We just marked the 5 yr anniversary of th Iraq War. Nearly 4000 dead, many thousands wounded, and half a trillion dollars later. What have we learned?
We learned the the government lied. we learned that they had no idea what to expect in the days after the fall of Baghdad. But wait! That is not necessarily true.
Ever hear of Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski? He was the senior foreign policy adviser to Carter. And quote possibly the smartest man in the US. Why do I say this? Simple, on the day the Iraq war began he gave an interview and told everyone that it was a mistake and would be a disaster. When asked why he felt this on March 19, 2003, he said: there was no substantial evidence of WMD, he also said that this war would bog US forces down in Iraq for many years, and that the US would lose a lot of international credibility and that it would make the US more susceptible to retaliation.
The problem no one was listening, especially Congress who ran blind folded into the war. Now he has been proven to be correct in his predictions. Maybe it is time to take this smart man seriously and ask him the best way for the US to extract itself from Iraq. Whatever plan he suggest has got to be better than the one we have now.
