Less than a year after a pro-Trump mob stormed the US Capitol, nearly half of Republican voters (47%) say that “a time will come when patriotic Americans have to take the law into their own hands,” per a new nationwide survey by George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs.

Only about 29% of Americans agreed with this statement on some level, the poll found, including just 9% of Democrats. And 49% said they disagree or strongly disagree.

The poll also found that a majority of Republicans (55%) say “the traditional American way of life is disappearing so fast we may have to use force to save it.” About 15% of Democrats agreed with this statement, but more Americans disagreed (46%) than agreed (34%).

Capitol riot defendant Robert Reeder was set to appear in court Wednesday when the proceedings were called off at the last minute due to new videos that surfaced showing his actions on Jan. 6.

BuzzFeed reported that Reeder pleaded guilty in June to a misdemeanor “parading, demonstrating and picketing the Capitol” charge, which would result in a low-level punishment. He was going to argue for no jail time, the report claimed.

Then everything changed.

The Sedition Hunters, a group of online activists that have dedicated months to looking through videos and photos to identify people at the Capitol Jan. 6, found Reeder attacking Capitol Police officers in a video.

Jenna Ryan, the infamous Dallas-area realtor who took a private plane to Washington before participating in the Capitol insurrection, has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of parading, demonstrating or picketing.

During her plea hearing on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper asked Ryan if she was “under the effects of any substances that would alter her ability to proceed,” according to a report from Jordan Fischer, an investigative reporter at Washington’s NBC affiliate.

“I had a single glass of wine last night,” Ryan reportedly responded.

“That doesn’t count,” Cooper replied before Ryan pleaded guilty.

NBC News reporter Scott MacFarlane, who covers the insurrectionist beat, tweeted that Friday is the day in which several people will be in court over the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Among the messages prosecutors found in the inspection of Oath Keepers’ phones was an Election Night chat that discussed a “shooting spree,” beginning with ” [Nancy] Pelosi first.”

He’s not the first one, as the New York Times documented several months ago. A Proud Boys supporter in New York was accused in Feb. 2021 of posting violent threats on the conservative social networking site Parler. A Colorado man was charged with sending a text about “putting a bullet” in Pelosi. A man living near Chicago left an alleged voicemail message about killing Democrats on Inauguration Day.

Kevin Tuck, part of a father-and-son police officer duo facing charges related to the January 6 Capitol riot, posted a new YouTube video calling for other conservatives to “rise up,” according to ABC affiliate WFTV-9 in Orlando.

Tuck is a former Windermere, FL police officer who joined his son Nathan at the riot — also a former Florida cop — and had boasted, “We stormed the Capitol, fought the police,” Kevin Tuck allegedly wrote. “… We took the flag. It’s our flag,” according to the FBI.

Another disgusting insurrectionist gets a plea deal…..

Robert Keith Packer, who was photographed wearing a “Camp Auschwitz” sweatshirt in the Capitol, was arrested in January and charged with two misdemeanors, including entering and remaining in a restricted building and violent entry and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building.

He pleaded guilty to both counts in February, but prosecutors on Tuesday said they have offered him a deal in exchange for his guilty plea, CNN reported.

While the federal government did not provide any additional details about the deal, several rioters facing similar lower-level charges in recent weeks have pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of illegally demonstrating inside the Capitol.

Why are these traitorous slugs getting off easy with plea deals?

When it comes to holding the January 6 US Capitol rioters to account, the Justice Department has plenty of tools in its prosecutorial toolbox — and plenty of critics who have questioned whether they are prosecuting defendants to the fullest extent of the law.

Some of the alleged rioters are facing felonies stacked upon felonies — an assortment of obstruction, assault and theft charges, like the Pennsylvania man who’s been accused of punching a police officer and stealing the officer’s body camera. But dozens of other alleged rioters could plead guilty to misdemeanors and walk away with a slap on the wrist.
 
Former prosecutors and other legal experts tell CNN that the strategy makes sense, as the department should prioritize its resources on the most dangerous of the mob participants, while securing cooperation from the more peripheral rioters to help build cases against the serious offenders.

Insurrection Update #12

My continuing updates of the true “day of Infamy”….the day Americans tried t bring down the pillars of our republic…..and it is not over…..

It seems some of those insurrectionists of 06 January have not learned a lesson from their arrest for their participation…..

Jeffrey Grace, who faces federal charges related to his involvement in the Jan. 6 breach at the US Capitol, appears to have taken part in a confrontation with left-wing counter-protesters in Portland, Ore. over the past weekend while awaiting trial.

