2010–It Has Been A Good Year!

The week between Xmas and New Years is notoriously slow…..slow for news…slow for political junkies like myself……and this new year has been NO different…..NO news and only rattlings from the political lunatics……so I take this time to reflect on the past year…..

First, I would like to thank all those who have participated in Info ink….loyal readers like Quin of Quintessential Havoc….Chris of Why We Worry……and all those who chose to visit my site……please be kind and visit those friends of Info ink….go to my blogroll and it will get you to their sites and their thoughts……

As this year comes to an end I would like to think back and reflect on the happenings that made it a memorable year……my spam went from 17,000 to over 44,000 in less than a month…not something that is exceptionally good but it shows that I have arrived…LOL

1– Info Ink went over 6100 comments

2–Picked up new readers to make it a good year for hits

3–A lot of good and interesting stories to keep us on our toes, Tea Party, elections, of course, one Sarah Palin, wars and diplomatic antics

4–I figured out Twitter …thanx to Quin of Quintessential Havoc…(blogroll will get you to his site….stop procrastinating and go there)

5–Great nominees for Person of the Year and Anal-Ocity…..

6–Our yearly predictions were good and accurate……about 60% accurate……not as good as Nostradamus, but no one needed a decoder ring to figure them out….

7–We went over the 4200 posts mark…..

Onward and upward…..time for another year to begin and time for Info Ink get back to work….with analysis, agitation and humor…..should be a good year for the games politicians play and a good year for posts…may we all have a great new year…..

If Ever Witchcraft Was Needed

It seems that someone has taken an interest in the campaign funds of Delware’s Christine O’Donnell……as reported in TPM………

Federal officials have reportedly opened a criminal probe into whether former Republican Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell broke the law by using campaign money to pay personal expenses, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

The feds are looking into whether O’Donnell’s spent $20,000 dollars in campaign money on personal expenses and rent, MSNBC reported. The probe stems from a complaint by the group Citizens For Responsibility And Ethics In Washington (CREW) which was filed back in September.

O’Donnell set a state record by raising more than $7.3 million for her campaign but has faced questions about her campaign finances. TPM reported that her last minute campaign hires included an anti-gay crusader and that she spent $200,000 on her “I’m Not A Witch” and Yale ads.But O’Donnell basically admitted that CREW’s main charge were true back in October, conceding she used campaign cash to pay rent on her Delaware town house because it doubled as campaign headquarters, which CREW charged amounted to using her primary campaign “as her personal ATM.” Commission rules “say candidates can’t use campaign money for their mortgage or rent ‘even if part of the residence is being used by the campaign’.”

Twitching one’s nose might be in order about now……blinking or nodding or snapping of fingers….something….to get ones self out of a predicament…….

There Must Be A Good Reason

Well, Xmas is over and the weather is the big story…..Congress has gone….the media is grasping at straws for news and then Mother Nature let loose….

The National Weather Service issued blizzard warnings from Maine to New Jersey with winter storm warnings in effect for nearly the entire East Coast.

It said the heaviest snowfall had occurred in eastern New Jersey, New York City and western Long Island. The forecast was for up to 25 inches of snow in parts of the region.

A blizzard warning, which is issued when snow is accompanied by sustained winds or gusts over 35 mph, was in effect early Monday from Delaware to the far northern tip of Maine. The storm was expected to bring its heaviest snowfall in the pre-dawn hours Monday, sometimes dumping 2 to 4 inches an hour. A total of 12 to 16 inches was expected across nearly all of Rhode Island, Connecticut and eastern Massachusetts, though forecasters said winds of 50 mph could create much deeper snow drifts.

Many are asking…”What Happened?”

Americans are such damn whiners…what happened? Was it climate change? What can explain this phenom? The cold, the wind, the snow, the treacherous driving, the ice, the…….

Here you go…..this amazing phenom is called WINTER…you boneheads!

Palin In 2012?

Let me begin with my opinion on her possible run for the presidency in 2012….personally, I think she will opt out and avoid in conflict with fellow GOPers……she is making way too much money being vague and flippant…..why open her life and principles open to the media for massive scrutiny?

