War Crimes Approacheth

Okay the war on Gaza is taking a much needed break…..all sides can now go to their corners and re-arm…..thanx to social media broadcasting the war minute by minute there is now a loud call for Israel to face charges of war crimes…..that will be a large call and the wheels of accusations have been set into motion and Israel will ask and receive all the support that it needs from its puppet,  the US…….

Fearful of the growing international demand that Israeli officers be tried for war crimes committed during this last offensive against the Gaza Strip, the military has ordered a comprehensive internal probe of the army’s actions during Operation Protective Edge.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has also appealed to American legislators to help Israel stave off future accusations against military and political leaders of war crimes committed during the last israeli offensive against Gaza..

Netanyahu “wants the US to use all the tools that we have at our disposal to, number one, make sure the world knows that war crimes were not committed by Israel, they were committed by Hamas. And that Israel should not be held to a double standard,” he added.

Israel has NO problem using the US for all it is worth…..but will not cooperate with the US on much…….so here is Israel’s chance to do the right thing……the right thing?  We all know that Israel will play the victim card as it always does and will not have to answer for the destruction and death it brought to Gaza.

What will the world do?  Will they make a country that deals in death and destruction pay for their actions or will they roll over and play the blind man in the alley?

My bet is on the blind thing……how about you?

But then there is a ray of hope……..

If the Palestinians were to sign the ICC’s founding treaty, the Rome Statute, the court would have jurisdiction over crimes committed in the Palestinian territories.

With Palestinian authorization, an ICC investigation could then examine events as far back as July 1, 2002, when the court opened with a mandate to try individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.

“If Palestine applies it will be admitted to the ICC,” John Dugard, international law professor and a former U.N. Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian territories, told Reuters.

“The U.N. has spoken and it has recognized the state of Palestine and it is now for the ICC to admit Palestine. I cannot see how that can be resisted.”

Dugard said the Palestinians could then ask prosecutors to investigate alleged crimes in July and August in Gaza, but also the legality of Israeli West Bank settlements.

“The settlements are an ongoing crime and it is quite clear that the settlements constitute a war crime under the Rome Statute and that is what Israel is desperately worried about,” Dugan said

If this were to happen we will see just how much the “rule of law” really means to the US……will they ignore a ruling they do not agree with or will they do the right thing?  Then we will see which is more important the law or the cash from Israel….my money is on the cash.

  1. “Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has also appealed to American legislators to help Israel stave off future accusations against military and political leaders of war crimes committed during the last israeli offensive against Gaza..”

Isn’t this meaningless as the US isn’t a signatory to the ICC?

    1. Pretty much….but they have to try……Obama will pressure those that are signers to let Israel slide on the crimes thing…..I’m sure there will be some sort of backdoor blackmail going on….

  2. Bringing this before a tribunal and publicly laying out the charges will be as far is this is likely to go but at least it is a step in the right direction