Antifascists showed up at Tom McCall Waterfront Park on Aug. 7 to disrupt a prayer and worship service led by Artur Pawlowski, a controversial Canadian pastor who has in the past claimed God’s unhappiness with homosexuals caused a 2013 flood. The Portland Tribune reported that dozens of black-clad antifascists hurled smoke grenades and appeared to dismantle the public-address system for the Aug. 7 religious event in Portland. At the conclusion of the event, the newspaper reported, right-wingers armed with paintball guns, batons and other weapons who had gathered to support the religious event fired a paintball gun in response to an onslaught of pepper-spray from counter-protesters attempting to force them out of the park.

Jeffrey Grace, a Washington resident who lost his job as a long-haul trucker as a result of his involvement in the Jan. 6 breach, appears to be among a group of men seen in a photo departing the Aug. 7 rally. Nathan Howard, a freelance photographer, tweeted the photo depicting seven men piling into the back of a pickup truck, along with the descriptor, “Far-right extremists leave Portland after clashing with anti-fascists, Saturday Aug. 7, 2021.” Grace can be seen standing next to the truck’s cab, while holding a retractable baton while wearing a black cap with a distinctive red and gray insignia on the left side. A photo of Grace published by KGW shortly after his arrest for the Jan. 6 breach shows him wearing the same hat. Additionally, the man’s facial hair in the two photos is shaved in the same manner — a white goatee with the clean-shaven cheeks.

Then there are those traitors that think they deserve some sort of special treatment….like the ‘shaman’ that can only eat organic food….now there is one that says her chance for exercise is impeded….

Accused MAGA rioter Lisa Eisenhart is asking a court to loosen her pre-trial curfew and other restrictions because they’re crimping her exercise routine.

NBC 4 Washington’s Scott MacFarlane flags a new court filing from Eisenhart’s attorneys in which they argue their client’s curfew restrictions and electronic monitoring be eliminated entirely ahead of her upcoming trial.

Anticipating that the court will not agree to such a request, the lawyers then ask that only the curfew be kept in place and the electronic monitoring be eliminated.

“Beyond the cost and time savings to U.S. Probation, Ms. Eisenhart would also benefit from a release that will better allow for exercise and other routine activities of daily life,” the attorneys write.

A Jan. 6 rioter who fought violently and repeatedly with police at the Capitol is asking a judge to loosen his pretrial restrictions so that he can “walk his dog,” “work on the farm” and “volunteer with his church.”

Daniel Egtvedt is a politically connected, Trump-loving salesman from Maryland who posted about the QAnon conspiracy movement prior to the Capitol insurrection, according to the Daily Beast, which described his actions on Jan. 6 as a “nightmare for police.” According to a criminal complaint, Egtvedt was seen in photos and videos pushing through a line of Capitol police officers to storm the building before interacting bizarrely with several cops, including screaming at one to “shoot me.”

Several Capitol rioters pleading guilty to charges stemming from the Jan. 6 insurrection have remained defiant — prompting judges and prosecutors to consider revoking deals or seeking harsher sentences.

CNN cited the case of Boyd Camper, whose plea hearing was recently postponed after his attorney objected to an agreement saying he entered the Capitol “unlawfully.”

“Then this plea doesn’t go forward,” a judge told Camper’s lawyer. “If he’s in there and doesn’t think he did anything wrong, then there is no plea.”

In another case, Capitol rioter Robert Reeder argued he should receive probation because he only went into the Capitol to look for water after getting pepper-sprayed, and faulted police for not effectively guarding the building.

Barnhart, whom the FBI referred to as Capitol suspect 128-AFO because he was wanted for assaulting federal officers, was a major target for the “Sedition Hunters” community, which had given him the nickname “CatSweat” because he was wearing a sweatshirt branded with the name of Caterpillar, the construction equipment manufacturer. (Barnhart worked as a machine operator for Barnhart & Son Inc., which is owned by his father.)

HuffPost positively identified Barnhart before his arrest based on the work of citizen sleuths months ago, but held off on publishing his name based on his violent history (which included rioting charges when he was a teenager) and because the FBI was working on the case.

Jeffrey Smith was an officer with the Metropolitan Police in Washington, DC. He was attacked by rioters while defending the US Capitol from attack on Jan. 6, suffered a traumatic brain injury and, the day after he was sent back to work, shot and killed himself. A lawyer representing his widow, Erin, has filed a lawsuit against two men identified as Smith’s attackers. David Weber, Erin Smith’s attorney, said a group of people called the Deep State Dogs figured out who injured Smith using images posted online, the Washington Post reports.

