Pentagon Does The Right Thing

In my opinion for the wrong reasons…..

The Pentagon has come out on the side of ‘reproductive rights’….(for now)

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Friday that the Pentagon is working to ensure that members of the military, their families and its civilian employees will still have access to “reproductive health care” after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Why it matters: The Defense Department currently does not have a policy to accommodate service members or employees who are seeking an abortion but are stationed in a state that has outlawed abortion, Politico reports.

  • Federal law currently allows military medical facilities to provide abortions only in cases of rape, incest or if a woman’s life is in danger, while the military’s health program is allowed to cover abortions at private facilities for those same reasons only.

What they’re saying: “Nothing is more important to me or to this Department than the health and well-being of our Service members, the civilian workforce and DOD families,” Austin said in a statement on Friday.

  • “I am committed to taking care of our people and ensuring the readiness and resilience of our Force. The Department is examining this decision closely and evaluating our policies to ensure we continue to provide seamless access to reproductive health care as permitted by federal law,” he added.

The big picture: The court’s decision may further strain the military’s recruitment efforts — already hampered by low employment and other factors as potential recruits may fear being stationed in states that have banned abortions, according to Bloomberg.

  • Women make up around 20% of the military’s 1.3 million-member active-duty force, and 95% of them are of reproductive age, according to Stars and Stripes citing department statistics.

Ain’t that some kind of special?

My thoughts is that this will be a recruiting tool…..I mean the Pentagon has a hard time doing anything about sexual assaults, rape and such, in the military why else would they be so concerned about reproductive rights?

Next this ought o make conservs lose their under productive little minds.  (Something that would give me hours of enjoyment)

But here is a thought for them….punish the Pentagon by slashing their budget by $250 billion and use the cash for infrastructure and social programs.

That is just my wishful thinking for that will never happen….the M-IC and its oligarchs will slip lots of cash to our Congress to soothe their troubled minds.

This is nothing more than a news trap….in other words bullsh*t.

Any thoughts of this little piece of theater?

After 4 Hours Call Your Doctor……

Finally, after a week of research and mind numbing tedious details the weekend has arrived and I will do anything but research…..

For years now there has been a battle royal going on in political circles…..that is the issue of women’s rights and their control of their own bodies.  We know about the games that are being played just to drive home their personal beliefs…..to the point of being totally ridiculous……

A politico from South Carolina has made a move that ought to get a bit of attention……

“I purposely tried to make it as invasive, as intrusive, as hypocritical and unnecessary as possible to make the point.” This from South Carolina Rep. Mia McLeod, who pre-filed legislation Thursday designed to drive a point home about women’s reproductive rights. To wit: She’s attempting to make it as hard for men to get erectile dysfunction drugs as it is for women to get an abortion, NBC News reports. Under her bill, a man attempting to obtain Viagra or Cialis would need to undergo a 24-hour waiting period after getting the script; undergo an exam by a sex therapist to rule out “psychological conditions;” take regular stress tests to ensure he’s healthy enough for sex; produce a notarized affidavit from a sex partner who can back up his ED claims; and go to at least three sessions of outpatient counseling, where he’d be encouraged to “pursue celibacy as a viable lifestyle choice.”

McLeod, a Democrat, tells WCBD that, after being irked by anti-abortion bills that get filed regularly, she was inspired to show male colleagues what it was like to have their reproductive rights in the crosshairs. South Carolina is one of several states that has been investigating its abortion clinics (it has three) after the Planned Parenthood imbroglio, the Savannah Morning News reports. Not that McLeod is hopeful this bill will sail through. “I don’t think it’ll pass,” she tells WCBD. “We’re in a male-dominated legislature … and I really just want to broaden the discussion and get people thinking about … the issues that women face who are seeking legal abortion services in this state.”

This oughta piss off a bunch of old farts that need the pill to get their freak on…..

Could This Be The Way Of The Future?

The Radical Right has got to be jumping up and down…..this story could lead to legislation in those lame Red States…….(about now some will be scratching their heads and asking ‘huh’?)

Let me explain……..

On Monday, 33-year-old Purvi Patel became the first US woman to be “charged, convicted, and sentenced for the crime of feticide for having attempted to end her own pregnancy,” according to a press release issued by National Advocates for Pregnant Women. In its report, the Washington Post notes that while the 20-year sentence she is due to serve “brought an end to Patel’s trial … it may be only the beginning of the public debate about the details of her case.” The case began in July 2013, when Patel went to St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka, Indiana, bleeding and with a protruding umbilical cord, a doctor testified. Patel later revealed that she had a miscarriage and had left the fetus, which she says was stillborn, in a dumpster. Prosecutors argued the baby was born alive, hence the child neglect charge.

The feticide charge (which PRI frames as “normally used against those who harm pregnant women”) was based on text messages Patel sent indicating she had taken drugs purchased from China in an attempt to abort her fetus, reports the AP; tests showed no such drugs in her or the fetus, however. She was in February found guilty on both counts, though many have argued the two charges were “legally contradictory.” PRI reports that the gestational age of the fetus was fiercely debated at the trial. Her defense argued it was at most 24 weeks old, and would not have survived even with medical intervention; NBC News reports prosecutors argued she was 25 weeks along in their opening statement, and the aforementioned doctor testified that he thought the fetus was as many as 30 weeks. Patel indicated she would appeal. (In Indiana, a man was charged with attempted feticide after police say he spiked a woman’s drink with special herbs.)

I am not going to go into some diatribe on abortion……I will leave that to the more rabid of readers…….all I am saying that this could well be a factor in conservative politics in some states……

Right now all the d/bags are drooling over the Menendez thing and of course the Indiana situation….maybe they will not notice…….but do not be surprised if this comes back in an election cycle…….would make for great sound bites for one of those “also rans”…….

Reproductive Rights: Return To Crap!

Now that we have a GOP controlled Congress some old issues will be in the firing field again…….of course if you speak with a Right wing mental titan (that is sarcasm in case you missed it) they will try to dress you down for even considering that there is a major push on the rights of women……and they will be forceful in their condemnation of such an accusation……

Congress will be zeroing in on reproductive rights of women…..and here are the attacks to watch……
