Can Lies Protect?

Surely we all know about the games Trump has played with the pandemic and the news of such…..

We know about the lie that it would be short lived or that it would be gone by Summer or that bleach would be a cure and that a vaccine would be ready by November……lie upon lie…..the crap just got deeper and deeper….

and now we have another side of the tale of woe…..Donald the Orange lied to protect us…..

President Trump admitted Wednesday that he may have misled the public about the threat COVID-19—but he said he had good reasons. His remarks followed the release of recordings from earlier this year in which he told Bob Woodward he had downplayed the virus threat. Asked Wednesday afternoon if he had misled the public, the president said, “Well, I think if you said in order to reduce panic, perhaps that’s so,” per the Washington Post. “The fact is, I’m a cheerleader for this country. I love our country and I don’t want people to be frightened. I don’t want to create panic.” In a Feb.7 phone call, Trump told Woodward that the coronavirus is “deadly stuff” that “goes through the air.” Publicly, he said the virus was no worse than the flu and predicted that it would soon disappear.

“We want to show confidence. We want to show strength. We want to show strength as a nation,” Trump said Wednesday, describing Woodward’s upcoming book Rage as “just another political hit job.” He said he was “very open” to the Washington Post associate editor, “but whether it was Woodward or anybody else, you cannot show a sense of panic or you’re going to have bigger than you ever had before.” Trump also defended his administration’s handling of the pandemic Wednesday and wondered why officials hadn’t received more praise for doing an “incredible job,” the Hill reports.

Let’s be honest…..there is no party immune from not caring about the people……

The Democrats, just like Trump, speak for a ruling class that has been totally indifferent to the loss of life caused by the pandemic, caring exclusively for the impact on the stock portfolios of the superrich.

Is it any coincidence, then, that Woodward’s employer, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who owns the Washington Post, has had his wealth nearly double over the past year, becoming the first human being with a net worth of over $200 billion?

The question for me is….could this all have been prevented?

  1. The big divide that we are seeing, that is threatening to overwhelm us, is the black hole between politics as usual and unusual politics…Ever so rarely a real reformer comes along and does great things, but all too often the reformer and his or her reforms are worse than the typical ineptitude and disinterest prevalent in government…Then you have a phenomenon of corruption embodied in a human being that takes power every hundred years or so and wreaks havoc. In the 30s and 40s there was a gang of them…Hitler. Stalin. Mussolini. Franco. Peron. Tojo.

  2. I think a good chunk of it could have been prevented if he hadn’t downplayed it. How many folks were ranting about what a hoax all this was and refusing to wear masks and distance because Dump wasn’t gonna wear one, or take other precautions? I mean, I get that the science was still working on figuring things out and there was some confusion at the first few months, but Dump didn’t need to add fuel to the fire. People still complain about masking and distancing, even months later. And why? Because the Dump-friendly media is still pushing the hoax message out there.

Dump could’ve gotten in front of it and AT LEAST said “we’re working on finding out more about this. I’ve got medical people trying to get ahead of this thing.”

Instead, he outright lied. He didn’t have to do that. He shouldn’t have done that. If he didn’t know–as many didn’t at the time, which would’ve put him in good company–then all he’d have to say was “we’re working on it and will let you know when we find out more.” That’s the responsible thing to do. But the man can’t ever be wrong and has to (pretend to) know everything. I know the hardest words to say in the English language seem to be “I don’t know” these days, but dang it, he seems to have an allergy to those words strung together or something.

  3. There’s a difference between projecting calm and outright lying. I’m an idiot. I thought that Trump was in denial about the seriousness of the virus, which was bad enough. But now to hear him on that audiotape with Woodward…🤯🤬 And Republicans are STILL defending him! And I’m not even going to start on Fox “News.” I really wonder how many people would still be with us if he had told the truth and armed us with the knowledge needed to defend ourselves.

      1. Kim he usually gets mad about the lack of followers and disappears for awhile then returns….sometimes he goes to Blogspot…..I will give him a few more days then I will start to be concerned. chuq

      2. I have no idea….I have tried to explain the workings but he seems to think there is a magic button or magic something that will make it an instant success. chuq