Weber says the men are Taylor F. Taranto, a Navy veteran from Washington State, and David Walls-Kaufman, a chiropractor in DC. Smith’s widow wants her husband’s death to be declared to have been in the line of duty, and sought body cam footage from that day to help prove how he got the injury that doctors say led to his suicide. But DC Metropolitan Police haven’t released it, the Guardian reports. That’s where the Deep State Dogs came in—and it took them less than 24 hours to name Walls-Kaufman as the man who hit Smith in the face with something that looked like a cane or a crowbar, Huffington Post reports. They say in a tweet that they identified Taranto as the man who hands Walls-Kaufman his weapon just hours later.

Sue this tool for everything he is worth…take it all!

So we NEVER forget!

Let’s begin with the recognition of the bravery that the police showed during this failed coup…..Biden will honor these police officers….

President Biden on Thursday offered “profound gratitude” to law enforcement officers who responded to the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection as he signed legislation to award them Congressional Gold Medals for their service. The president thanked the officers for saving the lives of members of Congress during those “tragic hours” of the attack seven months ago, the AP reports. Joined by members of Congress, law enforcement officers, and the families of police who died after the attack, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris held the signing ceremony in the White House Rose Garden. Many officers were brutally beaten and injured that day as the violent mob of then-President Trump’s supporters pushed past them to break into the Capitol and interrupt the certification of Biden’s election victory. Many of the insurrectionists repeated Trump’s false claims about widespread fraud as they hunted for lawmakers and tried to beat down the doors of the House chamber with lawmakers inside.

“My fellow Americans, let’s remember what this was all about,” Biden said of the siege. “It was a violent attempt to overturn the will of the American people, to seek power at all costs, to replace the ballot with brute force. To destroy, not to build. Without democracy, nothing is possible. With it, everything is.” The Senate passed the medals legislation unanimously earlier this week. The law will place the medals in four locations: Capitol Police headquarters, the Metropolitan Police Department, the US Capitol, and the Smithsonian Institution. Biden said the medals will be at the Smithsonian “so all visitors can understand what happened that day.” The measure passed by voice vote, with no GOP objections. The House passed the bill in June, with 21 Republicans who have downplayed the insurrection in Trump’s defense voting against it. Some of the officers, including four who testified at a House hearing last week, have spoken openly about the lasting mental and physical scars.

Rep. Mo Brooks asked a federal judge to declare that he was immune from a civil lawsuit filed by Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) alleging that the Alabama Republican was among several high-profile political figures responsible for inciting supporters of Donald Trump to riot and overrun the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Floating a theory of immunity in a 44-page filing on Tuesday, Brooks claimed he was simply “cooperating” with the “White House,” a decision affecting his ability to perform his congressional duties.

The insurrection of 06 January has its first guilty pleas…….

A New Jersey gym owner and a Washington state man on Friday became the first people charged in the Jan. 6 riot at the US Capitol to plead guilty to assaulting a law enforcement officer during the deadly siege. The pair of plea deals with federal prosecutors could be a benchmark for dozens of other cases in which Capitol rioters are charged with attacking police, the AP reports. An attorney for Scott Kevin Fairlamb, a former mixed martial arts fighter who owned Fairlamb Fit gym in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, said prosecutors are seeking a sentencing guideline range of about 3½ to 4½ years in prison. Later Friday, the same judge in Washington, DC, ordered Devlyn Thompson jailed in Seattle after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer with a dangerous weapon, a baton. Thompson, 28, had been free since the riot. Fairlamb, 44, whose brother is a Secret Service agent, was one of the first rioters to breach the Capitol after others smashed windows using riot shields and kicked out a locked door, federal prosecutors said.

After leaving the building, Fairlamb harassed a line of police officers, shouting in their faces and blocking them, prosecutors wrote in a filing. A video shows him holding a collapsible baton and shouting, “What (do) patriots do? We f****** disarm them and then we storm the f****** Capitol!” US District Judge Royce Lamberth set sentencing for Sept. 27 for both Thompson and Fairlamb, who has been jailed since his Jan. 22 arrest. Thompson wasn’t arrested after he was charged last month with one count of assaulting a Metropolitan Police officer. His attorneys said in a filing that he has autism spectrum disorder. They cited that as a reason for keeping him out of jail while awaiting sentencing. It wasn’t immediately clear what prosecutors estimate the sentencing guidelines should be for Thompson. Fairlamb’s involvement in the riot has “eviscerated large parts of his life,” his attorney said. “He has lost his business. The mortgage on his home where he lives with his wife is in peril. And he has been publicly disgraced.”

Smacking down an insurrectionist’s claim that he didn’t know the Capitol was off limits, federal prosecutors are requesting jail time for the man they say remains “proud of his participation” in the events of Jan. 6.

Robert Reeder, of Maryland, pleaded guilty in June to a misdemeanor count of parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building. But his attorney took issue with language in the agreement, saying his client “wanted to establish for the record that he didn’t force his way into the Capitol and ‘did not realize he couldn’t enter,'” according to a report from WUSA9, Washington’s CBS affiliate.

