Closing Thought–22Aug17

Good CEO, Good President!

For decades the GOP has been pushing candidates that have been successful businessmen/women…there premise is that if one can run a business with all its intricacies then they should be a success as a president….I have NEVER thought that was an accurate statement….but low info voters buy into the BS every time.

The election of 2016 has pretty much put that BS line to bed…..

If you were wondering exactly how Anthony “The Mooch” Scaramucci was able to weasel his way into the White House, you have to recall that he wasn’t only a Donald Trump sycophant; he was also touted as a businessman who could “fix” problems career politicians couldn’t.

Every day Trump proves just how inept he is at governing….he likes to think that he is a successful CEO and that government can be run like his businesses in NYC…..without some governmental experience then the job becomes overwhelming…..yews there have been successful business men that have made it as far as president….but each one has had some rudimentary experience in running a government.

Naivete…..amateurs cannot successfully run a government as complex as that of the United States.

Time to back off and start considering the direction for tomorrow’s posts….see you guys tomorrow with more stuff…….chuq

Throw Momma In Jail

I am always fascinated by crime and punishment…just how unbalanced it has become….and getting worse….

I thank all that visit GSFP but for those that have not yet found my other site…I reblog for their convenience…..chuq

Since the erection of Trump and his AG the use of jail time is going to be the answer to everything negative in out society.

It appears that the answer to all our crime problems is more jail time and longer sentences.

You could go to prison for life for selling drugs…depends on your race the amount of jail time…..of course you could get a hardy sentence if you rob someone using a weapon of sorts….but of all the dumbest jail terms is the one for sexting.

Sexting?  Yep, that inappropriate form of communication of sending sexual explicit photos and such through the text on your phone……teens seem to be the big users of this art form…..

The United States House of Representatives has passed a bill to criminalize “sexting” among teenagers. But that’s not all. This ominous bill also punishes their parents by making them face a 15-year mandatory…

A New Day For Afghanistan

I waited all day for the president to come before the country and explain his “New deal” for Afghanistan.

So far I have not been impressed with any of our last couple of president’s plan for dealing with American’s longest war.  So far it looks like the only plan we have is “not losing” in Afghanistan…..

America’s adventures in Afghanistan – dating back to the 1980s – have led to one disaster after another with President Trump and other politicians afraid to finally admit failure.

“Let’s get out of Afghanistan. Our troops are being killed by the Afghanis we train and we waste billions there. Nonsense!” – Donald Trump, January 11, 2013

Taking a break from his defense of the “very fine people” who marched with Nazis in Charlottesville, President Trump will reportedly meet with his national security team today (Friday, August 18) at Camp David to discuss a far deadlier but ironically less controversial issue: the war in Afghanistan.

But all the speculation is for naught…..the Prez has outlined his
new plan” for Afghanistan….

President Trump made a rare formal address to the nation Monday night to reaffirm the US commitment in Afghanistan, but he declined to talk about troop numbers or deadlines. Those factors will be based on “conditions on the ground, not arbitrary timetables,” he said, adding that he doesn’t think it makes sense to tip off the enemy to specific plans. The US currently has about 8,400 non-combat troops in the country, and the president had been expected to green-light another 4,000 or so for the 16-year-old war. “I’m a problem-solver,” said Trump after outlining the situation he inherited in Afghanistan and Southeast Asia and faulting the decisions of his predecessors. But “in the end, we will win.”

Trump, speaking at Fort Myer military base in Arlington, Va., acknowledged that his “original instinct was to pull out, and historically I like following my instincts,” reports the New York Times. But he said he changed his mind after a long review and advice from his military advisers. He said the US cannot repeat what he views as the mistake of its “hasty” exit from Iraq in 2011, which he said allowed ISIS to gain a foothold, per USA Today. Trump also called out Pakistan and said the US will “no longer be silent” as that nation provides “safe haven” for terrorists. And he also warned that the Afghan government would be held accountable as a partner. “We are not nation-building again,” he said. “We are killing terrorists.”

There you have it….the US New Plan for Afghanistan…..

Same as it has always been.  And you thought we would get something different….foolish Americans!

Watch The Caucuses

I am always looking for that region that could push the world to another all out war….like the events in 1914…..a few years ago I wrote a post where I thought the next big “problem” would appear…..