With that said…..she still has a lot of support among the “base”…whatever the Hell that means……and she could be convinced that she has a chance in Hell of winning it all…..I think she is smarter than that….why?

Then I could be mistaken! She made a statement after the latest N. Korean conflict…..

“Obviously, we gotta stand with our North Korean allies,”

Glenn Beck, who is not the sharpest pencil in the box, had to correct her and point out that it was S. Korea that is our ally…….just when I think she is getting a handle on political stuff….she has to go and show that she is still clueless…..

The problem is for her, other than being self-absorbed and unaware, the same as for Huckabee….the electoral numbers are NOT there! Political Wire has a great summation…….

With Republican presidential prospects considering whether to enter the fray, The Fix notes that “one thing is clear: that Huckabee and Palin…would perform well without the other, but they might undercut each other if they are in the same race.”

“The base of support for Huckabee and Palin is readily apparent, and for both of them, it starts with born-again evangelicals. The two of them combine for 46 percent of that vote, compared to just 26 percent for Gingrich and Romney. Palin and Huckabee are also the top two vote-getters among women and people without college degrees… It’s hard to see Palin having a path to victory that doesn’t include Iowa or South Carolina, and both of those early states happened to be Huckabee’s strongest in 2008.”

We will see if she is the “maverick” that she pretends to be…….

But there is another idea…that is now that GOP leader Steele is up for re-election, some within the party, well Tea Party nation, have said that Palin would be ideal for the position…..but home girl may not be interested….

Phillips released the letter because Palin has “shown in the past no hesitation to take on the establishment.” The letter warns that if an “establishment” candidate wins the nomination against President Obama in 2012, it will mean “Obama and the socialists will have won.”We need someone who will put conservatives in control of the party apparatus, not RINOs,” he writes. Some on the right use the acronym RINO to refer to Republicans they disagree with as “Republicans in Name Only.”

The letter also attacks current RNC chairman Michael Steele for spending money with “the gusto of a liberal.” It urges that the Republican Party needs someone that can cut spending and be able to lead and energize the troops within the Republican Party.

“You have an unbelievable ability to light up a crowd and to raise money,” said Phillips. “Both of which the Republican Party needs.”

But soon after the letter was released, Palin announced she would not take them up on the offer. She released a statement saying she wasn’t best suited for the position.

“The primary role of the RNC chair seems to be that of fundraiser-in-chief,” said Palin according to Politico. “And there are others who would probably be much more comfortable asking people for money than I would be.”

She is NOT interested! Basically for two reasons…..one she would have to give up all her personal money making endeavors and two, it would take her out of the presidential contention, if that was ever her desire….this also does not help her aspirations…

“That’s the highest negative rating for anyone measured in this poll (and it’s two points lower than Nancy Pelosi’s negative rating from last month). And get this: The only major subgroups that Palin wins in a head-to-head match-up with Obama are Republicans, conservatives, and FOX viewers. That’s it, folks.”

She keeps her name in the media by saying that her announcement is still months away…that she needs to see who will be running and if she can make a difference…..well, she can make a difference…..she could assure a GOP loss in 2012….how is that?

Food Porn?

Today is Sunday, and as my readers will know, there are some days that I need a break from the lunacy of politics and the mental masturbation that comes with doing analysis……

What Carey Morewedge (I find it impossible to not say his full name) found was that people can bypass their desire and trigger habituation to food. But to do so, you can’t just imagine having it in front of you; that leads to sensitization. You have to really, concertedly imagine yourself in the process of eating it. A bunch of it.

In his experiments, subjects were shown photos of 30 M&M’s, one at a time, for three seconds each. Others were shown photos of 30 cubes of Kraft cheddar, one at a time, for five seconds. Afterward, the M&Mers still liked M&Ms, but ate fewer than they would normally. The cheesers still like cheese, but also ate relatively less.

Cheese choice aside, the psychologists concluded that the phenomenon was, in fact, habituation. The pictures didn’t actually turn people off of those foods, they just didn’t feel like eating much of them; their desire had been tempered. And, notably, the subjects didn’t feel “full,” nor were they less likely to pig out on foods they hadn’t been staring at, further suggesting that the phenomenon was related specifically to the stimulation of the particular food the subjects were picturing themselves eating.