Prosecutors responded in a sentencing memo filed Friday requesting that Reeder serve two months in jail, calling his claims “divorced from reality.”

“The defendant would ask the court to believe that despite being tear gassed and shot with pepper balls, he was simply unaware that entry into the Capitol was prohibited at the time,” prosecutors wrote. “A clear message must be sent to this defendant that he is being held responsible for all of his illegal conduct during the riots. Tellingly, (Reeder) continues to minimize his conduct…as an ‘accidental tourist with a phone trying to document everything.’ … The defendant chose to stand among the crowd and record as they yelled ‘Hang Mike Pence.'”

DOJ has issued a warning for this month…..

The Department of Homeland Security is raising the alarm. There’s a growing trend of calls for violence from conspiracy theorists who want former president Donald Trump reinstated, the agency said in a bulletin sent to state and local authorities. The Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol, an event preceded by similar online activity, has them spooked, ABC News reports. The warning isn’t tied to any specific threat, the DHS said, but they’re following online discussions among extremists.

False claims about the 2020 election have been spiking recently, fueled in part by MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell who has said he expects Trump to retake the presidency in August, the Daily Beast reports. Lindell said recently on Steve Bannon’s podcast that he thinks his argument is so persuasive that President Joe Biden will just resign. Although some of the online chatter references the Jan. 6 attack, DHS called the threat “modest,” CNN reports.

There has been chatter about 13 August and the day draws near….

Insurrection Update #9

My continuing series looking at the day of infamy, 06 January, and the events swirling around that could assist in yet another attempt to take over the government.

All the whining and bluster can be summed up by one Capitol rioter…..

“We weren’t there to steal things,” Kiczenski, who entered the Capitol on January 6, said, according to the book excerpt. “We weren’t there to do damage. We were just there to overthrow the government.”

That one statement alone should tell you everything you need to know about the day and the riot.

This is what wild conspiratorial BS wrought…..

Jarrod Copeland and Ian Rogers, who are part of a militia group linked to the Three Percenter network, are facing federal and state charges for their “specific, detailed, and serious” plot to attack a government building, destroying evidence, assembling bombs, and owning illegal machine guns. 

Prosecutors say the two men started hatching their plot on November 25, a few weeks after Joe Biden was declared the winner of the presidential election. 

“It will send a fucking message, man… Scare the whole country,” Rogers told Copeland in text messages recovered by the government.  

They initially talked about attacking the governor’s mansion but then shifted focus to the Democratic headquarters in Sacramento. According to prosecutors, they spent nearly two months planning their attack: they reviewed maps of the building’s layout, and discussed weaponry in-depth. They weighed various options; riddling it with gunfire, setting pipe bombs, or fire-bombing it.

A court hearing for MAGA rioter Pauline Bauer went off the rails on Monday after she began yelling at the judge while declaring herself a “sovereign citizen.”

NBC 4 Washington’s Scott MacFarlane reports that Bauer, who infamously called for the hanging of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) during the Capitol riots, immediately went off the deep end by telling the judge that she is not subject to American laws.

According to MacFarlane, Bauer during her court hearing repeatedly interrupted the judge while also demanding that the court recognize her own personal judicial authority.

“Every man is independent of all laws, except those of nature,” declared Bauer, who decided to represent herself in court.

A Florida man who breached the Senate chamber carrying a Trump campaign flag was sentenced Monday to eight months behind bars, the first resolution for a felony case in the Capitol insurrection, per the AP. Paul Allard Hodgkins apologized and said he was ashamed of his actions on Jan 6. Speaking calmly from a prepared text, he described being caught up in the euphoria as he walked down Washington’s most famous avenue, then followed a crowd of hundreds up Capitol Hill and into the Capitol building. “If I had any idea that the protest … would escalate (the way) it did … I would never have ventured farther than the sidewalk of Pennsylvania Avenue,” Hodgkins told the judge. He added: “This was a foolish decision on my part.”

Prosecutors had asked for Hodgkins to serve 18 months behind bars, saying in a recent filing that he, “like each rioter, contributed to the collective threat to democracy” by forcing lawmakers to temporarily abandon their certification of Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory over President Trump and to scramble for shelter from incoming mobs. His sentencing could set the bar for punishments of hundreds of other defendants as they decide whether to accept plea deals or go to trial. He and others are accused of serious crimes but were not indicted, as some others were, for roles in larger conspiracies. Hodgkins pleaded guilty last month to one count of obstructing an official proceeding, which carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop lesser charges, including entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct.

BS!  This tool should have served the full sentence…..I do not care if he apologized….there has got to be a lesson for stupidity.

