Our 250th birthday has come and gone…the beer is gone, the grill is cooled and the fireworks have mercifully been used up and now it is time for me to get back to normal posting.

As usual Donny could not pass up a chance to be the center of attention on this day….and as usual he made a speech (go figure)….

They appeared before flags that symbolized some of the most significant and challenging moments in American history, from the one that was draped over Abraham Lincoln’s casket to the one that flew on the plane piloted by the Wright Brothers.

Yet Trump also leaned into partisan territory in his Independence Day address: He stumped again for the SAVE America Act, an elections bill that’s encountering challenges even from Trump’s fellow Republicans in Congress. He highlighted his support for the Second Amendment and revived denunciations of communism, which are becoming an increasingly central part of Trump’s message ahead of the November midterms. The speech capped a holiday that Trump has gone to great lengths to shape to his own tastes. He was introduced by two musical performers who often appear at his trademark rallies, including Lee Greenwood, who performed “God Bless the USA.”

“We will always be on top,” Trump said. “We will never let our country fall. We will always be the best.” Trump didn’t talk about himself as much as he does during his normal rally speeches. Still, he found time to include a joke about seeking a third presidential term and about World War II’s “greatest generation.” “They are the greatest generation,” Trump said. “I hate to admit that, but they are.”

An d as usual the speech was a rally and not one to celebrate the 250 years of American history….all in all…..pathetic.

A large stretch of the National Mall in Washington DC is currently full of a bunch of large, white tents. There’s a white 150-foot Ferris wheel on Seventh Street, opposite a large arch. Over on 14th Street, there’s a big, empty stage.

The Trump administration calls it the Great American State Fair, but it looks like the shoddiest amusement park. A trashy rebranding of the American experiment for dim-witted suckers. This is Trumpland: The Experience. One ride, a bunch of cheap flags, and a lot of tan lines.

All the white tent exteriors are covered in a combination of vinyl tarp with wood and plaster columns. The tarps have fake, painted windows. Some of the plaster corners are already popping out, and are hastily held together with industrial adhesives and tape. Faux columns evoke the look of a permanent marble structure. The whole thing is a less than subtle message that these structures are intended to be replicas of Trump’s proposed ballroom. A wink and a nudge for rubes gullible enough to be tricked into forking over billions in tax dollars so Trump can build memorials to himself.

Dan Patrick, the chairman of the commission; Vice Chairman Ben Carson; and other members via the DOJ on Friday, is expected to guide future administration policy after a yearlong review of alleged religious discrimination affecting U.S. citizens across education, healthcare, the military, and the workplace.

The new Trump passport is here, and somehow it manages to be stranger than the headline suggests. On Friday, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to unveil a limited edition “Patriot Passport” built for the country’s 250th anniversary, and the design drops his own portrait inside the booklet. He is shown standing over the Resolute Desk with his fists planted on the table, the text of the Declaration of Independence floating behind him, and his signature printed in gold. The opposite page features the famous painting of the Founding Fathers signing the Declaration. Across the bottom it reads “United States of America 250.”

That alone would have been enough to set the internet off. But Trump added a caption that turned the whole thing into a punchline. “The U.S.A.’s New Passport, which says, ‘Welcome, but be good!’” he wrote.

Here is where the new Trump passport stops making sense. A passport is not a welcome mat. It is the document a United States citizen carries when they are leaving the country. You show it to get back in, yes, but its entire purpose is international travel by Americans heading out into the world. Nobody is handed a US passport at the border on the way in. So stamping “welcome, but be good” on the one federal document designed for citizens going abroad is backward on its face. Who exactly is being welcomed? The American flying to Paris? The grandmother visiting family in Lagos? They already live here.

MAGA Texas will force children into bible studies….

Texas is poised to make the Bible required reading for five million public school students.

The Texas State Board of Education is expected to vote Friday to approve legislation to scrap teaching about “World Cultures” and make Bible stories and verses a permanent part of the K-12 curriculum—a blatant violation of the separation between church and state.

Critics of the measure argue that the changes risk alienating children from other religious or nonreligious backgrounds and infringe on the ability of parents to guide their children’s moral and religious education, CNN reported.

If the proposed reading list is approved, primary school-aged students would be taught stories like Noah’s Ark, David and Goliath, and Daniel in the Lion’s Den. Middle school students would study the Shepherd Psalm from the Book of Psalms, as well as the religious writings of poets like Langston Hughes and Robert Frost. High schoolers would read from the second chapter of Genesis, detailing the creation of Adam and Eve—a story that exists across multiple religions but in vastly different forms.