There are about as many ways to curb ones appetite and to give one that body that makes men or women weak to see…..soon you will be writing down what you eat, the weight and then you will weigh your poop and see how far you are behind to keep that perfectly tuned bod….you will have an exercise coach, a nutritionist, a dietitian and mostly likely an on-call shrink…..and all it will cost you is your sanity and your love life…..

This may not be the best approach….I mean show real porn to a sex addict and they will knock you down getting out the door to find something or someone to scratch their itch……show a stoner massive drugs in use and you will most likely be harmed trying to keep them from a connection….this may have a similar and unwanted consequence……come on…look at a 5 Guys bacon cheese burger and then tell me you do not want one…….or for that matter a couple more…..if you really want to influence people, then show them vids or photos of some broad puking after she has eaten…I do not know anyone that would want to eat after that…..

A Christmas Message

Another year and another Christmas and we here at Info Ink have had a great year and wish to thank loyal readers like Quin, Chris, LOUDelf and Phil and all others….We appreciate all your comments and support….So we would like to wish all a very Merry Christmas….may all the joy of the season be yours….

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished!

We always hear about those silly fools we call “Good Samaritans”…people who help the helpless with no consideration of their own well being or the consequences……but there is always one that has bullsh*t written all over it…..and this is just one of those….

Two men who rescued a deer trapped in Patapsco River ice were each fined $90 by a state Natural Resources Police officer because they did not have life vests aboard the inflatable boat they used to reach the animal.

A 911 caller reported a deer stuck in the ice near Route 648 in Linthicum about 5 p.m. Thursday, Sgt. Brian Albert of the Maryland Natural Resources Police said.

Khalil Abusakran, 33, from Baltimore County, said he also was driving by and saw people throwing rocks and sticks at the deer.

Abusakran got a rubber boat from his van. “The deer was stuck and couldn’t get up off the ice,” he said.

Abusakran and Hart got in the boat and went out into the water, which they said was about 10 feet deep. Hart said they had to work to break the ice using oars and shovels. The two men were finally able to break open a wide enough section of ice for the deer to struggle free.

Abusakran said he thought it looked like the deer was pregnant.

Hart said the Natural Resources Police officer issued him and Abusakran $90 citations for not having personal flotation devices on board. State law requires that all boaters have a personal flotation device with them at all times on any navigable body of water, though they are not required to wear them unless they are younger than 16.

Now that is what I call “just rewards”…….

DADT–The Game

On December 18, 2010, the Senate voted to end debate on S.4023, the Senate’s bill identical to H.R.2965, via a cloture vote of 63-33. Prior to the vote, Sen. Lieberman gave the final argument in favor of repealing DADT and Sen. McCain argued against repeal. The final Senate vote was held later that same day, with the measure passing by a vote of 65-31. President Obama is expected to sign the repeal into law on December 22, 2010.

Finally, it has been signed and now all the hard work that has been done by so many will pay off…..the problem is that the Pentagon has to come up with a plan and in 60 days or more before it will be officially over…..DADT will remain in force until then….

I personally did not think that this would happen in this Congress….that gays would have to wait for a more liberal time……I was mistaken….with that said……

The game is afoot!

Just yesterday I had a comment on a fdriend’s blog, Why We Worry, (blogroll will get you to this good and informative site) that I expect the GOP to play games with the repeal…and I did not have to wait long, at all…….

Delegate Robert G. Marshall said the Constitution reserves states with the authority to do so and that he’ll introduce a bill in the state General Assembly next year that ensures the “the effect of the 1994 federal law banning active homosexuals from America’s military forces will apply to the Virginia National Guard.”

“With the repeal of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell,’ President Obama seeks to pay back his homosexual political supporters,” the Prince William County Republican said, echoing a sentiment shared by many of the repeal’s most ardent opponents. “This policy will weaken military recruitment and retention, and will increase pressure for a military draft.”

“The Constitution never would have been ratified if states were not [guaranteed] unqualified control of the militia, now called the National Guard,” he said.

I knew that it would not be as easy as the prez signing it into law…….I knew that games would be played and so they begin!