Andrew Quentin Taake was arrested Friday by the FBI, which has accused him of pepper-spraying officers and striking them with a metal “whip-like device” at the January 6 Capitol riot.

And apparently it was Taake’s online dating foray that helped get him in trouble.

Taake, 32, of Houston, was tipped off to the FBI by someone who said they hadn’t met him — but was texting with him about the riot — on Bumble.

“Witness 1 messaged Taake on a dating app, Bumble, while he was in Washington, D.C.,” prosecutors allege. “Although Taake and Witness 1 never met in person, Taake discussed his participation in the riot with Witness 1 and sent Witness 1 several pictures of himself, including a picture of himself taken on January 6, 2021, after he was allegedly pepper sprayed by law enforcement officers. Witness 1 said Taake admitted to being inside the U.S. Capitol for approximately 30 minutes.”

Authorities in Ohio have arrested a suspect in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection, after a fellow rioter allegedly identified him and provided investigators with his phone number.

Erik Rau was arrested Thursday after being identified by fellow Central Ohioan Derek Jancart, Columbus’ ABC affilate reports.

“Court documents say Jancart admitted to entering the building with Rau and provided investigators with Rau’s phone number,” the station reported. “After a search warrant was filed, phone records show Rau was at the Capitol during the insurrection.”

Neumann, 48, of Mill Valley, CA continues to occupy a spot on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. He was captured on police bodycams at the riot wearing a MAGA hat and gas mask and launching both physical and profane verbal attacks against police, the FBI says.

Details of his violent action and profane tirade against police were released by the bureau just three days after Donald Trump ranted that there was “a lovefest” between Capitol Police and the insurrectionists and that the rioters were “tremendous.”

Relatives have been charged with participating in the January 6 riot at the US Capitol before, but this is the biggest family unit yet: Five members of a Texas nuclear family were arrested Tuesday. Kristi Munn, Tom Munn, Dawn Munn, Josh Munn, and Kayli Munn each face four federal charges, News Channel 10 reports: knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly conduct in a capitol building; and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a capitol building. An unidentified minor child was also allegedly brought into the building by the family; that child was not charged, ABC News reports.

A tipster alerted authorities that Kristi Munn posted on social media about having been at the Capitol that day; authorities then combed through the family members’ social media posts to gain information. Tom Munn, for example, allegedly posted, “The only damage to the capital building was several windows and sets of doors. Nothing inside the capital was damaged. I can tell you, patriots NEVER made it to the chamber. There was no violence in the capital building, the crowd was NOT out of control … they were ANGRY!!!”

A U.S. Capitol rioter who was diverted away from the Senate chamber will be released from jail while he awaits charges.

Doug Jensen, who was wearing a QAnon T-shirt when he confronted Capitol police officer Eugene Goodman during the Jan. 6 insurrection, was granted pretrial release after attorneys convinced District Court Judge Tim Kelly the Donald Trump supporter mistakenly believed he was at the White House.

“This is me touching the f*cking White House,” Jensen says in a newly released cell phone video, his hand placed on the Capitol as the riot raged around him.

Josiah Colt, 34, of Idaho admitted Wednesday to joining two others from Nevada and Tennessee in raising money, arranging travel, and purchasing paramilitary gear before breaking in to the Capitol building and rushing the Senate chamber, where he believed senators were meeting, reports the Post. Colt, who agreed to pay $1,000 in restitution, admitted to traveling to DC from Tennessee with the intention of obstructing the certification of the election results.

Ronald Sandlin of Memphis had shared a photo of Colt in bed holding a handgun on Jan. 4. “My fellow patriot Josiah Colt sleeping ready for the boogaloo Jan 6,” read the caption. Colt said he did not bring a gun to the Capitol and denied knowing the meaning of “boogaloo”—often used to refer to a violent uprising or civil war—at the time Sandlin used it. But he acknowledged breaching the Senate chamber and sitting in the presiding officer’s chair, mistakenly believing it was Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s chair. US District Judge Thomas F. Hogan recommended 51 months to 63 months in jail and a fine between $20,000 to $200,000, reports CBS News. Colt is due back in court on Oct. 18. Sandlin, 33, accused of punching a police officer, and Nate DeGrave, 31, of Las Vegas are both in custody after pleading not guilty to numerous charges.

Business Insider reported that far-right militias like the Oath Keepers and Three Percenters have faced legal and recruiting setbacks after the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol — but that they are trying to regroup with a new strategy: pushing anti-vaxxer propaganda.

“Members of the groups use apps such as Telegram to evade scrutiny and plot their next moves, experts told Insider,” reported Tom Porter. “On mainstream platforms such as Facebook they are seeking to pull in new recruits under the anti-vaccine cause. The development marked a new intertwining of two dangerous conspiracy-theory movements, according to Jason Blazakis, Director of Center on Terrorism, Extremism, and Counterterrorism at California’s Middlebury Institute of International Studies.”

