Will The “Real” Reagan Please Stand up?

Finally, the day has come….the day the pundits have been jerking off about for 3 years……the day the good people of Iowa go to their caucuses and pick a GOP candidate that they want to see run for the position of prez for the party………will it be Paul or Romney or Newt or maybe one of those other guys whose names will soon be forgotten……the season will begin tomorrow……and all the GOP wannabes will be saying that they are the embodiment of their late God, Ronald Reagan….he has passed on and cannot defend himself but I want to point out just what it is that all these GOPers are saying when they invoke the name of…..REAGAN!

1. Reagan cut taxes for the Rich, increased taxes on the Middle Class
Ronald Reagan is loved by conservatives and was loved by big business throughout his presidency and there’s a reason for it. When Reagan came into office in January of 1981, the top tax rate was 70%, but when he left office in 1989 the top tax rate was down to only 28%. As Reagan gave the breaks to all his rich friends, there was a lack of revenue coming into the federal government. In order to bring money back into the government, Reagan was forced to raise taxes eleven times throughout his time in office. One example was when he signed into law the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982. Reagan raised taxes seven of the eight years he was in office and the tax increases were felt hardest by the lower and middle class.

2. Tripling the National Debt
As Reagan cut taxes for the wealthy, the government was left with less money to spend. When Reagan came into office the national debt was $900 billion, by the time he left the national debt had tripled to $2.8 trillion.
3. Iran/Contra
In 1986, a group of Americans were being held hostage by a terrorist group with ties to Iran. In an attempt to free the hostages, Ronald Reagan secretly sold arms and money to Iran. Much of the money that was received from the trade went to fund the Nicaragua Contra rebels who were in a war with the Sandinista government of Nicaragua. When the scandal broke in the Untied States it became the biggest story in the country, Reagan tried to down play what happened, but never fully recovered.
4. Reagan funded Terrorists
The attacks on 9/11 by al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden brought new attention to international terrorism. All of a sudden, Americans coast to coast wore their American flag pins, ate their freedom fries and couldn’t wait to go to war with anyone who looked like a Muslim. What Americans didn’t realize was that the same group that attacked the United States on 9/11 was funded by Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. Prepping for a possible war with the Soviet Union, Ronald Reagan spent billions of dollars funding the Islamist mujahidin Freedom Fighters in Afghanistan. With billions of American dollars, weapons and training coming their way, the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden took everything they were given and gave it back to the United States over a decade later in the worst possible way imaginable.
5. Unemployment issues
When Ronald Reagan came into office 1981, unemployment was at 7.5%. After Reagan cut taxes for the wealthy, he began raising taxes on the middle and lower class. Corporations started to ship more jobs out of the United States while hiring cheap foreign labor in order to make a bigger profit. While corporations made billions, Americans across the country lost their jobs. As 1982 came to a close, unemployment was nearly 11%. Unemployment began to drop as the years went on, but the jobs that were created were low paying and barely helped people make ends meet. The middle and lower class had their wages nearly frozen as the top earners saw dramatic increases in salary.
6. Ignoring AIDS
By the time the 1980s came around, AIDS had become one of the most frightening things to happen to the country in recent memory. No one understood what AIDS and HIV really was and when people don’t understand something, they become scared of it. The fear of the unknown was sweeping across the country and Americans needed a leader to speak out about this horrible virus, that leader never came. Instead of grabbing the bull by the horns and taking charge, Reagan kept quiet. Reagan couldn’t say the words AIDS or HIV until seven years into his presidency, a leader not so much.
7. Reagan gave amnesty to 3 million Undocumented Immigrants
In today’s GOP, the idea of any immigrant staying in the United States whether they are legal or illegal isn’t something that conservatives embrace. What might shock them is that in 1982 Ronald Reagan gave nearly 3 million undocumented workers amnesty. The biggest reason for undocumented workers coming to the United States is because corporations hire them at a cheaper rate than they would an American citizen. All the laws that would have cracked down on companies who hire undocumented workers were, of course, removed from the bill.
8. His attack on Unions and the Middle Class The Republican war on unions and the middle class has been heating up in states like Wisconsin and Ohio, but it has been going on for a long time. Unions are formed to give a united voice to the workers in an attempt to create fairness between the corporations and their employees. On August 3rd, 1981, PATCO (Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization) went on strike in an effort to get better pay and safer working conditions. Two days later, taking the side of business, Ronald Reagan fired 11,345 workers for not returning to work…….(Thank you to Robt. Sobel for research into the policies of Reagan)……
You can be pissed at Obama, I am, but be careful what you wish for or things could only get worse than they are now……our country CANNOT afford the policies of the GOP any longer….either we move forward or we stick in the mud of non-progress….you have to decide….so choose……. but choose wisely!

