platoon of 19th century troops.
Here’s the thing… once this killing of fellow Americans starts up there will be little or no formal organization (just pissed off people with guns who will want to kill justice system people to save Trump’s fat ass. No unified strategy, no vast armies standing against each other on some damn battlefield. Civilians will die like never before… largely collateral damage. But here is the important takeaway.. once the distribution system collapses (name your threat… interstate hijackings, drivers just giving up and going home to defend the family [think Katrina], rail system collapses, etc.) and there is no food getting to the local grocery stores…. it will be a free-for-all. Likely this effect will be regional at first. And all that is just “week one”.
There will be NO winners…. this will not be just a “weekend war”.. starting up on Friday and we are back to work by Monday’s lunch at MacDonald’s, having “fixed” government. No more Whoppers.. no more Big Macs… police and fire not even answering calls because they are left for home to tend to the survival of families. Half the military will have gone home. The other half who stays won’t know what to do. Starvation and street violence to survive will rule the day… and this will not just be down the line.. this will happen well into week two of this nonsense.
It’s pretty much like the lesson learned by the WOPR computer (War Games) when realizing the futility of trying to win at Tic-tac-toe… the only winning strategy is not to play the game. We have yet to pay the greater price for all this guns-R-us national mentality.
35 years of friendship…..bleak scenario…..people need to think about what can happen and then think about how to stop it chuq
I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend.