According to the report, a Three Percenters affiliated Facebook page known as Mike’s Corner, which has half a million followers, has been selling anti-vaccine merchandise, including a shirt saying “PLANDEMIC: MY BODY, MY CHOICE”. Facebook, which likely made revenue off the page, took it down for violating community standards after Insider reached out to them.

wo California men plotted to destroy the state Democratic headquarters in Sacramento, hoping the attack would inspire a political movement, the Justice Department says. Ian Benjamin Rogers, 45, of Napa, and Jarrod Copeland, 37, of Vallejo, have been indicted by a federal grand jury, NBC reports. The charges include conspiracy to destroy a building with fire or explosives and possession of machine guns. The men had been planning the attack since the presidential election last fall, officials said, and had turned to a militia group for help. Copeland was arrested Wednesday, while Rogers was arrested in January and already faces charges of stockpiling illegal weapons.

Searches of Rogers’ home and business found close to 50 guns, thousands of rounds of ammunition, materials that could be used to produce explosives, and how-to books such as The Anarchist Cookbook, officials said. “I thank the FBI for their work,” the state Democratic chair of Sacramento County said, “but in this day and age we should not be concerned about violence and terrorism just for participating in the democratic process.” This is no way to support a constitutional democracy, the acting US attorney in Sacramento agreed, per KCRA. “Investigation and prosecution of those who choose violence over discussion is as important as anything else we do to protect our free society,” she said

I have taken upon myself to keep the memory of the events in and around the 06 January in the minds of my readers…….NOTHING about that day should ever be forgotten.

Tensions are rising in Whidbey Island, Seattle, after residents say a right-wing extremist group is tearing the fabric of the community apart, The Daily Beast reports.

The tension started when the The Washington III Percent militia took control of the local Grange association (a community gathering place) and began rejecting membership applications from anyone not aligned with them. Now, III Percenter flags and bumper stickers have increasingly popped up around town and left-wing rallies.

“They’ve been trying to do this for quite some time now: Extremists running for office, local elections, you know, county councils, state legislatures, things like that,” said Daryl Johnson, a former Homeland Security analyst who runs DT Analytics. “Once it creeps in, if nobody challenges, it becomes the new norm.”

Those participants on 06 January are trying to delete their footprint off social media ahead of their arrest…..proves they are ‘guilty’….

At least 49 people charged in connection with the riots were accused of deleting incriminating content off their social media and phones, the AP found, but only a handful have actually faced charges for tampering with online content.

Experts told the AP, deleting the content shows how desperate the defendants were to manipulate evidence against them once they realized they were in legal trouble and that could make getting a plea deal or any other kind of leniency difficult.

According to a report from the Daily Beast’s Kelly Weill, members of the Oath Keepers militia— reportedly comprised of former law enforcement officers and military vets — are breaking ranks and pointing fingers at each other as they pursue plea bargain deals related to their participation in the Jan 6th Capitol insurrection.

While the Wall Street Journal has been reporting on internal strife as members question how the organization’s founder Stewart Rhoades is funding his “lifestyle” with their dues, others are more concerned with staying out of jail. And if that means providing investigators with information about their compatriots for a lighter sentence or charges being dropped — they don’t have a problem with that.

“In recent weeks, a steady drumbeat of Oath Keepers and their associates have pleaded guilty to crimes related to the Jan. 6 break-in at the U.S. Capitol, and agreed to cooperate with further investigations into the deadly riot. For the Oath Keepers, more so than almost any other group that participated in the break-in, those cooperation agreements could prove troubling to members anxious about catching charges,” Weill wrote. “Of the more than 500 people charged in the riot, members of the Oath Keepers are among the only defendants accused of conspiracy for allegedly plotting the assault on the building, in an attempt to block the certification of President Joe Biden’s election victory.”

You want to know what has doomed Nancy Pelosi’s attempts to get a bipartisan agreement to investigate the violent assault on the Capitol on Jan. 6? Every time she has talked about why we need a bipartisan commission or the select committee, she said they were necessary “so nothing like this will ever happen again.” 

Republicans aren’t against investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection because they fear it will make them look bad. They’re against doing anything to make sure that such an insurrection doesn’t happen again.

The assault on the Capitol is already damaging to the Republican Party image, at least to outsiders. The Capitol was attacked by a violent mob of Trump supporters. It’s doubtful there were any Democrats among them. The assault took place immediately after a Trump rally on the Ellipse and was incited by the then-president. Several Republican members of Congress joined Trump in addressing the crowd, along with other famous party stalwarts like Rudy Giuliani. It was a Republican rally with a Republican crowd. So was the mob at the Capitol.