A View From Waterloo

The sleepy time debate is over and the total waste of time, the Iowa Straw Poll, is also over……we gained a GOP candidate and we lost one….the candidates fed the voters, entertained the voters and then the voter made its mark and the winner was Bachmann….the biggest loser was Huntsman….and now I would like to give a few observations from the dinner that a couple of the GOPers showed up to talk at in Waterloo…that is Iowa if you were not sure……

First, the anointed frontrunner of the mainstream media….Bachmann….I watched her little performance in Iowa and found a quote that says it all….at least to me….Bachmann said…..”We need social conservs in the tent…..without them we have NO chance of beating Barak Obama”…..that says it all!  The GOP has NOTHING to offer the American people but social issues….you know like who gets married, who should smoke, who should pray and where….stuff like that….social conservs….they have NO answers to the economic crisis but they sure want to jump into the middle of your life and tell you what to do…..that statement by Bachmann should be the rallying point for Dems….

And then there is the new guy on the political block……Rick Perry.  I did not know much about him other than the sound bites that the mainstream media wanted me to know….so I decided to watch his speech in Waterloo……after 30+ years of watching and listening to politicians and the manure they spread to get elected….I have this observation about Perry…..Watch his eyes when he speaks…..he is disingenuous and not even he believes the manure he shovels…..he is a cheap actor and a “snake oil” salesman…..

My view about these two so-called frontrunners……we will know after the first real debate held in September at the Reagan Library….if either one of these two are capable of being presidential material….my guess is that at least one of them falls on his/her face and will be nothing more than a flash in the pan…..

One In, One Out

Saturday, all eyes were on Iowa…..all 6 of them…..it was the straw poll that the media had been waiting on and telling the American viewer just how important it was to the complete picture of the upcoming 2012 election…..first of all it is a worthless waste of time and resources…..about 1% or less of the population is involved in it…second, the people of Iowa are NOT representative of the thinking and feeling of the country…..other than those things it is just something to do while they wait for real news to come along…

For those that just have to know the out come of this brazen snooze feast…..Bachmann wins….Ron Paul is second and good old Pawlenty was third and the rest of the field duked it out for single digit results…..a thrilling down to the wire wet dream…..

One In!

While all the usual suspects were trashing the Prez and his policies….the darling of the radical right came a calling…….that is right!  Gov. Rick Perry of Texas has thrown his hat into the ring of fire….he announced his candidacy just before the straw poll was taken in Iowa while in South Carolina….now the GOP has a true “snake oil” salesman running for the nomination….and now the dissection of his record will begin and he will be exposed to the light of truth….the brainless now have their “savior”…… (let us pray)…..

One Out!

T-Paw as he is lovingly called in the mainstream media, had a pretty good showing in Iowa….he finished third….but after much deliberation he has decided to take a powder…He withdrew from the nomination process…..he saw the handwriting on the wall…Perry in and Bachmann leading the field now because of her win of a non-important straw poll….I guess since he could not persuade 1% of the population that he had good ideas that it was time to go home and plan another day….

I listened to each of the candidates in different interviews and you know I had to snicker……they point out a lot of problems and we do have a lot of them, but NOT one of these medicine show freaks has any idea how to fix the problems other than trashing the Prez….it will be humorous to listen and watch the upcoming GOP events to see if any of them actually have an idea that would be worth our valuable time as a voter…..I am sure there is one!  (but I have been mistaken in the past)……..

GOP Debate #2

I thought that since there was a full field of candidates, all vying for the GOP nomination, I would check out the debate…..FOX stated that the talking points would be left behind and that the candidates would be asked substantive questions…..and once the debate began it was all about talking points…..this will be the last FOX sponsored debate I will watch….

And once again all the candidates told the viewer that Obama BAD!  Dems BAD!  There are NO solutions from the Right….it is not in their DNA!

Even thought the questions were soft ball and tossed up for more talking points….a few of the candidates stood out…..Mitt look presidential…….Gingrich was angry….and Pawlenty went after Bachmann….and that was about it……but people want a score card….so here is mine…..

Mitt was invisible and did not put his foot in his mouth like he had earlier when he told the peoploe that “corporations are people”…..for that reason I give him the win.

Bachmann and Pawlenty went back and forth…..and I gave the edge to Pawlenty….but it will not be enough to catapult him into the lead in Iowa….

Gingrich got angry at FOX and put the mediator in his place for asking him a non-political question….even with that…..Newt is dead in the water…..

Huntsman…..why?  He was the most invisible candidate up on the stage…..he needs to improve or he too can go home and watch reality TV….

Santorum, Paul and Cain…..they are worthless and useless time for them to go home and stop wasting time and money….

There it is…..this was no where near a real debate….talking points and cute littler one liners was all that I heard….NO solutions….NO plans……and NO interest!
