Afghanistan: Shift to a ‘Conditions–Based’ Strategy or Lose the ‘Forgotten War”

For 15 years the Us has been involved in a war in Afghanistan…..there has been much written about this conflict and much speculation has come about on how to handle the war and how to extract the US from it without a relapse from the 1990’s.

Baqck in those days once the USSR pulled out the US lost all interest in the country and this allowed the rise of the Taleban and AQ……which allowed the world to go to war yet again.

The problem here is that there seems to be NO way out for the US.  Only a proper strategy will allow us to claim success or we will lose the war and yet again allow the Taleban to be on the rise…..

  1. Islamic State (isis) is fighting the Taliban…(they both have different religious leaders.)
let’s hope they kill each other off!
Best to let them get on with it…
Intervention will only make it worse…..

      1. Good Morning To You!

This will be my only visit and comment today, so, I’ll address one point above, and then make a few comments which are generically true, and should cover anything I might otherwise have said….

re: the above comments: Gore Vidal was spot on. So was Lady P’s brother.

First, if you want to know who is responsible for this mess, follow the money.

Nothing will change until humans decide to grow the fuck up.

They’re not going to grow up.

    We’re all fucked.

    Let’s have a beer….

    That should cover it all.

    See ya.tomorrow, most likely….

    gigoid, the dubious

    1. Yep and we seldom know how to control them….as Americans think…if we throw money at them they will play nice….and that has been wrong for decades….but we will not abandon ignorant decisions….it is what we do best….chuq

      1. Iraq we will never re4cover from….Syria has a chance of being a better way but that depends on too many factors……Libya will be our next entanglement….there is already saber rattling.

  4. This is one of the inherent problems with the US Empire today. Like Bill Maher says, “We’re like the unemployed, drunk, uncle who comes for a visit and just never leaves.”

WW2 ended some 70 years ago, but America still spends billions on German military bases to protect Germany from Nazi resurgence er Soviet invasion ..er….ISIS poisoning their schnitzel??? The Korean War ended some 60 years ago, but American troops are still there.

America will likely be fighting the Afghanistan War until it collapses…America that is. (See: Soviet Union) It doesn’t matter how much it costs. If anything, the more it costs, the “better” because it means more profit for the MISC. It doesn’t matter how much destruction is caused by the American presence and/or the response to it. Why? Because Muslim lives don’t matter. The US Empire could kill half the Afghan population and America probably wouldn’t even notice, let alone care. Shit, half the people who’d care would actually consider it a good thing!

Hardly anybody even remembers why America invaded in the first place. Nobody remembers what the point of staying was, or the conditions for exit. But everybody knows that America “can’t leave”…even though nobody can give a good reason why.

So, here’s yet another whole in the Good Ship America that has ZERO chance of producing a (lasting) positive result. Yet it will keep slowly bankrupting the country until it finally can’t pretend it’s not sinking. At least the Soviets had the good sense to get the fuck out, but by then it was too late. So, if America ever actually starts leaving, start your Doomsday Prepping immediately…if not right now.

    History: Rinse. Lather. Repeat.

    1. We cannot win in Afghanistan or Iraq or Syria…we are trying to fight them with the ideas of Patton, et al….will not do it the 21st century.

      1. nope! But the powers that be want you to believe they are….indoctrination works every time…