Federal investigators seized an unusual piece of evidence from a Pennsylvania man indicted last month for his role in the Capitol riot—a Lego replica of the building he allegedly stormed. Robert Morss, 27, is accused of leading fellow rioters in what prosecutors say was “one of the most intense and prolonged clashes” with officers on Jan. 6. According to court documents obtained by Smoking Gun, FBI investigators seized an array of firearms from his home—as well as what the court filings described as a “fully constructed U.S. Capitol Lego set.” The prosecutors didn’t say whether Morss used his toy to help plan the Capitol insurrection.  Another item seized from Morss was a notebook containing a “Step by Step to Create Hometown Militia,” with steps such as “Ambush” and “Battle Drills” and reminders to “Bring Assault Rifle” and “4 Magazines.”

DOJ charges Floridians in their part in the insurrection…..

The Justice Department unveiled a major indictment Thursday against five Floridians accused of attacking at least seven police officers during the US Capitol insurrection.

Prosecutors say the defendants, all from the Tampa Bay area, repeatedly attacked members of Washington, DC’s police force. They allegedly used stolen riot shields and flagpoles to assault officers in the head and neck, and later resorted to punching, kicking, and elbowing the officers.
 
The indictment includes 19 criminal counts, which is among the most for a Capitol riot case.
 
Then there are those the claim the ‘Bible made them do it’…..
According to a report from the Daily Beast’s Kelly Weill, one of the Capitol rioters taken into custody by the FBI has chosen to represent herself on charges of multiple counts of violent entry, disruptive conduct, and obstruction of Congress — and is citing the Bible as part of her defense.

Prosecutors maintain that Pauline Bauer, owner of a Pennsylvania pizza parlor, took part in the Jan 6th insurrection and reportedly told Capitol police “bring Nancy Pelosi out here now… we want to hang that f*cking b*tch.”

Weill reports that Bauer is using a sovereign citizen defense — saying she doesn’t recognize the laws of the U.S. government — and that she is operating under “divine guidance.”

One insurrectionist gets out with “Time Served”….

A defendant in the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol was given a six-month jail sentence Monday, but because he’s been held since the week after the riot, Michael Curzio will go free Wednesday. Judge Carl Nichols said in federal court that he lacked the authority to impose a longer sentence anyway, CNN reports. “I think that six-month sentence is appropriate here,” Nichols said, nothing that “Mr. Curzio will have, in two days, served that entire sentence.” Curzio took the standard deal offered to riot defendants who didn’t commit violence, pleading guilty to one count of unlawfully protesting in the Capitol and being fined $500 for repairs to the building. “Obviously, I was in the wrong,” Curzio said in court, per ClickOrlando. “I did do it.”

Curzio’s record is the reason he hadn’t been released before trial. He was convicted of attempted murder for shooting the boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend. While in prison, Curzio became a member of a white supremacist gang. He has said that he did that for his own protection and that he’s no longer an active member. But he still has gang tattoos and Nazi markings. On Jan. 6, prosecutors said, Curzio was in a group that invaded the Capitol Visitors Center. Police arrested Curzio and others after they didn’t leave when ordered to. Curzio said he didn’t hear the order to leave but said, “I did parade, demonstrate and picket.” He said he complied during his arrest. “I accept responsibility for my actions and what I did,” Curzio told the judge. More than a dozen other riot defendants are awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty.

The context: Putin is likely to come under strong criticism from Biden at their meeting in Geneva for moves against his political opponents in Russia, particularly the imprisonment of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the detention of thousands of demonstrators protesting his arrest, and the outlawing of Navalny’s organizations as extremist. “You are presenting it as dissent and intolerance toward dissent in Russia,” Putin said in an interview with NBC News. “We view it completely differently.” He then pointed to the Jan. 6 unrest in Washington.

“Do you know that 450 individuals were arrested after entering the Congress?” he said. “They came there with political demands.”

Josh and Jessica Bustle have reached a plea agreement for their participation in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. Jessica infamously posted on social media that Vice President Mike “Pence is a traitor.”

The couple was charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, knowingly engaging in disorderly or disruptive conduct in restricted building or grounds, violent entry and disorderly conduct on capitol grounds, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in Capitol buildings.

“Several tips were received indicating that Jessica BUSTLE and her husband Joshua BUSTLE were present at the Capitol and entered the building,” said the Statement of Facts from the Justice Department. “These tips included Facebook postings which appear to have been made by Jessica BUSTLE.”

A new federal intelligence report warns that adherents of QAnon, the conspiracy theory embraced by some in the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol, could target Democrats and other political opponents for more violence as the movement’s false prophecies don’t come true.

