Is The MSM Trustworthy?

Do you trust the corporate news?

My friend over at who got me thinking about a question he asked on his site.

Yep, the news most people consume is fed to people by corporations that own the news these days.

It appears that most Americans do not trust the news they are given in there evening news and corresponding web sites.

Polling released Wednesday by Gallup and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation reveals half of American adults “feel most national news organizations intend to mislead, misinform, or persuade the public,” which could impact the future of both the industry and U.S. democracy.

The report is the second in a series that began with a publication in October and builds on a body of research that Gallup and the Knight Foundation have conducted about Americans’ trust in the news media since 2017.

“This data offers further evidence that sustainable journalism begins and ends with trust,” said Knight Foundation president Alberto Ibargüen in a statement. “We believe a citizenry that trusts the news is more informed, more engaged, and better prepared to participate meaningfully in our democracy.”

Key findings from the latest survey include that 53% of about 5,600 Americans across political affiliations have an unfavorable view of the U.S. news media overall, compared with just 26% who hold a favorable view. In line with previous polling, younger adults have less favorable views.

The war in Ukraine is a great example and how the MSM handles its reporting.

It is a truism that the first casualty of war is the truth. But spinning and lying has real-world impacts in a war in which hundreds of thousands of real people are fighting and dying, while their homes, on both sides of the front lines, are reduced to rubble by hundreds of thousands of howitzer shells.

Yves Smith, the editor of Naked Capitalism, explored this insidious linkage between the information war and the real one in an article titled, “What if Russia won the Ukraine War, but the Western press didn’t notice?” He observed that Ukraine’s total dependence on the supply of weapons and money from its Western allies has given a life of its own to a triumphalist narrative that Ukraine is defeating Russia, and will keep scoring victories as long as the West keeps sending it more money and increasingly powerful and deadly weapons.

But the need to keep recreating the illusion that Ukraine is winning by hyping limited gains on the battlefield has forced Ukraine to keep sacrificing its forces in extremely bloody battles, like its counteroffensive around Kherson and the Russian sieges of Bakhmut and Soledar. Lt. Col. Alexander Vershinin, a retired US tank commander, wrote on Harvard’s Russia Matters website, “In some ways, Ukraine has no choice but to launch attacks no matter the human and material cost.”

How Spin and Lies Fuel a Bloody War of Attrition in Ukraine

This is just one example on the spin and lies that the media presents to us peasants….and believe me the corporations that own the news thinks of us as peasants.

It is said that the American people do not trust the MSM….yet they slurp up the lies and misinformation given to them on certain stories and situations.

For instance they believe every word of stories about Ukraine or immigrants or elections and no amount of logical contrary stories will get them to look past their set in stone spurious ideas.

Stop slurping up the crap that the MSM presents you on a silver platter….most of it is pure manure…..but few seem to care.

So to answer the original question….NO it is not trustworthy….no matter the event or story.

They treat the American news consumer like a mushroom….they keep us in the dark and feeds us manure.

  1. First of all, thank you for the link to my blog. I sincerely appreciate it. I have always said that corporate news is spun to benefit the corporate bottom line and that means that the news IS controlled. It is no longer impersonal and objective — has not been impersonal and objective for many years now — One of the greatest examples of how the corporation controls the news and one of the most obvious is the case of Fox News and the old guy from Australia who used to own it … forgot his name … All corporately-owned news is now kind of like Fox … it broadcasts what the owners want to be broadcast and in the way they want it to be spun —It is to their economic advantage .. and so that is what they do …If I owned a big news network that is what I would do, I would instruct all my talking heads to present the world in the same light that I view it because my objective would not be to report the news; my objective would be to grow the bottom line — and so the news would have to be made into some kind of entertaining horror movie … which is why we never hear anything good on most of the broadcast stations ….

Another reason for corporate control over the news is that by skewing the news, they can control the ultimate narrative governing the very daily existence of the population —Controlled news is a viable step toward a controlled population …simple mind control …simple way to subjugate an entire population to the whims and will of the money masters — and to the Industrial/Military Complex —

So where are we to go for news that we can trust? Nowhere is where! Even the alternative news resources such as the ones the radical right-wing crazies flock to are controlled — controlled by puppet masters whose only objective is mind control — and almost a third of the country has proven their objectives to be not only subjugation of the mass, but it has proven also to be egregiously effective in that it has succeeded in creating 77 million Trump zombies …

There are no longer any news resources that are trustworthy … none on either side of the political aisles … all are biased … all are purposely biased …all have another agenda besides reporting the news …news reporting is not a tool for those who want to control the American paradigm and they are doing a hell of a job at it too, Brownie (as President Bush might have said as he flew over the devastation of Katrina.)

    1. First you are very welcome glad to help where I can.

A little research can help….at least it does for me….we can thank Clinton who made it possible for corporations to own the news.

Agendas drive the news….not what is truth just what they want us to think is true. chuq

      1. So how do you propose to “Do a little research” when you know full well that everything written is biased just as much as everything that is broadcast?

      2. Look at both sides of a report….the corporate and the ‘independent’ sources…the truth is probably somewhere in the middle….it takes time and work….the two things that make up a good researcher. chuq

      3. “Independent” is only a shill description to throw attention off their biases .. there are no longer any “Independent” resources. All of them have something to sell.

  2. CORRECTION: I meant to say “news reporting is NOW a tool for those who want to control the American Paradigm — and I accidentally typed NOT instead.

  3. I gave up on newspapers 20+ years ago, due to bias from their corporate ownership. Now even the BBC is beginning to show blatant government bias over some issues, and that was the last hope of any fairness and truth.
    Best wishes, Pete.
