A Step Closer

I know my regular readers get a chuckle out of my seemingly paranoid aversion to technology….and that they be thinking that I have given up on my warnings and learn to love the techno advances that we are experiencing…….HA!

Did you guys see the movie where the police force we arresting people before they committed the crime?  If not…RENT IT!

I have posted in the past about the possibility that science would come up with a way to read a persons mind………and the UK’s Telegraph published this…….

A device which reads the thoughts of brain-damaged patients could become a reality, scientists claimed, after proving they could tell what someone was hearing just by decoding their brain waves.

Researchers demonstrated that the brain breaks down words into complex patterns of electrical activity, which can be decoded and translated back into an approximate version of the original sound.

Because the brain is believed to process thought in a similar way to sound, scientists hope the breakthrough could lead to an implant which can interpret imagined speech in patients who cannot talk.

I realize that this could be used in so many ways that would be beneficial……but also I am old enough to know just how we humans can abuse technology…..and some of it is not for the good…….
This just brings us a bit closer to “1984” or the stories of Phillip K. Dick…..
Who will decide who gets help?  Will there be a waiting list?  Or will it go to the highest bidder?

  1. One of the worrying things I fear is if we stop controlling these decisions ourselves (for better or for worse, highest bidder, etc…) but hand it over to computers directly to make these decisions (one step closer to “I robot”)

    1. Hi Jenny and welcome to the neighborhood….like I say in my many posts on the techno thing…..I am old enough to know just how far man will go to abuse technology and how far he will go to dominate his fellow man…..thanx for stopping in and I hope to see you often…..

  2. That movie you refer to is called The Minority Report; a Tom Cruise flick. Definitely creepy, and fortunately totally unable to withstand the scrutiny of the Constitution should the technology ever become available. (It won’t come available, because it’s more supernatural than technological, but ya never know.)

I swear when I build my robot I’m going to mail it to you. LOL.

  3. Terrance….that was the movie abd I believe that was a Phillip K. Dick short story……just wait I found more to be paranoid about…..coming to a blog near you….LOL
