I have been saying for a long time that the American voter use to pick its politicians but thanx to gerymandering it is that politicians get to pick their voters……
This one situation is killing the American democratic experiment that we have fought for for over 200 years…..and it is getting worse and more out of hand…..

Multimember-districts are a good way indeed to remove the dangers of gerrymandering. In fact it’s used around the world.
Agreed….but like I said…..no longer is it voters choose their politicians but rather politicians choosing their voters…..

A few months ago, I read an article about using software to allocate districts. If it is done properly (open sourced to prevent code to bias the result), that could be helpful in eliminating gerrymandering.
I also read an article along those lines…..I like it…..but do not trust the people that will install it……
That is the reason to require it to be open sourced. If someone takes the code and runs it against the same data, the results should be the same. If they are not the same, it means that either the data or the code was different which could mean that someone had tampered with it.
I like it…..and it makes great sense…..so it will probably not be employed…..
Of course not, the software developer would invoke something like copyright or trade secrets to nix any attempt to require it to be open source (see the attempt of people trying to get a copy of the code for breath analysers in drunk driving cases).
