But judging by the reaction of the corporate media, you’d think the armageddon was at hand after the AIPAC-funded candidates were walloped by Democratic Socialists opposed to the genocide in Gaza and openly embracing a working-class agenda.
Corporate-friendly elites say this will cost Democrats the midterm elections. They complain that Mamdani wasn’t supposed to “meddle” in congressional races. They insist that swing voters will never vote for a party that supports Medicare for All and raising taxes on billionaires and trillionaires.
I say GREAT! About time we have some Dems with a spine ….we need many more.

I have always enjoyed your posts. You speak from the heart rather than from the arse like many scaremongers are doing now. Social Democrats can save the Country and a bew voice nay be what you need there. It certainly seems to have the benefit to people in mind. The Commie scare hasn’t really worked since the 50’s and Trump has the nerve to try it again despite his friendship with Russia.

Last week, I opined in a comment here that the Democratic Party leadership – if forced to choose – would take sides with a fascist like Trump against progressives/democratic socialists within their own party. Well, Fetterman’s McCarthyist rant against “the dirtbag left” certainly supports my point.
Now is the time for us progressives and social democrats (who are definitively not communists because we don’t believe that the state should own all personal property including land, nor do we believe in totalitarianism) to realize some disturbing realities:
1) That the Republican Party has gone full fascist.
2) That the Democratic Party establishment has gone fully corporatist.
3) That the Dems’ support of social liberalism is conditional upon #2.
4) That both parties are ideologically hostile to democracy and to working people.
5) That for us to have real political representation, we must either start our own political party or kick the traitors like Fetterman out.

What really gets me even more angry than I already am with the main stream Dems is that they keep refusing to admit that they’ve lost touch with the grass roots members of their own party. One would think that the wins by more progressive candidates would thrill them and they’d start to shift the whole party in the right direction. Instead they’re digging in their heels and are starting to adopt the same false, paranoid and bizarre rhetoric as the far right extremists.

The issue is that the people who are opposed to these more progressive candidates don’t have any factual information to counter these progressive policies. Actually there is significant data to indicate that the economy and people in general are usually better off under more progressive (i.e. ‘liberal’) administrations. So since they don’t have any facts to back them up, all they can do is resort to personal insults. So all they can do is yell insults like communist, socialists, pedophiles, demons, possessed by satan, etc.

I find it fascinating that the conservatives are calling progressive, liberal candidates “socialists”. This is ironic considering that their dear demented leader is, by definition, a socialist.
Socialism is defined as, simplistically speaking, the government owning what are normally privately held resources and production facilities. Since taking office Trump has pushed the US government into buying stakes in Westinghouse, IBM, Intel, Lithium Americas, Rigitti Computing, D-Wave, Trilogy Metals and so many others I’d have to go actually look them all up. So Trump is, by definition, literally a socialist.