I chose the region between the two seas…Caspian and Black…..

Now that I have patted myself on the back……

I read a lot of Middle East newspapers and opinions…..and recently in an Iranian source I read about a prediction that they are making about the future….

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani cautioned that extremist elements could expand their presence in the Caucasus and Central Asia after being flushed out of Iraq and Syria, calling for concerted action to stem terrorism in the region.

“After suffering a complete defeat in Iraq and Syria, terrorists are likely to try to permeate across the region. Thus, all of us should be wary of such a threat (in the region), as in the Caucasus and Central Asia,” President Rouhani said in a meeting with his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan in Tehran on Sunday.

Needless to say that I agree with their prediction…..the region is becoming a hotbed of conflict and bad feelings.

Even the hyper-conserv think tank Heritage agrees with the findings…..

Many disassociated sources see a problem brewing….maybe more attention should be paid on these events and we could avoid another war that the world does not need.

National Security Is In The Hands Of Idiots

To “Make America Great Again” requires stable leadership on national security… far we have nothing even resembling stability on the NSC.

There are two factions within the Oval Office…..the stability faction and the wannabes….chief among the waanabes is Bannon while he does not have a security clearance any more he does have something better….the ear of Trump.

All fingers are pointing to Bannon when the subject of White House dysfunction is mentioned….

New White House chief of staff John Kelly certainly has his fair share of challenges ahead of him—and one of them might be mitigating a coordinated alt-right attack against President Trump’s national security adviser. The Wall Street Journal editorial board weighs in on what appears to be a faceoff between HR McMaster, a well-regarded Army general who took over for Michael Flynn, and Trump aide Steve Bannon, whose policy preferences are in stark contrast to McMaster’s. The national security adviser wants a more fleshed-out strategy in Afghanistan (including with more troops), is wary of any overtures from Russian President Vladimir Putin, and advises caution on haphazardly turning away from the Iran nuclear deal.

All of which has apparently incited the ire of Bannon’s allies outside of the White House, including those in the ultra-conservative media such as Breitbart, which Bannon used to oversee. The Journal acknowledges that Trump has publicly stood by McMaster, but adds that McMaster maybe isn’t the one the president should be turning a critical eye toward. Bannon “has been a White House survivor, but his warring habits have also been responsible for much of the White House dysfunction,” the editors write. They note that Trump may fear the repercussions of getting rid of Bannon, “but if his minions continue to vilify [Bannon’s] colleagues inside the White House, how can anyone tell the difference?” Editorial appears here.

The question now is can the generals…McMasters, Kelly and  Mattis save us from a nat sec meltdown?

There was a palpable sigh of relief when General John Kelly was selected as White House chief of staff and when National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster finally began purging the nationalist Pepe-fanboy Bannonites from the NSC. Combined with the presence of SECDEF Jim Mattis, Nikki Haley’s star turn at the UN, and a more assertive Rex Tillerson, there was almost a sense that the Axis of Adults would help mitigate the crazy.  When news broke that North Korea was close to mounting a miniaturized warhead on an ICBM capable of reaching U.S. territory, there was a hope that the experienced military team around Trump would turn this crisis into a foreign policy win.

Then came “fire and fury.”

Source: Kelly, Mattis, McMaster: Please Save Us from President Strangelove

Never thought I would put my confidence in generals over career diplomats.

Then there is a “deputy assistant secretary” and most of us foreign policy geeks still cannot figure on what this person does beyond an offensive mouth.  But the Rolling Stone tried…..

The Breitbart News headline, back in November 2014, rang like a five-alarm fire bell: MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD OVERRUNS NATIONAL CATHEDRAL IN DC. Its author, Breitbart’s national-security editor, was Dr. Sebastian L. v. Gorka, who currently occupies a top White House post as “deputy assistant” to President Donald Trump. And like just about anything Gorka has said or written, the Breitbart headline was wrong in every way. It wasn’t the Muslim Brotherhood at all, and no one overran anything. Despite his characteristic hyperventilation, the event in question was a dignified, interfaith prayer service organized jointly by the leaders of Washington National Cathedral and five mainstream Muslim organizations seeking to unite “voices of moderation.”

Like I said…in the hands of idiots.
