I’m watching the “West Wing” series on Netflix and I chuckle every time I see the broken snake “Don’t Tread On Me” poster on Sam Seaborn’s office wall. To think that such a liberal view of the American presidency included what later became a symbol for the far right is indeed ironic
I guess I must break down and get the series…I have never watched it……
Oh man! You’ve gotta watch it it. It’s really inspiring. Reflecting in some ways the government you would really like to see while also showing the way it is with the political wrangling that goes on at every turn.
Its smart and well scripted. You’ll be hooked with the first episode, the pilot, as President Bartlett (Martin Sheen) confronts the religious right.
I believe that MSNBC’s Laurence O’Donnell was a writer or something for the show……
I believe O’Donnell wrote one segment, produced several others and actually starred in one in a flashback scene where he played young Jed Bartlett’s overbearing strict father.
I will give the series a try, as soon as I get through the research I am doing…..thanx for heads up.
What also makes it realistic is staffers from previous administrations serve as consultants for the TV program, like Clinton’s former press secretary, Dee Dee Myers