Many QAnon followers believe former President Donald Trump was fighting enemies within the so-called “deep state” to expose a cabal of Satan-worshipping cannibals operating a child sex-trafficking ring. Trump’s loss to President Joe Biden disillusioned some believers in “The Storm,” a supposed reckoning in which Trump’s enemies would be tried and executed. Some adherents have now pivoted to believing Trump is the “shadow president” or Biden’s victory was an illusion.

The report was compiled by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security and released Monday by Senator Martin Heinrich, a New Mexico Democrat. It predicts that while some QAnon adherents will pull back, others “likely will begin to believe they can no longer “trust the plan” referenced in QAnon posts and that they have an obligation to change from serving as “digital soldiers” toward engaging in real-world violence.”

As an example, Griffin showed part of his discussion with Donovan Crowl, a retired Marine and member of the far-right paramilitary group the Oath Keepers, who is facing multiple charges stemming from his invasion of the Capitol — but who doesn’t view it as a serious situation. “I was hanging out with some of the wrong people it seems like, but I didn’t really do anything, so I feel pretty good that my case is going to come out and show that.”

A U.S. Capitol rioter says he attacked a police officer during the Jan. 6 insurrection because the officer made fun of the Donald Trump supporters violently storming the building.

Newly released video shows 54-year-old Thomas Webster, a Marine Corps veteran and former New York City police officer, screaming profanities at officers and striking at least one of them with a flagpole before tackling the officer, but his defense attorneys intend to blame the victim for the attack, reported MSNBC’s Scott MacFarlane.

“Showing little regard for the peaceful protesters present, Officer N.R. can be seen reaching over the metal barrier and pushing a peaceful male protester wearing a maroon sweatshirt who was blinded by pepper spray,” a court filing says. “Officer N.R. can also be observed mocking several protesters who were complaining about this Officer’s excessive use of force.”

Waco Tribune-Herald reported that a man from Gatesville, Texas who claimed he felt “invincible” storming the Capitol is among the many arrested by the FBI for their involvement in the incident.

Stacy Wade Hager, 57, was arrested May 27 in Waco after someone who saw his Facebook posts alerted federal authorities.

“Photos from the riot show Hager wearing a ‘Trump’ baseball cap and carrying a Texas flag. Hager is seen on a video talking to a District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department officer outside the Capitol, according to records in his case. The officer told Hager, ‘Nah, nah, I get it, you are just walking up behind our line,’ according to federal records,” wrote the Waco Tribune-Herald. “‘Hager then responded: ‘Actually that was my purpose.’ The MPD officer continued, ‘If you could not, we are all trying to stay safe and get home.’ Hager replied, ‘I know you are and I really appreciate y’all.’ However, Hager continued to walk past the MPD officer and through the barricades where he was instructed by police not to go,’ according to federal records.”

The investigation into potential ties between key figures in the riot and those who promoted former president Donald Trump’s false assertions that the election was stolen from him does not mean those who may have influenced rioters will face criminal charges, particularly given U.S. case law surrounding incitement and free speech, the people said. Officials at this stage said they are principally seeking to understand what the rioters were thinking — and who may have influenced beliefs — which could be critical to showing their intentions at trial.

One insurrectionist is trying to find a way to lessen the penalty for her actions on 06 January….

An Indiana woman, expected Wednesday to be the first of more than 400 people charged in the Capitol attack to be sentenced, has agreed to plead guilty to a single federal charge, saying movies and books have showed her what life is like for nonwhite people. In a letter to the judge, Anna Morgan-Lloyd of Bloomfield apologized for entering the Capitol building and failing to remove herself from a violent crowd. Had she done so, violent participants “may have lost the nerve to do what they did,” wrote the 49-year-old grandmother, per the Indianapolis Star. “For that I am sorry and take responsibility.” Attached to her letter were movie and book reports for Schindler’s List, which tells of a factory owner’s efforts to save 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust, and Just Mercy, which explores Bryan Stevenson’s career fighting against racial injustice in the legal system.

Morgan-Lloyd said she’d “lived a sheltered life,” per HuffPost. But “I’ve learned that even though we live in a wonderful country, things still need to improve. People of all colors should feel as safe as I do to walk down the street.” On Facebook, she’d described Jan. 6 as the “best day ever,” adding she was among “the first 50 people” inside the Capitol, per WUSA. But she now says she’s “ashamed” at how the events of the day unfolded. Initially charged with four counts, she’ll plead guilty to misdemeanor parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building in exchange for three years probation, a $500 fine, and 40 hours of community service, per WUSA. Acting US Attorney Channing Phillips has agreed to the deal, acknowledging her remorse, lack of criminal history, and cooperation. Authorities note she didn’t engage in violence or damage property.
