Do white people really know how to have more than one black friend? | Rebecca Carroll | Comment is free | theguardian.com

Thanx to the tragic death of Michael brown the country is having that awkward race conversation.  Don’t get me wrong I believe we have needed an honest conversation on race for decades and so far all we have done is talk and the crap still carries on and on……

News media has 3 white guys debating race….kinda like 3 men debating birth control…….we Americans truly want to have this conversation but none of us know how to have it……where to start……

I read a piece in the UK’s Guardian and thought it asked some interesting questions…I think we all need to read it…….and please let me know what you think……

  1. I can tell you that I am often that “one Black friend” I love people…white, black, yellow. I love people. But it is absolutely exhausting having to play ambassador for an entire group of people. Sometimes I want to scream, “we aren’t all the same!!! Asking my opinion doesn’t give you a window in to what ALL Black people think.” It is at times infuriating being the “only” Black friend. Having to swallow my rage at rudeness and ignorance in the interest of “friendship” is not even a little fair. Investing emotionally in people only to discover their hurtful thoughts about my community years in to the friendship is heartbreaking.

It’s too much pressure for ONE person. How about we all just get to know each other? How about we share the load? How about we step out of our little itty bitty circles and actually work towards making this world a place we are proud of?

I know. I know. Wishful thinking.

Great post. I really enjoyed the link.

    1. Thanx glad you liked it…I have been saying that any conversation we here in the US is nothing more than pointing out problems….we are incapable of having an honest debate……people are nort color blind so until they figure that out the conversation will be worthless.

I appreciate the post…hope to see you often….chuq
