Federalism–The Series—Part One–Intro

Inkwell Institute

Professor’s Classroom

Subject:  Politics/Government/Political Theory

In the past I was called a “Federal Agitator” the person that made this accusation a decade ago meant it in a derogatory way, but I kind of liked it so I have retained that title for my passing……sorry….that was a digression on my part….now on to the meat of the series….

I have been having some interesting exchanges with a reader of Info Ink, he is the blogger on “Systematic Change In Business And Government”  If interested go to blogroll and give it a look).  After my years of absence from the world of academia I felt that I needed a refresher course on Federalism so that I could debate with knowledge.

I started writing this piece to educate people on federalism and it turned into more than one post….I decided to break this up into several parts to explain the concept and put in my two cents worth on what I think of it all.

I am hoping that this series will induce others to debate whether federalism is good or bad….does it help or hurt…..people need to understand what federalism is and how it works…as it is today people use the term but know little about the term…it easy to talk about the intentions of the founders, but unfortunately federalism has moved a little beyond trying to save property rights…….originally the concept was a simple concept for a simple division of power….again …unfortunately the country has moved well beyond worrying about who is property and who is not.

Do you, my reader know what permissive federalism is?  How about “marble cake” federalism?  These are some of the points I will touch on to help people understand the concept that they so dearly love.

I will examine the different types of federalism and whether we should try to work within the bounds of the concept.  I also hope that opinions will be forthcoming, whether pro or con, all will be accepted, as long as they are civil and genuine.

This series will be continued every Monday until the final part…..please read and let me know what you think….

  1. At the moment, no, I don’t know what the different forms of federalism are, but I am well aware that it can be anything from the (originally at least) fairly loose federalism of the US through the slightly stronger federalism of Germany (which seems to work most of the time) to the utter dictatorship of the coming power hungry EU, which seeks to determine everything in people’s lives from when they copulate to what sort of fruit they eat and in fact subjugate us all completely – but then, if (as I believe) they’re looking towards world domination, they would, wouldn’t they?

I look forward to your series with considerable interest 😈

Incidentally, I was at first interested in “Systematic Change In Business And Government” but it appears that comments are sometimes turned off on posts for no apparent reason and/or that facility doesn’t work and I have to admit that my interest lapses if it’s not even possible to tell a writer you agree or disagree, or even that you think a post is “great”. To me, nothing will EVER change unless people can “debate” (preferably without the presence of guns) and that, I believe, is the true power of the internet.

    1. Thanx Quin and I will be posting the series on Mondays……the site you mention….well I emailed him and he said that he gets a lot of negative , even hateful and rude commenst so he deletes all after he reads…..I suggested that he delete the a/holes and keep the ones that are civil….do not know if he will listen…but I tried…

Have you heard of Daily Kos? I use to post there until they became a Obama cheerleader and I was not always that…so I was told I needed to post elsewhere….so basically I said fuck you and moved on…..but I agree…I look forward to a good debate and exchange of thoughts….that is why I value readers like you and Terrfant….we may not agree but we can talk about it without reverting to the BS…..

      1. Exactly! Even when you are talking about people with views much more different than yours and mine, there’s always the possibility of a concensus. Without debate, you just have a lot of disjointed (mostly BS) opinions and nothing else.

I just don’t understand people who don’t want anything but constant agreement. That’s nice if it’s genuine, but reality dictates that won’t happen all the time by any means.

  2. I certainly will be watching for the future posts. It would be interesting to see how the word has changed meaning like so much of politics.
