They are at it again! The liberal use of the “S” word……I have tried to keep people from making a horrible mistake…..Obamacare IS NOT…I repeat IS NOT socilaism….and anyone that paints it as such is painting a lie! chuq
Day: August 12, 2013
Gonna Be A Long August
We will have have long August….the Congress and its minions will be on a 5 week break…….they will be back home to stir up the base or they will be on a “fact finding” mission with family in tow paid for by us mere mortals…..but all the bravado spouted about shuttling the government down is gonna bite them, the Repubs, in the butt…..
The GOP has gonna have its problems with the extremes versus the adults (there are not many of these)…….
If the first few town halls of the August Congressional recess are any indication, Republicans are “[struggling] to contain the monster they created.”
The monster in question is the unhinged, fact-free Tea Party juggernaut and its irrational and unceasing opposition to Obamacare. The GOP civil war over defunding Obamacare is breaking out into the open at town hall meetings across the country.
ThinkProgress’ Aviva Shen has the details:
After 40 failed votes to repeal Obamacare, several Republicans are threatening anew to block government funding unless the health reform law gets defunded. This threat is nothing new; Republicans have repeatedly demanded that every appropriations bill include a provision to repeal Obamacare since the law was passed. Tea Party lawmakers in 2011 emphasized how dire the situation was, calling for a “blood oath” to “choke Obamacare.”
Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL)
When confronted by one angry constituent, Schock dismissed his pro-shutdown colleagues for “beating their chests” on cable news without thinking about the real-life consequences. “How many weeks would you go without paying Social Security, and how many weeks would you go without paying the troops?” he asked. “And having a young lady walk into my office, whose husband is over in Afghanistan, who can’t pay her mortgage because I’m shutting the government down because I don’t like the health care law? […] I’m just suggesting that when you get into a fight, politically, you gotta make sure you’re willing to kill the hostage you got. And I am not convinced yet that that’s a hostage we should take headed into this fight.” Watch it HERE.Rep. Robert Pittenger (R-NC)
Pittenger flatly answered “no” when a constituent asked him if he would join the effort to defund Obamacare. Pittenger argued that the vote would be pointless because the Democrat-controlled Senate would never pass the bill. His constituents yelled back that they wanted to “make a stand to get conservatives back on board.” He later released a statement explaining that he would take “responsible steps to defund or replace Obamacare.” Watch it HERE.Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE)
At a town hall on Monday, Fortenberry warned of “very significant consequences” should Republicans go forward with their plan, and said “There has to be a better way.” In response, one audience member declared, “We elected Republicans to fight for more conservative policies.”Many other prominent Republicans have refused to support the shutdown plan. On Sunday, former vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) said “there are more effective ways” to get rid of Obamacare. Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) scoffed, “It’s the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard,” while Sen. Tom Cole (R-OK) called it “a temper tantrum.” Republican governors have also warned that their state economies would suffer enormously if the party takes the government hostage.
BOTTOM LINE: As a new poll out today underscores, the GOP’s obsession with repealing — or even trying to shut down the government in order to defund — Obamacare is a political loser. This isn’t 2010 and the GOP’s repeated efforts to deny the security of quality, affordable health care to millions of Americans are dragging the party down.
My personal opinion is that the extremes will hold the rest of the party up and push to get their way….it will further damage Boehner………and chaos will return to Congress and there will be NO actions that fix any real life problems…….look for the mouth of Cruz or Paul or Lee………the shame is that the crazies out number the adults……and that is a formula for chaos……
It’s gonna be a long August and unproductive Fall……
Ever Ask Yourself “WHY”?
I have been playing this politics game for 40 years or so…..one of my happiest days besides the PhD was when there was a 24 hour news channel…..think about it…24 hours! If you do not remember those days then there is NO way I can explain it other than it was a godsend for people like me that had to know everything at all times……..
One of my favorite programs on the new news channel, CNN, was Crossfire….that was when 2 conservs and 2 libs debated the issue of the day for 60 minutes……I recall one of the conservs was Buchanan until he ran for prez and had to step down,,,,,,and I be damn if I can recall any other others on the show….the show was in prime time and a great source of aggravation for me….you see there was a conserv point of view but the so called Left point was not….at best it was centrists and boring…..I spend many stamps writing to CNN to change the format and hire some truly Leftists….to no avail…
Okay, A side trip……I am not real found of many conservs but I do like SE Cupp…..being a red head fe4male helps a lot….but besides that she seems to possess an intellect beyond the normal stupid of the Right…
About now you are asking…what does a cute red head conserv have to do with this post……good question!
“Crossfire’s” possible return in April. The program aired from 1982-2005, and became one of CNN’s most prominent shows, airing more than once a day and on the weekend. Pat Buchanan and Tom Braden were the original hosts of the program. At the time of its cancellation, Tucker Carlson and Paul Begala, who is still with CNN, hosted the show.
I seems that CNN with its sagging ratings is resurrecting Crossfire for one more spin around the political yard…….this time around the libs will be Van Johnson and Stephanie Cutter…..and the conservs will be SE Cupp and Newt…..

I hate to see Cupp leave MSNBC’s The Cycle weekdays for Crossfire…..money must be good and she probably got a good contract……..
The problem as I see it…….sagging ratings prompted this…..but they will no longer be a unique programming…..for you see just about every reputable media outlet has a similar show….I said reputable….and that leaves out FOX….I do not see this as a boon for CNN…sorry to say that this will more than likely be a bomb kinda like the Erin Burnett Show which did little to boost ratings for the sliding network……
A bit redundant……..Sorry MS Cupp….you deserve better.
