Nothing Better Than An Education!

Happy Easter…if you celebrate that sort of thing……

First some breaking news….I appears that the much anticipated North Korean missile test this weekend was a …….Failure……yes I said….FAILURE.

Another beautiful Spring Sunday….garden is going nicely, blueberries are about ready to harvest and my granddaughter is playing her flute for me……not a better day to be found.

My regulars know that I am a huge supporter of education…this country can go no further than it has without an educated populace.

I recently posted on something I read about education in Rhode Island……(in case you missed my post)…..

Well I read another educational piece about the state of New York… seems that they are trying to make a 4 year college education free for poor and middle class students……

New York will be the only state in the country to offer universal public college tuition coverage for working- and middle-class residents after the program was included in the budget package approved Sunday night.

The state’s Excelsior Scholarship program will be rolled out in tiers over the next three years, starting with full coverage of four-year college tuition this fall for students whose families make less than $100,000.

A damn capital idea….this should be policy in ALL 50 states…..

That is my post for the day (you only get one on the weekends)…..I will enjoy family and the beautiful weather…..not long until the 100 degree days return…..enjoy the weather while you can……

Thanx for all your visits in the past week and I look forward to the coming week….so much stuff and so little time……

I will be back in the morrow with more stuff and more thoughts…..peace out….my friends….chuq

  1. The NK missile exploded on launch, apparently. Makes me wonder how much of that frequently displayed ordnance is actually operational.
Chilly and going to rain here. Chance of snow in Scotland…Enjoy the weather, and your family time.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. There would be no Silicon Valley if California had charged the tuition it has charged since the 1970’s. During the 1940s, 50s and 60s, you could get a doctorate and have only paid about $50 a year for registration – no tuition – and pay for your books and materials. If New York manages to do this for 20 years, it will be the center of the innovation universe.

  3. While I feel I should applaud New York’s action, as well as Rhode Island’s, I’m afraid I can only put them in the category of “far too little, far too late”…. To go further would be to rant, & I’m still trying to limit that urge, as best I can, due to its unproductive nature…. if anyone were to listen, perhaps it would help. Since not even college graduates these days know how to listen to anything that doesn’t fit into their mental box, I’m letting that urge go to seed, or hell, or wherever it wishes to go….

One of yesterday’s pearls is apropos for this, to wit:

“Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught.” ~~ Oscar Wilde

This one, from a recent Pearl, fits pretty well, too….

“Humans hardly ever learn from the experience of others. They learn – when they do, which isn’t often – on their own, the hard way.” ~~ Robert Heinlein, Time Enough for Love

Maybe, if this country could alter human nature, enough to keep us from denying that nature, we might have had more of a chance to succeed in the ‘great experiment’….

    gigoid, the dubious

    1. This country needs to start somewhere….we have too long ignored education….I weep for my granddaughter when I crap out…..I am her teacher of things forgotten….hopefully she will keep up with her education……chuq
