A Dinosaur Named Pawlenty

I wish this was to be a Pixar feature for those with the mentality of a turnip…..but unfortunate it is NOT!

GOP 2012 nominee hopeful Tim Pawlenty made his “big” economic speech and what did it say?  NOTHING that is new….but rather a re-hash of the tired old policies of the GOP for the last couple of decades…..tax cuts and then there is the….tax cuts and finally there is tax cuts…….

Some of the major points of his speech…….

We should start by overhauling the tax code. Its currently an anti-growth — nine thousand page monstrosity.      That’s chock full of special deals for special interests. It’s main goal — seems to be to generate campaign contributions. Not jobs.

American businesses today pay the second highest tax rates in the world. That’s a recipe for failure — not adding jobs and economic growth.

We should cut the business tax rate by more than half. I propose reducing the current rate from 35% to 15%.

But our policies can’t just be about simply cutting rates. They must also promote freedom and free markets. The tax code is littered with special interest handouts — carve-outs — subsidies — and loopholes. That should be eliminated.

Such reform would not only help offset short-term revenue loss from the rate cuts. But it would also reduce cronyism — favoritism — and government manipulating markets for political purposes.

Under my plan — those who currently pay no income tax would stay at a zero rate.        After that — the first fifty-thousand dollars of income or one-hundred thousand for married couples — would be taxed at 10%.

Everything above that would be taxed at 25%.    That’s it.

A one-third cut in the bottom rate.To allow younger — middle — and lower-income families to save and build wealth.  And a  28% cut in the top rate — to spur investment and job creation.

In addition — we should eliminate altogether the capital gains tax — interest income tax — dividends tax — and the death tax.Government has no moral or economic basis to claim a second share of the same income.

There it is….the same song…different singer……..there is NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING new in his song to the base…..but do not take my word for it…..check out his speech and tell me what is new in his proposals?

The GOP’s New “Truth Teller”

(Pause here for the raucous laughter to subside)

I awoke the other day and found that Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota was running for the GOP nomination of the GOP……crap!  I did not know there was any doubt…..why would you need to announce the obvious?  I guess he was waiting fore Mitch Daniels to wimp out.

Anyway, what are his chances?  If this was a normal election cycle, I would say …next to nothing….but it is NOT normal and anything goes….he has pretty much embraced a lot of the stuff the Tea party wants….and did so without conceding that they are views of the TP……He is a normal GOP candidate……an empty suit!

We do not have to worry about his personality getting in the way of his candidacy….he has NONE!

His newest video that announced his candidacy was the typical GOP video…..it did a lot of chest thumping and criticizing OBama but did NOTHING to tell the voter what his “new” and “innovated” ideas were going to be……but the video does have a really cute tag line……

“We’ve tried President Obama’s way … and his way has failed. Three years into his term, we’re no longer just running out of money. We’re running out of time,” he said. “It’s time for new leadership.  It’s time for a new approach. And it’s time for America’s president — and anyone who wants to be president — to look you in the eye and tell you the truth.”

Now, is that the lamest thing you have ever heard?  When was the last time you got the truth out of a politician?

The media is all a tither about another candidate to the field of GOP wannabes…..now they have another candidate that they can focus on and let the bat shit crazies stay on FOX……beyond all that….ALL candidates are telling me just how messed up the Obama term has been and that everything is his fault from the economy to the failed rapture….and all that may be true….the problem is that NOT one GOP candidate has told me their plan for changing things………

Just a suggestion….if you want to be president maybe you should have solid plans, other than blaming the current president…..just a thought!

BTW….does Pawlenty really have a chance at the nomination?

Tim Pawlenty’s hometown newspaper, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, ran the story of his presidential campaign announcement on the Obituary page this morning, City Pages reports.
