Racism 101: The Apology

The Univ of Oklahoma’s frat,  SAE,  on a day trip was taped singing a very racist song, basically about lynching a black person……the vid was leaked and a scandal was afoot.

Fter a couple of weeks of coverage and the media attempting to have the “Race” conversation……one of the song leaders has stepped forward with an apology…..his name is Levi Pettit….this person was surrounded by local reps, NAACP and a batch of preachers…….and his disingenuous apology began……..

“There are no excuses for my behavior. I never thought of myself as a racist. I never considered it a possibility,” Pettit, flanked by clergy and black civic leaders, told reporters at an Oklahoma City church. “But the bottom line is that the words that were said in that chant were mean, hateful and racist.

“I will be deeply sorry and deeply ashamed of what I’ve done for the rest of my life,” he said.

“I knew they were wrong but I never knew how or why they were wrong and the people I’ve met with … have opened my eyes to really put meaning behind those words,” he said as a community leader standing behind him patted him on the back. “Meeting with a few people does not change what I did, but it has begun to change me.”

This yutz was reading from a script and his tome was so disingenuous that it was pathetic….my thought was….would this a/hole apologize if he had not been caught on tape?  And just how much did Daddy pay for all that support the community was giving this guy…..they said that they accepted his apology……..must have been a mountain of money…….then ask….why would these people forgive him….what is their motivation?

Now the biggest piece of crap in his little speech was when he said……….””I knew they were wrong but I never knew how or why they were wrong and the people I’ve met with … have opened my eyes to really put meaning behind those words,”…..are you telling me that this 20 year old did not know that it was hurtful, wrong and outright racist?

Was this bigot home schooled?  Where has he been for the last couple of years with all the hate speak that has made the news?

I hope that the African-American community does NOT accept his apology……his speech was, as I have said, disingenuous, cold and aloof….he made it to get daddy off his back……he was a racist when he lead the song and I bet that he is still a racist…..this illustrates why we CANNOT have an adequate conversation on race….too many settle for crap!

I wish I could say it in a clever clean way…..but I cannot….

This prick is a screaming racist asshole!  And a leader in the GOP from South Carolina (do you expect more from a white bastard from the South)…….

We need citizens like him as much as we need another ass to wipe.  This country cannot move forward as long as we have these racist pigs amongst us……..

“Savages”?  “Infested”?

It is “Christians” like this that give their religious beliefs so much grief.  This douche bag is NO better than the assholes in ISIS that are embarrassing Islam.

I live in Mississippi and I have always said that the state motto ought to be “Welcome to Mississippi…set your watches back 150 years”.

Yes, even today there is still a massive amount of bigotry in the state….in the 70’s I thought that they state might move beyond the racism it is noted for…..but I was sadly mistaken.

‘Oppressed Becomes The Oppressor’ | Ace News Room 2014

An op-ed I wrote a couple years ago and was submitted to Ace News Room 2014…..they picked it up and I thank them for that…..

Israel and the West Bank are seeing up ticks in violence and most of it is race based……and nowhere does it make news news unless it is an Israeli that is attacked by a Palestinian…..and then it becomes a blow against democracy.

The problem is there is NO one with half a brain that considers Israel a democracy…..it is s a slogan that has NO basis in reality.

Please tell me what you think…..

Are Cameras Really The Answer?

There have been numerous incidents where the police have shot and killed unarmed suspects…..many in this country are looking for an answer to this problem….

As usual the country is looking for a quick fix….instead of facing reality….sad to say that a simplistic approach may not be the best approach……..and there you have the “simple” answer…..make the cops wear body cameras…..this will force the cops to re-think their approach to a dangerous situation…….

Personally, I do not think that this is the sole answer….just the simplest one to implement…..and it seems that others feel the way I do….

Can body cameras really curb police abuse? Experts aren’t so sure.

Will There Be An Ebola Blowback?

The US is taking a moment for a deserved long breath.

Now that the fear of Ebola is lessening with each cured person there is the possibility that there could be another form of fear that will take hold.  The fear of people!  Especially if they are from West Africa or are thought to be from that region.

Think back to the days and weeks after the horrendous attacks on 9/11……..there were many attacks on people of the Muslim religion and even some that were attacked because they may have appeared to be Arabic or Middle Eastern.  There were beatings and even a death of two because of the person’s appearance.

Yep, a form of racial profiling.

Now that the US has moved to limit the areas where people can enter the US to 5 airports, most on the east coast and the central states…….and the Right wing wanting all flights from Africa prevented from landing in the US…..this could set up a scenario of panic and distrust..

God forbid that another outbreak (that is a media term) should show its ugly face….an even uglier face will be that of the people in this society.  The radical Right will immediately start looking for a scapegoat and that will be anyone that appears to be from Africa…. not necessarily West Africa….just anyone that appears to be one of the people that brought the disease to our shores.

Since the death of Mr. Duncan there has already been a minor backlash rumblings against Africans, especially in the Dallas, Texas area.

Then in Rome the fear strikes……..

A woman from Guinea has reportedly been attacked by angry bus passengers who told her she was infected by Ebola and had to get off, according to media reports.

The 26-year-old was allegedly beaten by a group of teenagers after they accused her of having the deadly virus.

 “They told me that I had Ebola and that I had to get off the bus,” said Fataomata Sompare, who has been living in Italy for four years.
How long will it be, if the Ebola outbreak continues, that this could become a norm instead of an isolated occurrence?

We Americans have to seem to always blame others for the problems the country endues….we blame the Chinese back in the 1800’s…..we blamed the Irish in the early 1900’s………we blame the Japanese-Americans for Pearl Harbor, we blamed, as I have pointed out, Arab-Americans for 9/11, thanks to Al-Qaeda Americans are suspicious of every Mosque and now with the Ebola on a tear it is only a matter of time before we blame African-Americans, especially first generation,  for the problems the disease is causing..

With Americans propensity for hate how long will not be before we go in search of a scapegoat?  An Ebola scapegoat.

We as a nation are still dealing with bigotry and racism…..for that I found this article that is very good read…..if you are interested in the subject then I suggest that you check out this piece……it is so sad that we are still dealing with this as a major issue…….you would think we could move past that by now…..
